The Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – September 18, 2016
NEXT WEEKS GOSPEL LUKE 16:19-31
St. Teresa of Calcutta
On Sunday, September 4, 2016, Pope
Francis officially bestowed the title
of Saint to Mother Teresa at the
canonization ceremony at St Peter’s
Square in Vatican City.
Jesus said to the Pharisees: “There was a rich man who
dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined
sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor
man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would
gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the
rich man's table. Dogs even used to come and lick his
sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by
angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died
and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was
in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off
and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, 'Father
Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip
of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am
suffering torment in these flames.' Abraham replied,
‘My child, remember that you received what was good
during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received
what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas
you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a
great chasm is established to prevent anyone from
crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or
from your side to ours.’ He said, ‘Then I beg you, father,
send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers,
so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this
place of torment.' But Abraham replied, ‘They have
Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’
He said, ‘Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from
the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Then Abraham
said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise
from the dead.’”

Associate Pastor’s Letter
My Dear Parishioners,
Today’s Gospel story
tells us about the
crooked
but
resourceful manager and challenges us to
use our blessings – time, talent, health and
wealth – wisely and justly so that they will
serve for our good in eternity. We use our
earthly wealth wisely when we spend it for
our own needs in moderation and when we
love and help the needy around us, for those
are the purposes for which he has entrusted
all these things to us.
The manager in Jesus’ story used all his
resources to secure his future. We must be
no less resourceful. We are so blessed that
we have at our disposal the Holy Mass and
Sacraments as sources of Divine Grace, the
Holy Bible as the Word of God for daily
meditation and practice, and the teaching
authority of the Spirit-guided Church to
direct us in our Christian life. We need to
use these resources in such a way that it will
be said of us, “and the Master commended
them because they acted so prudently”.
We insure our homes against fire, storms,
flood and thieves and insure our lives by
taking life insurance and car insurance. In
the same way, let us insure ourselves for the
one thing that most certainly will happen;
namely, our meeting God to give Him an
account of our lives. Let us all remember
the blessings God has given and share our
blessings with others with joyful hearts.
Let us pray for our Pastor Fr. Mike Lydon,
who is on his annual vacation that he has a
relaxing and enjoyable time and come back
to us with good health and a refreshed mind.
God bless you,
Father George

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (adapted for youth)
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who may be hearing the whisper of God’s
call to Catholicism? The RCIA is a beautiful process … and a journey
worth taking! Don’t get caught up in the terminology, but share this
explanation of the process with anyone who may be interested … have
them reach out to us … with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we will do the rest!
RCI(A) – and adapted for Youth:
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is for unbaptized adults, adults baptized another
Christian faith (or those baptized Catholic, with no subsequent catechesis or sacraments) AND adapted for youth older than 7 who are not baptized and/or older Catholic children who
are baptized, but have not been catechized (instructed) or received First Eucharist.
Catechumens (those not yet baptized) are sent forth from the Mass following Gospel / Homily
for a celebration of weekend readings, breaking open the Word of God. Sponsors / Parents /
Spouses remain in full Mass participation.
Separate weekly catechetical (instructional) sessions are offered (age appropriate classroom
break outs). Sponsor / Parent / Family participation is vital to this process - and will be highly
encouraged (along with family mentors from within the parish community). Contact the parish
office for more information.
ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN RCIA ARE ASKED TO MEET IN THE PARISH HALL
FOLLOWING 8:30AM MASS THIS SUNDAY 9/18.

Today’s Gospel (Luke 16: 1-13) reminds us how important it is to
care for others. Saint Teresa of Kolkata (aka Calcutta) was a living
reminder of that. Mother Teresa was canonized a saint Sunday,
September 4th. Todays’ message was her message. Using the Works
of Mercy as our guide, may it be OUR message as well! How will
your family apply these “works” in the week ahead?
