at the Paris Convention Center #2 at 7

Jazz Ensemble and Paris/Henry County
Middle School Jazz Ensemble as they
perform great music, while delicious
finger food, desserts and beverages are
served. Guest artists this year are Michael Holden and Dr. Todd E. Hill. Both
are Henry County High School alumni
and are active performers and educators

Volunteers Needed for Tennessee Promise Saturday
Paris Landing State Park is looking for volunteers ages 16 and
up to help with trail maintenance which will include removal
of invasive species, removal of trash, fallen logs, spreading
mulch along the trail, adding bird houses, amphibian houses,
signs and trail markings. Please wear appropriate clothing
for working outside on the trail. (closed toe shoes, pants, etc.)

history that is an impressive collector’s
item.
Cherry Jones, Paris native and winner of
two Tony Awards and one Emmy, played
Hank Williams’ mother in the biopic, I
Saw the Light, which is currently in theaters. Jones was on set in the Shreveport
Municipal Memorial Auditorium, the
former home of the Louisiana Hayride
radio show.
“That auditorium had to double as the
Grand Ole Opry in the film,” said Jones,
“so they created these exact replicas of
the Opry chair covers from the period
when Hank played the Opry.” She ad-

made and transformed the venue.”
The prop mistress asked if the Tennessee actress would like
to have a couple of the covers. “Realizing that they were a
real treasure, I asked Tom Hiddleston to sign them both. That
makes this one of only two autographed, Opry chair covers
from that movie in existence,” said Jones. “The other was
auctioned at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center fundraiser
last year.”
“The autographed cover is approximately 17.5W x 12.25”H x
1.75”D and is in mint condition. It is being auctioned on EBay
under Entertainment Memorabilia - Tom Hiddleston, and the
bidding closes at midnight on April 10th,” said DPA Executive
Director Kathy Ray. “With Cherry being from Henry County
and Hank Williams, Jr. living here, this item is tied to our
county in a number of ways. We expect lots of bids,” said Ray.
“We have benefitted from Cherry’s generosity before, and we
hope that this is the start of a new mode of fundraising for the
DPA,” said Ray. In 2009 Jones, who played President Allison
Taylor on the TV drama “24” raised $25,000 for five local
charities. The DPA was one of the recipients.
Jones, whose family owned Jack Jones Flowers on the court
square in this small West Tennessee town is a big fan of the
Downtown Paris Association. “They do such a marvelous job
keeping events going in our bustling downtown throughout
the year. When I’m home I always try to take part in whatever
they are doing, because it’s guaranteed fun.”
