Open Up SEARCH - In Search of the Lord`s Way
The SEARCH Light News & Information from In Search of the Lord’s Way Ministry From Friend to Friend by Phil Sanders In spite of my illnesses, I have spoken in twelve states so far this year. I am grateful for every opportunity to share the gospel and to share the story of In SEARCH of the Lord’s way. Meeting viewers across the country is one of my greatest delights. God continues to bless us richly and to open doors for the word across the country. We rejoiced May 10-11 to get to visit with Don Blackwell and Mark Teske of GBN, Branyon May of World Video Bible School, Paul Sain, Al and June Franks, Garland Elkins, Keith Mosher, and Richard Rutledge and Ryan Smithey of Gospel Radio Network. Each contributed to a marvelous meeting for people involved in media ministry. Michael Harrod of Rustburg, VA, called recently looking for a church of Christ where he could attend and be baptized. Michael has been studying with Jerry Campbell and is taking our Bible Correspondence Course. We rejoice in this decision. Our program appears on WFXR 27 each Sunday in nearby Lynchburg, VA. Roy Gordon from Belize, a country in central America, called to let me know he is watching the SEARCH program each Sunday morning on Plus TV, which covers the whole nation of Belize. A member of the church, he knew something of this ministry and was delighted that we are on the air there each week. In days to come sweet Jackie will become my personal assistant, scheduling all of my appointments. She is doing better and will continue to be a great blessing in my life. Open Up “Devote yourselves to prayer,… praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ” (Colossians 4:2-3). Paul urged the Colossians to “devote themselves to prayer,” and there is nothing we can do today more important than pray to our Father in heaven. We need Him. We need His help, His providence, and His guidance. Paul especially wanted them to pray that God would “open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak the mystery of Christ.” This has been my constant prayer for many years. God opens doors for the word (2 Thessalonians 3:1-2). We also pray for God to open the windows of heaven so that we may continue our ministry effectively (Malachi 3:10; Deut. 28:10). We know that without the help of God we can do nothing. We raise our funds best upon our knees. We realize our task is to let the word of God open up hearts to the love of God and to the cross of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:2). We must hide ourselves behind the cross and watch God’s word work in the hearts and lives of those we teach. We pray that we may open up hands to give and to serve. We love filling the requests of our viewers and listeners. We prove our discipleship by producing fruit (John 15:8-10). We ask God to help us speak clearly and boldly (Colossians 4:4; Ephesians 6:19-20). But we also pray that those who hear will open up their minds to recognize God’s power in our lives and God’s truth in His word. We pray God will open up our eyes to recognize what God has already done for us and to be thankful for the privilege of serving in God’s vineyard, knowing God gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7). Will you help us in this work by praying with us and for us? Will you also give generously so that we might remain a strong voice for the Lord and for His cause? We need your help. The past month’s special series booklet “Your Soul” by Phil Sanders was one of the most requested programs SEARCH has produced. Our volunteers, in one morning, packaged and labeled more than four thousand of these booklets. Also, the audio CD’s of the program that had to be duplicated, labeled and mailed out numbered two thousand five hundred. Our confidence is high that continued requests will probably force SEARCH to do a reprint on the booklet. What a great problem to have! SEARCH has about fifty volunteers who help us each month with these and other tasks. We give GOD the glory and praise for each and every person volunteering to help us with this work load! As I am writing this article, I received a phone call from Jim Reischl from the church of Christ in Harlan, Iowa. Jim and I had worked together to get the SEARCH program on the local television cable company a couple of months ago. He went on to tell me the Elders asked him to see about also getting the SEARCH program on the local radio station. After a couple of quick phone calls, radio station KNOD 105.3 FM in Harlan, IA was added to the SEARCH schedule airing Sunday at 11:30 am. What a dedicated group of Christians in Harlan, IA may the LORD bless your efforts! SEARCH is now on sixty radio stations across the United States. If a visitor came to visit the church where you attend and asked if they could see the Jule Miller filmstrip series, also known as the GOSPEL filmstrips, would you know what they were talking about? This series, now available on DVD, was used extensively by Mack Lyon and thousands of other personal workers in cottage meetings or home BIBLE studies in years gone by. The reason I mention this series to you is because the John Hurt Bible correspondence course, used by SEARCH and other ministries, for further study ask the local church of Christ to see this series. If you would like more information on Jule Miller’s Visualized Bible Study Series, contact the Gospel Advocate Company at 1-800-251-8446. In HIM…. Chris Lyon The SEARCH Light 3 PROGRAMS July 2016 Topics subject to change without notice JULY 3 – SAYING NO TO GOD You can say yes to God or you can say no to God; but if you say no, you must realize there is a high price to pay and much to lose. In this lesson we’re going to explore the cost of rebelling against God’s will. JULY 10 – IS MARRIAGE OBSOLETE? A recent report reveals that four-in-ten Americans say marriage is obsolete. Is marriage obsolete? Does God approve of couples who live with each other but remain unmarried? Does marriage matter? JULY 17 – A CHURCH MEMBER? Many people want Jesus, but they are not sure about the church. Some have quit organized religion and others have started worshipping at home. What does the Lord say about being a member of a church? Is church membership the will of God? JULY 24 – IS SATAN REAL? Should we take Satan seriously? Does he really tempt us and want to steal our soul? Should I be afraid of Satan? What does the Word of God say about the devil and what should I know about him? JULY 31 – IS HELL REAL? Recent surveys say many people are questioning whether or not the lost will face punishment after this life is over. Is hell real, and will God really send the lost there for eternity? People need to know what God says about hell. Every Sunday morning I get the Search program with Phil Sanders by recording, since it airs here at 4 a.m. and I’m not up that early, but can watch it later. I enjoy it very much and have gotten to see my daughter and husband among the singers. May God’s richest blessings be upon you in continuing to serve him.” DANNEMORA, NY “I would like to thank this ministry for all your support and help in the Bible Correspondence Course. I have found the monthly newsletter informational and quite helpful along with my Christian reading material. I rededicated my life to serving the Lord, two years ago and this has been the best thing in my life. God’s grace is for now and He has shown me His love, grace, and mercy. As I continue to grow and apply God’s Word to my life, I truly am a new creation in Christ. May God continue to bless the ministry on all levels.” RACINE, WV “So thankful your message is reaching many souls. Each one is so important. Your program is still teaching me. Keep up the good work. Donation enclosed.” PUEBLO, CO “I appreciate you so much. Thank you for doing so much for me. Your ministry is a wonderful work in the Kingdom of God. Souls are hearing the Gospel and becoming saved from sin. Keep the faith. Preach the Word.” PERRYVILLE, MO “I listen to your program and like what I hear, even though I am not Church of Christ. I grew up in the Pentecostal faith, but now attend Southern Baptist. And can’t believe some of either? But I do believe one can lose their salvation and I would like to have a CD of your sermon on April 23. I tried to take scripture notes, but missed some of them. Love your T.V. time.” BLOOMINGROSE, WV “My husband and I had the pleasure of hearing Phil Sanders preach at the Flatwoods church of Christ at Flatwoods, KY on Monday night April 11. He is an excellent preacher and I wish we could have gone every night, but it was a long way for us to travel. My husband and I listen to Phil every Sunday morning.” NACOGDOCHES, TX “I thank God for my life and things being as well as they are. I have been in and out of hospitals since early February, had back surgery. It’s been a hard road, but thank God I am in rehab now. Please pray for me that I will get some of my health back. I am almost finished with the correspondence course I am taking. Thank you for helping me study my Bible.”
