Within the month of June,
LVDC members & volunteers
succeeded with staging two local events. A Half-Marathon &
5K within the La Purisima Mission State Historical Park and a
Kids 1K & Adult 3K on the
streets of Lompoc closed for the
annual Flower Festival Parade.
Expediate results and awesome
photos were posted to the
LVDC website.
Proceeds from the registrations
will fund High School Scholarships and research through the
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation.

Santa Barbara, CA. Family evening at the seashore built around
a 5K Fun Run.
Options now include two
aquathon distances: (1)The traditional 1K swim and 3.5 mile
run. (2)The new beginners 500
meter swim and 1 mile run.
Also a 2000 meter Open Ocean
Swim has been added. The basic 5 K footrace ,a kids Mile
and a Soft Sand Sprint for the
small children round out the
events.
Post Race events include live
mu-sic, food sampling and soft
drinks and adult beverages, bib
drawing door prizes and a variety of vendors throughout the
summer.

site every Wednesday, Ocean
swim waves begin at 6:25, Running events begin at 6:35. Vendors Booths open at 5 p.m. Free
Kiddies Sand Sprint at 7:30.
Bring Lawn chairs or blankets
to enjoy the sunset performances, along with your transistion gear and set up early.

This 5K race begins at
8:30am, with onsite registration only, from
7:15am-8:15am. Entry
fees will be $15 without a
race shirt and $25 with
one. Shirts will be available for the first 150 racers, upon request and size
requests will be filled in
order of entry,The course
will be marked on the
hard packed sand, starting
and ending at the Pismo
Beach Pier. Gold, silver,
and bronze medals will be
awarded to the top three
men and women ages 12
& under, 13-15, 16-19, 20
-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59,
60-69, 70-79, & 80+.

SUNDAY, JULY 24 (all
day) – 37th SAN LUIS
OBISPO TRIATHLON
(Swim = 1/2M, Bike = 15M,
Run = 3.1M):
SINSHEIMER PARK, SAN
LUIS OBISPO.
This event starts with the first
40 entrants hitting the pool at
6:30 AM and continues
through the day at Sinsheimer
Park at 900 Southwood Drive
in San Luis Obispo. Completion, rather than competition,
is the focus of the San Luis
Obispo Triathlon. Each participant is encouraged to set
and meet his or her own personal goal. This short course
(or sprint) triathlon offers
something for everyone, accommodating the novice participant while still challenging
the experienced athlete Each
finisher receives a medal, Tshirt, results, and is eligible
for the raffle drawing.
Registration will be available
on-line only and closes on
July 15th or when full.

2016 8AM. 10TH ANNUALHANK HUDSON MEMORIAL SPRINT TRIATHLON.LOMPOC AQUATIC
CENTER.
This is the 10th year for the
Lompoc Sprint Triathlon and
this year’s bike course is designed to avoid all rail road
tracks. Whether you are trying to break a great time, or
just trying to prove to yourself that you can complete a
triathlon, we want you!
You can enter as an individual or grab a few friends and
enter as a relay.
The distances are: 500yd
Swim, 11mile Bike, and a
3.1mile Run. Ages 14 and
up.
There is something for everyone, a t-shirt is included for
all participants and preregistration is required.
This event starts at the
Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207
West College Ave. Contact

for individuals and $90 for

TRIATHLON. LOMPOC
AQUATIC CENTER.
This is the 9th year for the
Lompoc Junior Triathlon
and the kids came out of
the woodwork last year to
compete, so sign up early.
The distances for this competition are: 50yd Swim,
1mile Bike, 1/4mile Run
(10 years and under) and
100yd Swim, 2mile Bike,
1/2mile Run (11-14 years).
T-shirts are included in the
fee for all participants and
pre-registration is required.
This event starts at the
Lompoc Aquatic Center,

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27, 2016. 8:00 AM. 28TH ANNUAL DUNE RUN RUN & WALK. 5K
RUN/5K WALK/10K RUN. GROVER BEACH.
This event takes place at Ramona Garden Park, 993 Ramona
Ave. in Grover Beach. Cost for the event is $26through August
18th — on line or in person at Grover Beach City Hall, after this
date registration goes up to $31 . Race day registration starts at
7:00 AM and the race starts at 8:00 AM. Enjoy a beautiful and
scenic run or walk through Grover Beach city streets, the Beach
Boardwalk, and hard packed sands of the Central Coast! The
10K run has changed-it no longer goes through the soft sand.
This is a great event for all ages.
1st and 2nd place medals will be awarded for all age and gender categories. Online Registration is
openthrough Thursday August 18, 2016. Contact info (805)473-4580 and registration is at

After the race stay around for the Stone Soup Music Festival Street Faire at Ramona Garden Park.

LINE 7.5-MILE FUN RUN AND
3.5MILE WALK, LA PURISIMA MISSION, LOMPOC.
The Lizard Breath Fence Line
run/walk is back this year after
being canceled in 2015
because of the
Mesa Fire
Here are the
details: Approximately
seven and a
half miles, sandy and hilly, or
3.5 mile walk. Very scenic for
those who enjoy that. Very
tough for those who are looking
for a challenge. Meat for the ultra marathoner, but not recommended for someone who is either A) not familiar with the terrain or B) not in very good
shape. No whiners allowed.
You will sign a waiver, Bubba.
Registration at the Chumash
Village under the big oaks towards the blacksmith shop.
Signups start at 9 AM; with the
run/walk starting at 10 AM. No
online registration. Fees: $10.

