Hello Everyone,
Well summer time is upon us as are the tornadoes. With summer riding comes some
challenges especially if you are an older rider with thyroid problems. Why does this
matter? Well if your thyroid is not working properly, your body has problems with cooling.
Let’s analyze this a little further. First wear all the gear all the time. Long pants, long
shirts, gloves, heavy boots, and a helmet on the head. You expel most of your body heat
through your skin and especially your head. If this heat cannot escape it builds within
the body. People with thyroid problems have a thermostat problem. Their body’s thermostat does not work as efficiently as other peoples. So the heat builds up in their bodies very quickly making them more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
So if you are mature, ride a bike/trike and have a thyroid problem, pay very strict attention to your hydration and cooling methods. Drink lots of WATER. If you can, purchase a cooling suit or a cool vest. Because of my thyroid problems and previous experiences with heat exhaustion, I wear a cool vest when riding in hot weather. It really
helps. I must stop about every hour and rehydrate and soak my vest. I also use this vest
when I am out working in the yard. It is a blessing!!!
So enjoy riding during the nice summer days, but stay aware of your body temperature.

Smitty for all your work getting BOOM ready to
meet his public.
The scrapbook is coming along nicely. Next
meeting is June 10 th at 10 am at Judy’s house.

Mark has been on vacation visiting his family in Florida. So I will take a minute to remind all of you of the advice given to us by Ray Jones of Shawnee Honda at our recent
monthly gathering.
CHANGE YOUR FLUIDS REGULARLY!!!!!!!
This includes not only the oil but the brake and hydraulic fluids.
Oil every 3000 to 5000 miles
Brake and hydraulics every 2 years or 12, 000 miles
These small maintenance tasks will keep your bike or trike running smoothly and keep
your bike from looking like a Harley— stuck on the side of the road or traveling on a
trailer. GO GOLDWINGS!!!

I have a 2002 Goldwing 1800 cc with 16,000 very pampered miles. The trike has a
2012 Motor-Trike conversion. The conversion was done at Shawnee Honda. Since the
conversion, the trike has only been driven approximately 2500 miles.
The trike has independent suspension and disc brakes. In addition, it has over $1,500
worth of add-ons including an oversized windshield, Honda highway pegs, passenger
armrests, luggage rack, I-pod jack and charger, intercoms and a brand new cover.
This machine is ready to ride at 16,600 miles. New air filter, new n.g.k 6 each plugs,
new oil and filter.
