The Commemoration of the Last Supper begins at 7:30 p.m. This beautiful service ends with the stripping of the
altar and Our Lord is moved to a repository at the side altar in remembrance of his own Agony in the Garden. The
church will be open and parishioners are invited to stay and pray with Our Lord knowing what he will be suffering
on Good Friday. After this Mass, the Chapel will be closed until after the Holy Saturday Mass.
Good Friday—there is no Mass offered on Good Friday. We will begin with Morning Prayer at 9:00 a.m. followed
by the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the beginning of the novena to the Divine Mercy which concludes on the
Sunday after Easter—also called Divine Mercy Sunday.
Tre Ore—which is Latin for Three Hours will be prayed from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come
and pray at this time.
The Feast of the Passion of Our Lord will begin at 2:30 p.m. and includes the reading of the Passion, the Solemn
Intercessions, the veneration of the Cross, and the reception of Holy Communion.
Holy Saturday—There is NO 4:30 p.m. Mass Today!!!
The Vigil Service which includes the Blessing of the Fire and Water as well as Baptisms and Confirmations will begin
at 8:45 p.m. This most holy feast is to begin after dark. Please try to make the Triduum-the feast of Holy Thursday,
Good Friday, and Holy Saturday—as a part of your Lenten observance. Check out the insert in this week’s bulletin!

Easter Egg Hunt—We will celebrate our third Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 27, at 8:30 a.m.—the
regular CCD time. Coffee and donuts will be served in the parish hall as the eggs are being “hidden.” If

Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy are being prayed before the weekend Masses and are started 30
minutes before Mass begins. December 8 began Pope Francis’s “Year of Mercy.” Bishop John has
designated four churches/missions as places of pilgrimage in our Diocese. They are the Cathedral of
Christ the King in Lexington, St. Francis De Sales in White Sulphur, St. Francis of Assisi in Pikeville,
and Our Lady of Mt. Vernon in Mt. Vernon.
Special Thanks to the folks who came to help with the church cleaning on Monday—Kathy
Montgomery, Debbie Owen, and Joan Risen and our faithful volunteer John Lee. During Holy Week is
the only time when the Chapel can be cleaned. Once the chapel closes on Thursday night, the crew starts
by moving furniture so the carpet cleaners can get started on Friday morning. The carpet dries on Friday,
and then the cleaning crew comes in on Saturday morning to do a major clean and put-back so the chapel
will be ready on Saturday night. The church also receives many changes in altar linens and red and white
for all the Holy Week services as well as the Easter flowers come in. The lawn and the flower gardens
are also worked on. Many hands work together to make our church beautiful in praise to God! God bless
our parishioners!
An After Easter Treat is Coming to St. Luke’s! You are invited to attend a screening of the
film "The Original Image of Divine Mercy" after the 4:30 Mass on Saturday, April 9, in the
parish hall. The Original Image of Divine Mercy is a fascinating documentary that traces the
improbable journey through time of the original painting of Divine Mercy – the only rendition
of the Divine Mercy painting that Saint Faustina ever saw during her short life. The film
includes intriguing interviews with key witnesses, as well as Bishop Robert Barron, Harry
Connick Jr., Jim Gaffigan, George Weigel, Immaculée Ilibagiza and many others.

CCD/DTS Classes and Times Grades 1-6 will meet in the parish hall from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Grades 7-8 after the ten o’clock Mass from 11:30 to 12:30. Pre-school and Kindergarten meet during
the ten o’clock Mass. DTS meets from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. usually two times a month.
FAST & ABSTINENCE--Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for
Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 60. When
fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full

Mercy Moments - Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, Dec. 8, 2015 to Nov. 20, 2016.
Through His revelations to St. Faustina, Jesus has given us unambiguous insights into His passion for
showing His mercy to all of the faithful. In today’s excerpt, we are told of the power of trust in the
Chaplet of Divine Mercy in securing His mercy at the hour of one’s death:
[St. Faustina] heard these words: At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that
will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person the pardon is the same. When this
chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person…the very depths of My tender mercy are moved
for the sake of the Sorrowful Passion of My Son. (Diary, 811)
Today the Lord said to me, I have opened my heart as a living fountain of mercy… Let them approach this sea
of mercy with great trust… Whoever places his trust in My mercy will be filled with My divine peace at the
hour of death. (Diary, 1520)
My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you… When hardened sinners say it, I
will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one… When they say this chaplet
in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but

needs-based scholarship at Sts. Peter & Paul Regional Catholic School. The Eagles Wings scholarship
will provide financial assistance to four new students who qualify and are chosen. Eligibility
requirements include a minimum of 75% financial need as shown through a confidential third-party,
FACTS. Additional criteria include grades, attendance, achievement testing and other items for review.

Sacrament of Reconciliation—Confessions are heard on
Saturday from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. and on Sunday 20 minutes
before each Mass. Confessions may also be heard upon
request. Communal Penance Services are announced in the
bulletin.
Sacrament of Baptism—Parents must be registered, active
members of St. Luke for two months before their child can
be Baptized. They must also attend instructions prior to

CRS—Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Program—Honduras
 Nearly 65% of Hondurans—more than 5 million people—live on less than $2 a day. In
response, CRS Honduras is working on projects ranging from agriculture to education.
 The Food for Education project benefits 53,863 children enrolled in 1,047 pre-primary and
primary schools. The project improves literacy, attendance, retention and attentiveness.
 By providing regular meals at school, students are more likely to go to school—and have
the energy to learn. For many students, this may be the best—and only—meal they
receive all day.
 The project supplies basic educational materials, trains teachers to better support
students and provides transportation so students can get to school.
 The project is improving the school with better classrooms, restrooms and safer
environments. School gardens are being built to teach students about the importance of
healthy food.

Calvary Cemetery News - Calvary Cemetery is located at 874 West Main Street, Lexington,

 It's almost Spring and a great time to consider taking advantage of our Diocesan Cemetery's Special Care or Annual Flower
Services. Now Taking Orders through April 1. Every year, Calvary plants over 4,000 red, white, and pink begonias. Contact
the office for more information on these two programs. Placement of live flowers is allowed any time. Artificial
decorations may be placed November 1 to March 1 only. To keep the Cemetery's appearance uniform and in keeping with
the existing policy, the Cemetery will begin the process of removing all remaining artificial decorations on March 2.

Opportunities for Life Volunteers Needed--Opportunities for Life, the Kentucky Catholic Bishop’s life-affirming
ministry to women and families dealing with untimely pregnancies, is welcoming new volunteers. OFL will be
offering training workshops in your diocese. OFL volunteers offer hope, compassion, options counseling and
resources to callers who find the courage to seek help. Volunteers are needed to staff the 24 hour helpline from their
