Term 2
A note from the principal…..
As Term 2 draws to a close it gives us all an
opportunity to reflect on a great two terms.
There has been great teaching and learning,
excursions and events. Students should be proud
of their achievements and focus on the progress
they have made and strive to continue to improve.
June 2015
 Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and
fairly
 Wear the school uniform
 Attend school every day
 Not be violent
 Not bully, harass, intimidate or
discriminate against anyone
Parent/teacher interviews
I would like to thank parents and carers for their
attendance at our parent/teacher interviews.
There has been an increase in the number of
parents and carers attending these meetings
which is fantastic.
The wellbeing of all students is of the upmost
importance. We ensure all students access a high
quality education that includes developing a social
conscience and learning to respect each other.
If you were unable to attend a meeting with your
child’s teacher you can arrange an appointment
directly with the teacher next term. A meeting is a
great way to discuss your child’s progress and ask
questions.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish
everyone a safe holiday.
Holidays
I look forward to another exciting term.
Mrs Elizabeth Rump
Behaviour Code for Students

members
 Follow school and class rules and follow
the directions of their teachers
 Strive for the highest standards of
learning
 Show courtesy to all students, teachers
and community members

Kindergarten
Healthy Breakfast
Research suggests that breakfast is the most important
meal of the day but 1 in 4 children in Australia skip
breakfast. Children who eat a healthy breakfast before
arriving at school are far more likely to engage in
learning, be more settled, alert and brain active in the
classroom. We encourage all of our kindergartens to
ensure they eat well before coming to school. Find out
more at https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/parentscarers/healthy-eating-and-drinking/importance-ofbreakfast.aspx
A Good Sleep on school Nights
Kindergarten students need a good sleep each night to
be able to cope with the challenges of school. They
need to have lots of energy for trying new activities,
making friends, listening, following instructions and
being confident learners. A good sleep will help your
child
 Remember what they learn
 Pay attention and concentrate
 Solve problems and think of new ideas
 Play sensibly
Kindergarten classes have been busy bees this term.
They have developed amazing oral language skills and
most are now able to create a simple text with
assistance. They are also developing reading skills
and we cannot over emphasize the importance of
reading during the school holidays. In Mathematics
they are working in small focused groups and
developing their understanding of number concepts.
Next term students will be involved in lessons about
Built and Natural Environments, Child Protection and
will continue their learning in English and Mathematics.
Last Friday, Regents Park Public School held a Pyjama
Day. Our kindergartens looked adorable wearing their
PJ’S. They had a lovely morning and had a chance to
hold their teddies whilst watching a movie. A welldeserved break after working so hard this term!
June 2015
Stage One students have had a very busy term.
They have worked extremely hard in Literacy,
developing strategies to become expressive,
fluent readers and passionate, creative writers. In
Numeracy they are working towards flexibly
describing and using a variety of strategies to
solve numbers problems.
We encourage you to assist your child at home by
ensuring they read on a daily basis, talking about
books together and encouraging your child to
write as often as possible.
In Science, students have been learning about our
Living World and have looked at the life cycles of
different living things. They also enjoyed planting
beans and watching and recording the changes in
their growth. As a culmination to this unit the
students had a wonderful day at the Royal Botanic
Gardens where they experienced some hands-on
activities around Minibeasts led by the education
staff at the gardens. The students loved the trip
into the city on the bendibus and particularly
enjoyed walking around the beautiful, lush
gardens and ponds.
The teachers would like to thank parents for
allowing students to attend planned excursions.
They provide invaluable experiences which help
support their learning and provide for rich talking
and writing opportunities afterwards.
We would also like to thank the parents who took
the opportunity to attend the Parent-Teacher
interviews last week. These interviews are an
important way of discussing students’ progress.
We wish you all a happy and safe holiday.

Stage 2 News
Well would you look at that, HALF the year is gone!
Half! Stage 2 have been working so hard at school that
the year has just flown right by, and as teachers and
caregivers we couldn’t be more proud of them and their
efforts!
In English, our new writing groups, where we are all
working in small groups with a teacher at our different
ability levels, have been incredibly successful in
helping each of us improve in writing. Each day we
take part in 30 minutes of guided writing. We have
been focusing on the writing process which is to plan,
construct, review, edit, publish, and then present. We
have begun using this process to write informative texts
and have been having great fun in these smaller
groups.
In Mathematics, we are working on measuring lengths
and areas. We had so much fun getting into the
playground with the chalk and marking lengths on the
basketball court. Ask us to show how we convert
between, millimetres, centimetres and metres! We
would love to show you. Next term we are focusing on
Multiplication and Division, it would be a great help if
our families would help us with learning our times
tables at home.
In the Creative Arts we have enjoyed exploring
and learning about different approaches to art. We
have really enjoyed experimenting with paint,
brush strokes and colour; as well as learning
3

about famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh and
Claude Monet.

The volunteer who pretended to be border
security was scary. She took many of our things.
Once we passed her we stayed in another country
for a long time. We also discussed what it is like to
be in a foreign land. We realised that having no
privacy, no common language, no bathroom, no
food and no job or money was a hard life.
Abdullah
Each Friday, Stage Two classes take part in PE
activities. On these days it is important we wear
our sports uniform, bring a hat and water bottle so
we are prepared for the activities. We have
enjoyed learning hockey and are now beginning to
work on basketball and game strategy skills.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to speak to us.
Kind regards,
Stage 2 Teachers.
We pretended to get on a boat that was heading
to Christmas Island. We listened to a true story in
the dark room. Finally we were rescued and
hoped to all get a Visa.
It was an interesting and valuable excursion. We
hope all asylum seekers can find a safe country to
live in peace.
Stage 3 Joint Recount by 4/5A
Stage 3 Excursion to Refugee Camp
On Thursday June 18 2015, 4/5A, 5/6M and 5/6W
went on an excursion to a Refugee camp at
Auburn. We went by private bus. 4/5A were split
into 2 groups. The first group left with 5/6W on the
first bus. The other half went with 5/6M on the
second bus.
When we got to our destination we were given a
lanyard and given a new identity. We had to be
that new identity for the whole day! The volunteer
was a refugee and showed us around. We had to
write down 5 things we had to take with us if we
were to flee our country or home in the middle of
the night. It was hard to choose five things in a
very short time.

DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY!!!!!
On Friday 22nd May 2015 a talented group of
children represented Regents Park Public School
at the District Cross Country Carnival. It was held
at Flinders Slopes, Mirambeena Regional Park. It
was a wonderful day of exciting races and our
student behaviour was fantastic! Keep it up
