This is a great opportunity for the parish as a whole to remember the excitement we each felt when we first received the Body and Blood of Christ! Saint Petronille Catholic Parish May 8, 2016 Page Follow St. Petronille: www.stpetschurch.org Christian Service Community The Poor Household of God How pleased the Oikos Sisters were when they heard they were one of the chosen organizations to benefit from the Charity sale hosted by St. Petronille Church! The Oikos Sisters are a small religious missionary community who have committed to living a life of prayer, holiness and service to God’s very poor in the Philippines. A dream of the Sisters is to build a little village and last year a benefactor donated a piece of land to the Sisters. Their “Charity” Village is no longer a dream but becoming a reality. A single home costs $2,500.00 to build. One home at a time, this village will be built. This is how the portion of money raised from the charity sale will be used by The Poor Household of God. What a wonderful gift, to give a family living in cramped squalor a home! Perhaps your group that was formed through RENEW 20-30 years ago is still meeting? Maybe you have a group from the Heart of the Neighborhood effort that still meets? Are you meeting regularly in a Cursillo small group reunion? Are you in a Bible study or spiritual book study small group? Maybe you were in a group from one or more of these which morphed into another group that now meets. St. Petronille would like to know who you are, how many are in your group, and whether your group is open to new members. Over the course of this next year, St. Petronille will be organizing to launch a new program encouraged by Bishop Conlon and Fr. Jim Dougherty called “Be My Witness” from RENEW International. We are taking a survey of how many groups are already out there meeting regularly. If you are currently meeting regularly in a small group of any kind, please contact Christine Balaty at [email protected] or (630)469-0404 x2107. Thank you for recognizing the value of mission trips. Our young people grow in love and faith when given the opportunity to serve others. Mary Miller, Director, [email protected] On Monday, April 25, students in 8th Grade had a Science lesson that they are not likely to forget! Huddled at various tables in the Science lab under the direction of 6-8 Grade Science teacher, Mrs. Peters, the students dissected the eye of a cow! The objective of the lesson that day was to understand the parts of the nervous system; to explain the structure and function of neurons; to School Youth Ministry Mother’s Day Teen Mass 5 pm tonight understand how nerve impulses travel through the body; and to conduct simple experiments to help explain nerves, nerve impulses, and stimulus. The 8th Grade “scientists” were engaged, and for the most part, comfortable enough with this hands-on activity!
