From the President
A
s the President of the Davison Chamber of
Commerce, I am proud to present the 2016
Membership Directory. New this year, the Davison
Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Davison
Index and View Newspaper Group to produce our 2016
Membership Directory & Community Guide. This directory will feature businesses, non-profit and civic organizations, and focuses on Chamber events. This will make our
Directory available to consumers and provide some great
marketing opportunities. I encourage your support and participation in all of our exciting events this year.
Our first event of the year will be the Grub & Pub Crawl.
This event is an enjoyable evening of delicious sampling
of specialty drinks and eats showcasing some of Davison’s
best food and beverage establishments. Transportation will
again be provided for this fun, high energy evening on the town.
In June, the celebration begins with Davison’s largest event, the Festival of
Flags as it turns 70 this year! The Festival will be held in Davison’s Parks from
June 8th – June 12th and will feature many exciting activities throughout the
week. Make sure to save the dates and join us to celebrate Davison’s premier
event.
Later in the year, the Stars & Stripes Golf Classic will return to the Copper
Ridge Golf Club on Saturday, September 10th. Also, the Harvest “Scholarship”
Auction will be held in October with the Public ALWAYS Welcome to have fun
while supporting our awesome Davison High School Students.
As always, we will be hosting our monthly networking meetings on the first
Wednesday of each month and we will be alternating between breakfast and
lunch for these meetings.
In addition to this directory, you will find information on our website at
www.DavisonChamberofCommerce.com. There you will be able to find detailed
information regarding our monthly meetings and all of our Chamber events.

DAVISON TWP. — Some residents said it
sounded like a jet engine when a natural gas
leak erupted from a line in the ground, Oct. 13.
The leak forced the closing of Lapeer Road,
but it has since reopened following repairs to
the 8-inch pipeline where a valve opened up
unexpectedly. The area was not evacuated, said
officials.
The scene was cleared by repair crew about
4:30 p.m.
Consumers Energy crews were on scene to
make sure the pipeline was clean. A spokesperson for the company said the pipeline likely
opened due to debris or dirt in the line.
A reverse 911 call went out to residents in the
half-mile radius to make them aware of the situation. — G.G.

June 8th to June 12th
70 years of celebrating

or 70 years the Davison Community has come
together to celebrate The Festival of Flags.
It is with great pride that the Davison Area
Chamber of Commerce hosts Davison’s largest event
in its 70th year this summer! The event this year
will again take place in one location, the Davison
area parks. “It’s just a win-win,” said Davison Area
Chamber of Commerce executive director LaDawn
Hastings.
Davison is known as the “City of Flags” so it’s only
fitting that the community honors Military Heroes
as they lead the Parade, set to kick off at 11 a.m.
Saturday, June 11th this summer. It is one of the
largest parade in Genesee County. Spectators are
encouraged to wear red, white and blue and arrive
early at 10:30 a.m. to cheer on the Children’s Parade
lead by Tinker Bell, Peter Pan and Wendy. Everyone
is encouraged to bring a law/ bag chair to sit in and
relax, while checking out the number of exciting
attractions.
Along with the Parade, the Festival of Flags also
includes tons of family fun, live music, sports tournaments, carnival rides, delicious food and much more.
Keep in mind all the additional special events that
take place during the Festival are run by volunteers.
“There’s just so much involved,” said Hastings. If you
would like to volunteer to help with any event large or
small during the Festival please contact the Chamber
office at 810-653-6266 “Many hands make for light
work,” she added. “Even if you just volunteer for two
hours one day, it’s a huge help.”

annual Color Me Davison 5k Fun Run presented
by Advanced Physical Therapy Center. The run
takes place during the annual Festival of Flags and
kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9th. As the first
color run in Davison, the event was popular from the
start, growing each year. Last year the event hosted
about 700 runners and this year, thanks to the fact
that it is the 70th anniversary of the Festival of Flags,
organizers are olanning on close to 1,000 runners.
The Color Me Davison 5k Fun Run is a family friendly, non-competitive race that encourages participants of all shapes, ages and abilities
to experience the beauty of Davison area parks and all that Davison has to offer.
Participants of the race will travel along the scenic route and pass through 10 color
stations where spectators will dowse them with non-toxic colored powder. By the end
of the five kilometers, participants will be covered head-to-toe in the colors of the rainbow, and their race T-shirt will be a colorful memento of the family fun time they had.
