Interconnection:
what you need
to know
T
he following rebate changes will
go into effect on January 1, 2016 for
residential customers:
A
re you interested in producing and
using your own energy? It all
starts with interconnection. You need to
understand what interconnection is and
what you need to do to make it happen.
When we talk about interconnection,
we’re referring to adding a wind turbine
or solar photovoltaic system to your
home or business and connecting it
to our distribution system. The State
of Iowa and the Iowa Utilities Board
(IUB) have rules for completing the
interconnection process to ensure that
your interconnection is done safely.
The State of Iowa requires that you
notify Alliant Energy, or your electric
utility, of plans to build, install and operate
any customer-owned generation that will
be connected to our system. This must
be done in writing at least 30 days before
construction starts.
To start the notification process or
learn more about interconnection, call
Alliant Energy’s Renewable Hotline at
1-800-972-5325 or visit alliantenergy.com/
sellmypower.

We’re using our Energy for Good!
B
eing good neighbors is a big part of who we are at Alliant Energy.
Our employees take pride in building our communities, putting their hands, feet
and minds to work. Our employees recorded more than 96,700 volunteer hours in 2014.
That’s labor valued at more than $2 million!
¡O
ur people partner with worthy
organizations. They contribute to
our United Way giving campaigns,
providing more than $1.28 million when
combined with gifts from the Alliant
Energy Foundation.
¡O
ur Drive Out Hunger golf event, which
benefits nine food banks, partnered
with businesses to raise more than
$379,000 this year. The $2.2 million
that Drive Out Hunger has raised since
2007 equals more than 9 million meals
to food-insecure people across our
regions.
¡T
hrough the Alliant Energy Foundation,
we made $183,000 in 2014 scholarship
awards. We support programs that
mentor and tutor thousands of
students, and we made more than
$127,000 in 2014 grants to develop
workers.
¡W
e supported more than 560 of our
communities through grants last year.
Our matching gifts program generated
over $1 million for nonprofits making a
real difference.
The total 2014 impact of giving from
our foundation, company, employees and
retirees topped $8.4 million. Why do we
do it? Because we are all stronger when
Alliant Energy Gives Back.
Together, we help
your neighbors in need
W
e care about helping local families who are
struggling to keep pace with their utility
bills. That’s why we’ve organized the Hometown
Care Energy Fund. Donations go directly to
neighbors in need, with funds administered by
local community action programs.
Last year, Alliant Energy customers, employees
and retirees gave more than $250,000, and Alliant
Energy shareowners contributed $2 million.
Please join us in showing your hometown values
again this year. You can contribute by calling

Lower natural
gas prices heading
our way
T
his winter, we’re expecting to see
some of the lowest natural gas
prices in at least 15 years. The price
of natural gas accounts for about
60% of your gas bill, so if weather is
normal, your heating bill could be as
much as 10% lower this winter.
Of course, if this winter is colder
than normal, and your usage is higher
than last year, your bills may also be
higher.
Gas prices don’t have an impact
on Alliant Energy, because we don’t
make or lose money on the natural
gas itself. Our costs are covered in
the charges for the
pipes and meters
that deliver gas to
you.
However, we
work hard on your
behalf to keep these
costs down. We are
taking advantage
of current market
conditions to
lock in low prices
for customers
throughout this
year and into future
heating seasons.
Don’t want to depend on natural
gas prices to lower your bill? A
great way to make your home more
comfortable and save
money on your heating
bill is by investing
in insulation and air
sealing, or a new
furnace. And if you
qualify for rebates, these
improvements may be even
more cost-effective. Learn more