LOMPOC HIGH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Matthew Hamon
Rylee Sager
Matthew is graduating with a GPA of 4.03.His
academic goal is in Environmental and Plant Science. His occupational goal is to become a pest
control advisor. Matthew has been on the Principals List/Scholar Letter all four years of high
school. He has been awarded the Elks Student of
the Month the past three years of high school.
Matthew has been the Brave of the Quarter during three years of high school, chosen for the
Scholar Athlete Award during all 4 years of high
school. He received the varsity football F troop
award, and the varsity football scholar award.
KSBY featured him in the Friday night highlight play of the week this past year. In the FFA
he received three degrees, Greenhand, Chapter
and State degree; He won the FFA Advisor
Award and was a delegate to the state FFA convention. He has participated in the following extracurricular activities; Football and baseball all
four years of high school, wrestling in grades 9
and 10. Matthew was in the FFA all four years of
high school. Others include the Renaissance
Club, CSF, and JB Dewar Program which was
restoring a 1946 John Deere Model B tractor.
His community service accomplishments include
grooming and showing a steer at the Santa Barbara Country Fair
for a 4-H member
with a broken foot.
Has volunteered
with the Kiwanis
and Elks, helped
build a new roof for
the pig pens and did
landscaping at the
school farm. Matthew also volunteers
with the La Purisima
Conception Church.
Rylee is graduating with a gpa of 4.24
Her academic goal is to study kinesiology and
physcial therapy.
She has been awarded the LHS Scholar Athlete
Award in several sports all through her 4 years of
high school, and has been on the Lompoc High
School Principals List for a GPA of 4.0 or above
all four years of high school .
Rylee has participated in the following : cross
country, basketball, softball, golf. She worked with
Lompoc High athletic training at the jv and varsity levels in football and basketball during her
senior year. She was awarded the Northern Santa
Barbara County Female Athlete of the Week during her sophomore and senior years of high school.
She has coached with the Lompoc Recreation Center and the Boys and Girls club, in addition to being a Jr Softball coach (LGSA and a Jr Soccer
coach with Lompoc AYSO, and a special Olympics golf mentor.
She has worked on various school related projects
including Prom and Homecoming, Site Council,
ASB, and numerous others. In the community Rylee has participated in Feed the Homeless food
drives, Pops Orchestra, Mural in A Day, community cleanup, tutoring middle school students, and
Toys for Tots. Most
recently Ryle was a
team member of the
2016 Lompoc High
CIF Championship
Softball Team and was
the first recipient of
the LCCN All-Area
Softball Team Gold
Glove award . Rylee
was a member of the
Lompoc High Softball
CIF Champs.

CABRILLO HIGH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Edith Vargas
Samuel Reep
Edith graduated with a GPA of 4.2and her class
rank is 17th. Her academic goal is to earn a law
degree. She plans to be an advocate for immigrants and eventually start an organization to ensure newly arrived immigrants have shelter and
are adequately fed. Some of her honors and
awards include receiving all four years of high
school the following; 4.0 Academic Letter, Certificate of Academic Achievement, Scholar Athlete. Also she is a member of the National
Honor Society, and has received Conq of the
Quarter. During high school Edith has participated in Cross Country, Basketball, the Interact
Club, Conqs for Christ, CSF, ASB, and the
French Club of which she was president. She
also found time to sing with the Madrigals and in
her church choir. In leadership roles she has also
been involved with Teaching our Teens as Leaders Conference from 2014-16, and received the
Rotary Youth Leadership Award. During three
years of high school Edith also was a member of
the Lompoc Youth Commission. During her
junior and senior years she was a Link Leader to
help incoming freshmen through orientation
from middle school, and keeping in contact with
them so they become involved in their school.
Community involved also included La Purisima Food Pantry,
Salvation Army,
Adopt a Highway,
ELD Tutor, and
Thanksgiving Basket building at her
church to name
just a few.
Samuel graduated with a GPA of 4.42 and his
class rank is 3rd. His academic goal is to study
science through at least his Masters degree. He
wants to be able “to do something positive for
society that will have a long-lasting impact.”
He has been awarded Scholar Athlete, Academic
Letter, and Principals List all four years of high
school. He was a member of the National Honor
Society 10th—12th grade and was a Junior Escort for last years graduating seniors. Samuel
was nominated this year to give the Academic
Speech at graduation. He played water polo all
four years of high school both on JV and Varsity
levels. He was also on the Swim team, and on
the freshman baseball team. He received the following achievements in athletics: team MVP water polo in his senior year (goalie), He was All
League first team in 12th grade and All League
2nd team in 11th grade. He played in CIF quarterfinals and first round matches. He has also
received an Academic Letter 10th—12th grade.
He is active in clubs and extracurricular activities also; Church Youth Group, Fellowship of
Christian Athletes, National Honor Society,
CSF, Lumberjack Club, Conqs for Christ, and
the Marching Band.. Samuel has also held leadership roles in each of
the above activities.
Community Service
includes; Relay for
ALife, Camps
cleanup, Feed the
Hungry, Food Pantry,
He likes to read and
run.
