RELAY & DRIVER BLOCK PCB ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Copyright EduTek Ltd – Rev. 2 Circuit Details The circuit is shown below with a parts list of components. Check through this list and identify each component. Label R1 D1 Q1 RL1 Copyright EduTek Ltd Component Name 4.7KΩ resistor 1N4003 diode BC337 transistor DPDT 6v Relay No. 1 1 1 1 Miscellaneous 3 way PCB terminal block 3 way PCB terminal block No. 2 1 ASSEMBLY Below is the PCB with no components. The markings show the number and outline of each component. Before starting, check through the following: • Ensure you have safety goggles and adequate ventilation. • Use a soldering iron stand with a damp sponge to clean the iron tip regularly. • Use some small Wire-cutters to remove excess wire and have some snipe-nose pliers. Resistor There is one resistor, R1. It does not matter which way round it goes. Bend the legs the resistor near to the body at 90 degrees. R1 = 4.7KΩ, (Yellow, violet, red, gold) Diode The diode must be inserted the correct way round, otherwise the circuit will be permanently damaged. One end has a silver stripe, this is the cathode (negative connection) and should be at the top. Shape the legs in the same way as the resistors. Transistor There is one NPN transistor, Q1 = BC337. The legs should already be bent to shape. It must be inserted with the flat face to the left as shown. If the legs of the transistor are close together, bend the legs outwards slightly before inserting into the PCB. Terminal Connector Blocks There are 2 sets of terminal blocks. The 3-way fits on the left hand side with the openings facing outwards. The 4-way is made from two 2-way connectors and fits on the right facing outwards. Slide one 2-way connector down the side of the other so the grooves fit together. Relay Finally insert the relay into the PCB, it only fits one way round. The holes are larger but are a snug fit. Push the relay fully into the PCB and apply enough solder to fill the pads underneath.
