Other churches could take note of how you did everything. I will recommend your way forever…..so tasty, and beautiful on the table. I loved everything. A special thank you to all of you! Mary Micallef Word of Life “The virtue of chastity….is not a “no” to pleasure and to the joy of life, but a great “yes” to love as a profound communication between persons, as love that is capable of generating life and of generously welcoming a new life which is born.” Pope Benedict XVI, Address to participants in the Meeting Promoted by the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, May 13, 2011 Page 5 Samaritan House Back-To-School Drive Last year, the Samaritan House provided backpacks filled with school supplies to 374 area children. Corner of the Religious Education Building “Let us beseech the Lord to reawaken in us the joy at His presence and that we may once more adore Him. Without adoration, there is no transformation of the world.” “The measure of life in the Church, the measure of her inner openness, will be seen in that she will be able to keep her doors open, because she is a praying Church. I ask you all therefore from the heart, let us make a new start at this. Let us again recollect that the Church is always alive, that within her evermore the Lord comes to meet us. The Eucharist and its fellowship, will be all the more complete, the more we prepare ourselves for Him in silent prayer before the Eucharistic presence of our Lord.” (Quotes from Pope Benedict XVI’s book God is Near Us: The Eucharist, The Heart of Life, published as Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger). Not only can a cluttered or dirty house be uncomfortable, but it can become a real health and safety hazard. The M a co m b C oun t y I n t e r f a i th Caregivers program provides supportive services such as these to those in our community who cannot afford to pay for professional help and do not have family available locally to assist them. If you have a couple of hours once or twice a month that you can offer to provide some light housekeeping for a struggling neighbor, you can make a real difference in their life. Please contact us at 586-757-5551. Catholic Services of Macomb 586-416-2300 SHOE DRIVE Page 7 Put your best foot forward and help Pangea Educational Development (PED) by donating your old yet wearable shoes. PED is a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to empower students and unify communities through the construction of sustainable schools in underprivileged areas. PED’s goal is to raise 22,000 shoes. Items will go to Africa for those in need. Without shoes parasites can enter the human foot resulting in illness and even death. Not only are people in Africa being helped with wearable shoes and education opportunities through PED, but American landfills are not filled with usable shoes. Please bring your shoes before the Masses on the weekend of August 13/14 and leave them in the Narthex. Any kind of footwear is appreciated, from boots, to shoes to flip flops, as long as they are wearable. The footwear can show wear, but the sole needs to be serviceable. Footwear is needed for children, women and men. If you have any questions please call Diane Schwartz at 586 556-0117. 5 Minutes Could Mean $50 for You! Registration is the official way we join a parish community. Many people think that because they attend a particular parish they automatically belong. At times young adults who have moved away for years think they are still registered under their parents. But membership requires signing up - formally enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration is a commitment to a community, a way to be included in the religious, social and ministerial activities of your parish. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census numbers can determine how many priests are assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the community has to the diocese, and how Masses and programs are planned and scheduled. Registration shows you belong! It is also necessary for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining sponsor certificates, and getting donation statements for tax purposes. Most importantly, it lets the parish count on you, to call on you to assist in its mission. Registering in your parish is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and work of your parish. 2009 Liturgical Publications Inc.
