Pennoweth Weekly Summer Term - Week 38 Website www.pennoweth.cornwall.sch.uk Friday 14th July 2016 I am pleased to inform you that the transition week went well. The children met with their new teachers and support staff, and took part in a range of activities to get to know their new classmates, as well as set out class expectations. We look forward to September now. I met with the PTA last Friday and we talked through the success of the PTA Summer Fair. They raised a staggering £1000 in what amounted to less than 2 hours of spending. The preparation and organisation that went into the event was like a military operation before, during and after and I would like to express my thanks to the whole team for all their time and energy leading up to and during the fair. The PTA are keen to raise funds for something that will have a lasting impact on the work of the school and would like to raise enough money to purchase new staging and new lighting for performances in the hall. This is an excellent target because our children are ready for that creative challenge now and it is an area that the school needs to develop next. We estimate the total cost of the staging will be in the region of £1800 and the lighting and safety wall mounted safety bars will be in the region of £3500. We are yet to get official quotes but that will be a task for the early part of the new term. Raising money for those 'luxury items' is, of course, very important but, of equal and possibly more importance is the fact that the PTA brings together the school community and helps break down barriers between home and school. The atmosphere at the Summer Fair was one of laughter, fun, conversations with people you might never have spoken to before, friendship and working together towards a common goal. It is about the community coming together for the benefit of our children and this year’s fair did all of that very successfully indeed. A huge thank you to the whole team.
