This past Tuesday evening, representatives from New Energies were here to inform our parishioners about future plans for our parish and for the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. A joint meeting was held on Monday evening with the leaderships teams of both parishes here at Immaculate Conception with New Energies. The information we received from the Archdiocese was that the two parishes will be merged into one new parish corporation. The name of the new parish corporation will be St. Theresa of Calcutta, while the actual church building will remain Immaculate Conception Church. With the retirement of Fr. Anthony Lionelli on July 1st, I have been appointed by the Archbishop as the Temporary Administrator of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel beginning July 1st until the merger of the parishes is completed. The target date for this merger to happen will be sometime in the fall. As this process unfolds, I ask for your patience, understanding and prayers for all the priests, staff, employees, and especially all the faithful of both our parishes. Sincerely in the Lord, Fr. Joe Jubilee Year of Mercy: Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity The word Mercy, Pope Francis declared in his announcement of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, “reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity” (Misericordiae Vultus, 2). For mercy is how God comes to meet us; mercy is the fundamental law helping us recognize everyone as brothers and sisters; mercy is the bridge connecting God and humanity, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness. God's self-revelation as a life-giving, love-sharing Trinity of Persons draws us closer to God in friendship and communion. Both Judaism and Islam consider mercy one of God's most important attributes. Israel unceasingly proclaims God boundless in mercy. Islam addresses the Creator as “Merciful and Kind,” believing divine mercy limitless, its doors always open. May this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis prays, open us to more fervent dialogue, deepen our mutual understanding, eliminate all closed-minded disrespect, and drive out every form of violence and discrimination. --Peter Scagnelli, Copyright (c) J. The Most Holy Trinity CONCERT TODAY MUSIC AT IMMACULATE concludes the 2015-2016 season today with a concert by Schola Cantorum on Hudson entitled: A Global Tapestry. This concert features a commissioned work by Jake Runestad that will have its world premiere. Without making any political statements, the concert seeks to serve as a catalyst for enlightened patriotism within this nation of immigrants, drawing upon such beloved musical reminders as Give Me Y our Tired, Your Poor, Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears, and Ysaye Barnwell’s Would you harbor me? The concert will include companion media for smart electronics. The concert is at 5PM and tickets are available at the door. Our Pipe Organ’s Centenary The magnificent pipe organ in our church was installed and dedicated in 1916. Plans are underway to celebrate its centenary in the 2016-2017 season. Pipe Organs are the most complex of all musical instruments with thousands of pipes and moving parts. Extensive work was undertaken in the 1995 renovation of our church to restore some of those components. Some further improvements have taken place in the last 21 years as needed, but now is our opportunity to fully restore the instrument and embark on some of the improvements which were envisioned in 1995. This will of course rely on the generosity of our parishioners to make this a reality. In short, we are planning to complete the following work to the organ in celebration of its centenary: ♦ Completing any mechanical restoration yet undone to the organ in the loft, which is 100 years old. ♦ Replacing the digital sounds behind the pretend pipes in the front of church with authentic pipe sounds. Our parish has an amazing opportunity to make use of a pipe organ from a closed Catholic Church in our Archdiocese to make the sound heard from the front of the church worthy of the historic sound heard from the back of the church at a fraction of the cost if we were to purchase the pipes new. We plan to fund these renovation in 3-ways, none of which will involve using general parish dollars: ♦ A special 2nd collection this weekend, where any proceeds from this collection will be used towards the organ restoration. ♦ A Gala to be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Van Vleck House. ♦ The remaining balance will come from the Music Endowment savings account, which has come from donations from parishioners and friends to further the music program in our parish. We ask that all parishioners reflect on the role of music and the organ in our liturgies and in the life of our parish, both now and in our church’s great history and to prayerfully consider donating towards this cause. Any parishioner with questions or wishing to assist in the centenary year is welcome to contact Preston: [email protected] Stewardship Reflection: The Most Holy Trinity — May 22, 2016 “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth....” —John 16:13 Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we need to open our heats to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer routine to ask the Holy Spirit to help guide our thoughts and actions. HUGH M.
