15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 10, 2016
Dear Parishioners,
As you entered the parking lot today, you could not help but notice that our annual Parish Picnic is taking place.
The picnic continues until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10th. On Sunday, a delicious roast beef and fried chicken
dinner is being served all afternoon in the school cafeteria. You won’t want to miss that! Carry outs are also available.
The cost is $10 for adults and $5.00 for children and $9.00 for seniors. Also, the winner of our Mega Cash Raffle will
be announced at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. (If less than 1000 tickets are sold, then the raffle becomes a 50/50 split.)
So, come and stop by for a while. Enjoy being with your friends and fellow parishioners.
We have 17 people signed up for the Pilgrimage to Fatima and Spain that I will be leading from October
10-21st. We can accept up to 25 people. So, if you are interested, please contact the Parish Office as soon as
possible and review the brochure. Sometime in July, the tour company will be releasing the extra airline seats that have
been reserved. This year is the 99th anniversary of the apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, where “the sun danced in the
sky.” Fatima hosts one of the more important shrines to Our Blessed Mother of our Catholic faith. In Spain, we will be
visiting some of the more awe-inspiring churches of the world. We will be celebrating Mass in most of these churches.
We will also be visiting the art treasures of Spain, especially the works of Gaudi, El Greco, Murillo and Goya. We will
also be enjoying delicious Spanish cuisine and wine. We will be visiting the charming cities of Seville, Cordoba,
Granada, Toledo and Barcelona. This pilgrimage promises to be an enriching and unforgettable experience both in the
spiritual sense and in the culinary sense.

Healing Day of Reflection
with Rev. Mike Rayson
Senior Pastor,
Nameoki United Methodist Church
Find helpful insights into healing from
loss as Rev. Mike Rayson, a native of
Australia, shares his own story of loss.
Rev. Rayson learned about the valley
of the shadows the hard way after the
death of his oldest son, Sam, in a horse
riding accident. At the time of his
death, Sam was 11 years old. Since
then, Rev. Rayson has traveled all over the United
States and the world speaking about living your faith
while dwelling in the shadows. He has spoken on this
subject in churches and at conferences of a few and a
few thousand – including Westminster Abbey in London, the Roman Catholic Church of England and
Wales, the Waldensian Church in Italy and the Church
of Scotland.
He uses music, testimony and theological reflection to
explore the themes of dying, death and grief, and
claims as his own the promise of Romans 8:38-39…
I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s
love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not
angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not
powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is
created. (Common English Bible)

Are you a person of prayer and a disciple of Christ?
Can you make a weekly commitment?
If you answered yes to any of these
questions, you would make a great PSR
teacher! PSR catechists are special people,
called by the Holy Spirit to share their faith.
They come from many different
backgrounds, united in love for children and
Jesus Christ. They teach and learn from
their students! Various times/grades are needed. Formal
education is not required. We will train you and provide
you with an experienced team leader who will develop
your syllabus and lesson plans. Child care is free. For
those who do not volunteer, a small stipend per class is
available for reimbursement of your time. Please contact
Mary Doerr, Coordinator of Religious Education at
(636) 441-0055, ext. 300 or 301 for more information.
PSR Registrations are Due!
Grades K-8
Old & New PSR students:
 Registration forms are available at the
PSR office in the Parish Center
 One parent must be a registered member of St.
Joseph Parish
 Please include a copy of the Baptism certificate and
any other sacramental information
You can also register IN PERSON Mon.—Thurs. from
8:30 a.m—noon & 1:30 p.m.— 4:00 p.m. Mailed-in
registrations will NOT be accepted.
LAST OPEN REGISTRATION FOR PSR!
We are having an open registration on Sunday, July 24,
starting after the 8:45, 10:30, and 12:15 masses. f you
still need to register, registration will be held in the St.
Joseph Room. Our Monday night session is closed for all
grades.
Attention 1st Grade PSR Parents
This is a required PSR year for all of our public school
children. They will begin to memorize and comprehend
basic Catholic prayers and teaching. These will be the
building blocks for the next two sacraments they will
receive in 2nd grade. A child who does not
attend and is not properly instructed in first
grade is at such a disadvantage. Children
must attend the 1st grade PSR program to
be adequately prepared to understand and
receive those sacraments.

A Look into the Year of Mercy
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift
of God!”—excerpt from Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy Prayer
Recommended Reading for
the Year of Mercy
Pope Francis’ The Joy of the Gospel is a
deeply personal invitation to reflect on
the gap between the life we are living
and the life God calls us to live. It is an
invitation to love both God and our
neighbor more fully. It is an invitation
to live more fully in the midst of the
opportunities and challenges that each
day presents. In this apostolic
exhortation, Pope Francis refers to mercy 32 times!
Year of Mercy Retreat
“A Mercy Gentle yet Strong” is a silent retreat
led by Katherine Doyle, RSM at Mercy
Center, Frontenac, July 18—20, 2016. In this
Extraordinary Year of Mercy, you are invited to explore the
mystery of God’s mercy through this guided retreat—a
time of prayer, reflection, and sharing.
Mary Katherine Doyle, RSM is the Novice Minister for the
Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in St. Louis.
