PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents
Term 3 is a very busy term and I would like to outline some important events.
Our Stage 3 students were all on time yesterday for their trip to Canberra and arrived back
safely late last night. Thanks to all the parents and students for their prompt arrival and
excellent behaviour on the day. A special thank you to the teachers, Mrs Azzopardi, Mr
Robberds and Miss Rameh who offered to organise and accompany the students on this
invaluable trip. Some parents may not realise that teachers do not get paid anything extra
for working outside school hours. We are extremely lucky to have such dedicated teachers
who always go above and beyond their call of duty to provide the best possible well-rounded
education for your children.
Our School Leaders, Mrs Manning, Mrs Morris, Mrs Azzopardi and Mrs Ibrahim will be
attending a professional learning session on strategies for engaging and motivating students,
as part of our commitment to the Bankstown Leadership Group. I will also be attending a
workshop on the new Learning Management and Business Reform (LMBR) that will commence
in Term 4 for all NSW schools.
Our White Ribbon Respect Group will be performing at Bankstown Centro on centre stage
outside Kmart on Thursday 4th August at 6pm. These students have composed the lyrics to
the rap that they will perform. They have been working with two representatives from
Bankstown Youth Development every Monday for the last term. We have seen an
improvement in the maturity and attitudes of the boys and know they will make us very
proud on the night. If you are able to make it, please come and support the school.
We are safe, respectful learners.
This week is Education Week however we will be celebrating Education Week with Book Week
in Week 6. We will be holding a Book Character Parade on Wednesday 24th August, Parent
Workshops and Open Classrooms on Thursday 25th from 9am-11.00am. The School will also
be hosting a Book Fair during Week 6. You and your child will be given the opportunity to
purchase books and various other merchandise on that day. More information will be sent out
closer to the day.
There will be a parent information meeting on Thursday 4th August which will run until
approximately 10.30am. Please see attached note below.
If you have any concerns or suggestions regarding your child’s social, emotional or
educational wellbeing please do not hesitate to contact the school to make an appointment to
discuss these with your class teacher, stage leader, or myself.

NUTRITION NEWS
Crunch&Sip
It is great to see an overwhelming number of students in K-6 bringing their Crunch& Sip to school each day.
Term 3 class competitions have started this week. The class with an outstanding number of Crunch& Sip
each day will participate in a fun and healthy food experiment.
Please provide your child with a fruit or vegetable snack break along with a bottle of water every day. Our
focus at school is to create and provide healthy eating and learning experiences.
Breakfast is an excellent occasion to talk to children about healthy eating. By providing opportunities for
children to develop good eating habits at home, the school and home can work together to create healthier
and happier children.
Breakfast
Mornings can be a busy time but starting the day right is important. A healthy breakfast
can help your child learn and concentrate better throughout the day, reduce unhealthy
snacking and provide nutrients for healthy growth and development.
Try these top tips for encouraging your kids to eat breakfast everyday:
-
wake your child up in plenty of time for school
agree to a few healthy breakfast options that kids can choose from
eat breakfast with your kids
get ready for the morning by putting out plates, bowls and cutlery the night before
toast, cereal, fruit and yoghurt are quick and easy ideas

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
Physical activity is also great for helping your child to be happy and well in other areas of life.
For example, active children are more likely to:






be confident and feel like they belong
be happy and relaxed
sleep well
concentrate better at school
get along with others and make friends easily
share, take turns and cooperate.

LIBRARY NEWS
Don’t forget that on Wednesday 24th of August we will hold our annual Book Parade. Students
are invited to dress up as a book character and take part in a small parade. Parents are
welcome to attend the parade and also visit our ‘Carnival Books’ fair where there will be well
priced books and stationary items available for purchase. Students will be able to view the
books during the days before the book fair.
SPORTS NEWS
On Tuesday 19th July, our Athletics Carnival was held under beautiful blue skies and
sunshine. Congratulations to all students on their performance and a huge thank you to the
teachers for their assistance on the day. It is a huge day to organise and would not be
possible without the dedication of the staff at Wattawa. Thank you.
The District Carnival is on Tuesday 23rd August. Permission notes for the students that have
been selected to represent our school will be sent home soon.
