Meet those who have participated in the RCIA process! Below each of their pictures
is their response to the question: “What brought you to the RCIA process?”
Sheri Kanan was Baptized
and celebrated her
First Communion at a young
age. She completed her
initiation into the
Catholic Faith by celebrating her
Confirmation at the Easter Vigil.
JoAnna Strizic was Baptized
and celebrated her
First Communion at a
young age. She completed
her initiation into the
Catholic Faith by celebrating her
Confirmation at the Easter Vigil.
“I had never made my Confirmation. I’ve
thought about making my Confirmation for the
past ten years and never took the first step
until last year. I called Patricia Radacsy and
told her I was interested in celebrating my
Confirmation. She told me a little about the
RCIA process and it felt like the right thing to
do. It has been a wonderful experience!”
“I Just knew it was time. It was just a
knowing I felt. My journey back to the
Catholic Church has taken over five years.
This process has brought me closer to the
Church, the rituals, and most of all Christ.”
Mike Fuller was baptized into
a different faith. He was
brought into full communion
with the Catholic Church at
the Easter Vigil by making a
Profession of Faith, and celebrating his
First Eucharist and Confirmation.
“My wife and I were seeking a church home
and once we visited St. Kieran we both felt
our search was over. We are both very happy
with our decision to enter the Catholic faith
and look forward to the future at St. Kieran.”
Nancy Fuller was baptized into
a different faith. She was
brought into full communion
with the Catholic Church at the
Easter Vigil by making a
Profession of Faith, and celebrating her
First Eucharist and Confirmation.
“I attended the Easter Vigil Mass last year and
felt very comfortable and felt like I was home.
My husband and I started attending Mass
together and felt our faith grow so we started
attending the RCIA process. I am very happy
with my decision and look forward to
becoming part of St. Kieran.”
Bill Pavka was Baptized at the Easter Vigil, and
also celebrated First Eucharist, and Confirmation
“I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life and I needed something.
I started coming to St. Kieran every Sunday. I found a great deal of comfort in coming
to church, things began to get better and one day when I was leaving Mass I was handed a brochure about
RCIA, by my unbeknown to me future sponsor, Deb Paglia. I decided to find out more so I called Karen
Schroder and signed up to come to a RCIA gathering. It has been a life changing experience for me. I am
so thankful to God and this community for the welcome and support I have been given. I look forward to
opportunities to give back to this wonderful community in the future. Thanks be to God!”

Catholic Quote
Jesus is living next to you, in the brothers and sisters
with whom you share your daily existence.
Pope John Paul II
Taken from “Catholic Book of Quotations” by Leo Knowles
“Please? Everyone else is doing it!”
It’s normal for children to want to fit in with their friends. They may get to see movies you don’t allow, or play with
toys or games you won’t give your children. How do we wisely decide what to allow when children insist, “Everyone
else is doing it?”
Is what your child wants good for his soul? For example, will it forward any of the seven virtues necessary for good
character (faith, hope, charity, prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance)? Or, will it interfere with these virtues?
Ask advice from other parents whose judgment you trust. This is especially helpful if you can find veteran parents
who are more experienced.
Put it off. Don’t make a hasty decision you may regret. Allowing time to elapse may be the right antidote to the latest
fad.
Trust your gut. When something doesn’t feel right, pay attention to your instincts. God often speaks to us in these
moments.
Don’t act alone. Do your best, and let God do the rest.

INNER HEALING DAY
June 25, 2011
St. Kieran will host the Inner
Healing Day with prayer teams
under the auspices of the Detroit
Catholic
Charismatic
Renewal
Center on Saturday, June 25, from
10 a.m. to 12 noon in the White
Room (enter from the back of the
building).
Private, personal, individual prayer
will be available.
In the inner healing prayer, led by
the Holy Spirit, Jesus is asked to
heal
the
emotional
and
psychological scars caused by
people in our past, often those
closest to us. If you would like
prayer for the Lord to take the pain
from your painful memories come
to St. Kieran, Saturday morning.
W
hat does our Catholic faith teach
us about violence?
It's the same sad story. In television, movies, computer games and even
children's cartoons, we see violence glorified and practically made a
virtue. In general, society has been so desensitized to it that we forget
the horrific consequences of violence and its devastating effect on human
life and dignity.
Today all possible forms of blood and gore are shown in graphic detail. And
somehow the star of the show manages to show up a week later, ready to
take on another bad guy with guns, explosives and fearsome weapons.
In this context of a casual view of violence, the Catechism deals with it
under the section on "Safeguarding Peace" (2302ff). It is not a naive view
of peace at any cost, but a stark reminder of the great moral
responsibility when deciding to use force and violence as a means of
defense. At the heart of the teaching on peace and violence is the
preservation of the rights and obligations of all people. Not only must one
weigh gravely the choice to use violence, but also one cannot simply
exclude it if it is necessary to protect and defend others. The value of
human life and dignity is paramount and we are not excused from the
difficult and weighty responsibility that it entails. Our best recourse is to
pray for peace and justice and the grace of God to preserve it.

Give Me A Break
Many families in our community are
struggling to take care of a loved one
at home. A break to run errands, go
to their own doctor appointments, or
just relax for an hour is often
impossible because their parent/
spouse cannot be left alone. Your gift
of time, even a few hours once or
twice a month can make a huge
difference for these families. No
hands-on care or nursing experience
is needed. For more information call
the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers at
586 757-5551.
Are you a Medical
Professional?
Could you volunteer one or two
hours a year to our
Health Ministry Team?
For more information, please call

W
hy is it important to be registered in a parish?
Registration is the official way we join a parish community. Many people think that because they
attend a particular parish they automatically belong. At times young adults who have moved away
for years think they are still registered under their parents. But membership requires signing up formally enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration is a commitment to a community, a way to be included in the
religious, social and ministerial activities of your parish. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census
numbers can determine how many priests are assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the community
has to the diocese, and how Masses and programs are planned and scheduled. Registration shows you belong! It is
also necessary for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining sponsor certificates, and getting donation
statements for tax purposes. Most importantly, it lets the parish count on you, to call on you to assist in its
mission. Registering in your parish is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and work of your parish.
