Saying Goodbye to
Handel’s Ice Cream
The Payday team is sorry to see a local institution
close its doors. This month, the Virginia Beach
location of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and
Yogurt said goodbye to our fair city. For years,
the ice cream shop, run by the Martin family (Dr.
William Martin, his wife Sharon and son Robert)
was part of the fabric of Virginia Beach.
The Martins happily provided Payday team
members and families across Hampton Roads with
*sweet* memories and delicious ice cream flavors
like Banana Cream Pie, Graham Central Station and
Raspberry Cheesecake Chunk.
Yes, Handel’s was a longtime Payday client, and
we never like to lose a member of the Payday family.
But we’ll hold onto the special times we all had
there. Like the photo to the right of Olivia, Danny
Kline’s daughter, as she tried ice cream for the very
first time. What better place to experience ice cream
than Handel’s!
Danny Kline’s daughter, Olivia, enjoys Handel’s ice cream for the first time...yum!

Andy Kline for President?
BY ANDY KLINE, FOUNDER
What a fabulous time to be in
business and to be an American.
After we were promised that, “If we like our health plan,
we can keep our health plan,” we were informed by our “Too
Big to Jail” Insurance Carrier that 1) we cannot keep our
health plan and 2) we would now be paying more money for
half the benefits.
Hmmmm, that was either one big lie or just gross
incompetence. The government had no understanding what
political hacks, lobbyists and big Pharma had written into the
law for them.
Now we have another pronouncement from the same
group that negotiated the “best possible deal” to minimize
Iran’s nuclear bomb development. Iran won’t be inspected
until it gives approval, doesn’t have to shut down any existing
facilities and will have a boatload of frozen assets released.
We obtained the right to come home and say a deal was
struck, not much else.
The day after the signing, Iranians screamed “Death to
America!” at government-sanctioned rallies in Tehran. And
our chief negotiator, Mr. John Kerry, was the guy who could
not outwit or outperform the most eloquent George W. Bush
in a presidential debate. I don’t know about you, but to deal
with tough-as-nails terrorists, I don’t send out the guy who
couldn’t beat “W” in a battle of words.
AND if I was trying to earn the trust and faith of a new
client prospect, say Arby’s, I would not leave my meeting with
them and then shout in the streets the next day, “Arby’s beef
is the worst! Arby’s is poison! Shut down Arby’s!” It’s just not
a good way to build a trusting relationship. (Esther, me and
especially Kipper the dog, look forward to our Arby’s stops
when on the road.)
So as you have gathered, I feel we are living in the worst of
times. Donald Trump leads the presidential polls and another
potential Clinton-Bush contest is in the works. And worse, I
love every minute of them. God help me.
If your industry has any regulations and government
oversight (interference), then you have also come to the
conclusion that our presidential outlook is bad, but our
legislative branch is even worse. It’s more clueless and
beholden to special interests than John Kerry is to ketchup.
The vast overreach and meddling into the affairs of honest
business owners is compounded by the lack of wisdom and
judicial common sense that we in business must display
every single day to survive. And, oh yeah, I forgot...integrity
and honesty. We all do what is best for the client or patient.
Political leaders seems to have lapsed into what is best for
them.
That is why I am announcing that I will be running for
the Republican...what? They already hit their legal number
of candidates? Can’t even fit them onto a debate stage? Andy
2020.
Valerie McKenzie SAYS:
When you submit payroll via fax or email, remember to use our
input worksheets and provide hash totals. The info helps with our
reconciliation process and provides you with an accurate payroll.
Be sure to separate hour types (e.g. regular, vacation, overtime)
so we don’t need to call you to clarify information.

The Payday Family
Continues to Grow!
On June 26th, Rhea Evans, our implementation specialist
in our Florida office, welcomed her second child into the
world. Liam Shane Evans was born at 7:55 AM. He tipped the
scales at 7 pounds, 12 ounces and is 20 inches in length. Liam
also melted the hearts of Rhea, her husband Jay, daughter Eva
and our FL Regional Manager Jeff Marbach (Rhea’s Dad).
Rhea is currently out of the office and recovering while she
enjoys quality time with Liam. She was gracious enough to
share a few pictures with us.
Congratulations to Rhea,
Jay and big sister Eva!
Heather Leeming SAYS:
Remember when you terminate an employee, you should also
place an end date on his/her direct deposit (or completely
remove it). If the employee is rehired, have the person fill out a
new direct deposit authorization to update information. The new
form will reduce the likelihood of sending funds to a bad account.
Want to Automate Processes? We Can Help!
Payday Payroll can do more than just process your payroll. Many of our clients take advantage of our ancillary
services that help to streamline their workflow. We can move data from system to system without the need for
manual entry, which eliminates human error, saves time and
makes for more efficient processing! Here are a few of our most
popular automation services.
•
•
•
General Ledger Import – Payday’s IT team can code your
payroll chart of accounts and produce a file that posts payroll
automatically into your accounting software.
Retirement Plan Funding – We upload employee deferrals
and employer contributions to all of the major retirement
plan platforms. We have staff dedicated to performing the
task, which helps you stay in compliance with ERISA and DOL regulations.
POS Import – Do you have employees clocking in/out using a POS? Most of these systems export a file we can
use to import directly into payroll. The import saves you time and the headache of printing reports and handkeying data.
Please contact our office at 757-523-0605 or email [email protected] for more information. Ask to speak
with a member of the IT department.

Tell us what you think differentiates Payday in the
marketplace:
I pride myself on excellent service and going the extra
mile for my clients. Knowing that everyone at Payday
shares the same philosophy makes my job so much
easier. I left a national payroll company after 16 ½ years
to come to Payday almost two years ago – and I couldn’t
be happier! No phone trees to navigate, no voicemails
and no hassles. What a great family I’ve joined; I only
wish I made the move sooner!
What do you like to do on your time off?
My husband and I moved to the Blackwater section of
Chesapeake almost two years ago. We have a little over
an acre of land and I love to be outside. I’m loving the
country living and have my first real garden. I planted
what I thought was a cucumber plant and found out I’m
growing pumpkins! My husband and I have recently
added a pool to our backyard and enjoying hosting
friends and family whenever possible.
We understand you have an adventurous side.
I love animals, especially ocean life. I swam with
dolphins and sting rays in the Bahamas and sea turtles
in Hawaii. I have been close to a barracuda -- probably
closer than I should have been -- and found out they’re
scary! My next ocean venture is to swim with sharks. My
husband says I have to wait until he dies, so I guess I’m
going to be very old when that day comes. I have also
done a tandem skydiving jump, but once is enough!
