PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
As our Country enters its 15th year of the
Global War on Terror I wanted to ask everyone
to take a few moments to reflect on the sacrifices
our Armed Services have made during our longest
war and in conflicts past. As someone who has
“been there and done that” I can personally attest
to the toll that these continued conflicts have
taken on our brave men and women. . Whether
you are a Vet, a family member, know a Veteran
or have no idea about the military, a quiet
moment of reflection sometimes
helps to put things in perspective
we remember those who have fallen in service to our great nation.

This month as we celebrate Memorial Day, I would like to say thank you to all the men and
women who sacrificed their lives in service to our great country and protected the freedoms we
now enjoy. Here are a few upcoming events where we will recognize our local veterans:

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
CALIFORNIA CHIROPRACTIC
California Chiropractic, located at 555 W. Tefft St., #2, in the Miner's Shopping Center, has been
providing Gentle, Effective, and Caring Chiropractic care to Nipomo and the surrounding areas
since 2003. Dr. Janet Gaussoin opened her office in Nipomo after practicing chiropractic in Santa
Maria for over 13 years, and practicing in Texas prior to that.
Chiropractic is a natural health care discipline that focuses on the relationship between the body's
structure (primarily the spine) and function (coordinated by the nervous system), and seeks to restore balance in the body and maintain motion in the joints.
Dr. Janet treats musculoskeletal issues in patients of all ages, and has helped many people over the
years. Typical conditions helped with her care include whiplash and other sprain/strain injuries,
arthritis, sciatica, disc bulges, scoliosis, and pregnancy-related low back pain. There is overwhelming evidence showing that chiropractic care is effective in reducing pain syndromes and in restoring
function in the body. Numerous studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments are both safe
and effective. Many other studies have shown that chiropractic care is cost-effective, as healing
tends to occur in less time than with other treatment methods. Scientific studies have determined
that chiropractic treatment is more effective in reducing pain (than traditional medical and placebo
treatment) in both acute and long-term low back pain, neck pain, and headaches. For elderly patients, research has found that chiropractic patients are less likely to have been hospitalized and
used a nursing home, and more likely to report a better health status, ability to exercise, and maintain mobility in their communities. There is also evidence that chiropractic treatment is less costly
and gets workers back on the job quicker compared to medical treatment for work injuries. (Please
contact me for the sources for these studies.)
No one is too young or too old to benefit from chiropractic care. Dr. Janet has treated her own children from birth through childhood (including numerous seasons of sports team participation) and
young adulthood, as well as her parents (her father being a nonagenarian, that is, 90 years old!).
Dr. Janet uses a variety of techniques to “adjust” the spine and other joints, including Drop Table
and Activator, as well as traditional, manual adjustments. She also uses therapy modalities to aid
in relaxation and tissue healing.
Dr. Janet works with other health care providers, referring to and receiving referrals from pain
management specialists, orthopedists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and obstetricians. She participates with most insurance plans, including Medicare. She is referred to for work comp treatment,
as well as for personal injury treatment, particularly auto accidents.
Dr. Janet received her chiropractic training at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, TX, and her
undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State
University. She has lived in Nipomo since 1998, and
has raised her 3 children here.
