As spring draws to a close
and the summer months
begin, we have much to be
thankful for at Macland
Baptist Church. Our services over the past many
weeks have been greatly
blessed by God, especially
since we came together as
a church and began having
only one morning worship
service. We have seen
many decisions made, several have been baptized,
and the Holy Spirit has
been moving in a very
powerful way each Sunday. We give all praise and
glory to God!
Yet as the summer months
begin, we need to remind
ourselves that the work of
ministry has to continue
even as many travel and
take vacations. In fact, the
summer months are among
our busiest and most productive of the entire
year. In the month of June
we will hold our annual
Vacation Bible School
(June 6-10, 9 am to 12
noon); our children will be
attending CentriKid Camp
at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee (June 1317); and our youth will be
going on a mission trip to
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they will do
street witnessing and other
ministry (June 18-24). We
will still have weekly adult
choir practice, handbell
choir practice, elementary
school children’s choir
practice, hold special Bible
studies for youth and
adults, conduct our
monthly outreach night,
promote missions, and of
course, engage in our regular worship services each
Sunday morning and evening and on Wednesday
evenings. The work of
ministry must continue,
and we must always remember that the devil
never sleeps; he never
takes a break; he never
goes on vacation; and he
never leaves his work killing, stealing, and destroying
to
someone
else. Though we all need
rest and need to take time
to get away with our families, we must ever be on
guard against the wiles of
the devil, and we must stay
faithful in our commitment
to the Lord and in our service to the Lord's
church no matter what time
of year it might be. Perhaps these summer months
could be a time that some
who have drifted away
might choose to get back
into a Sunday School class,
or get involved in a missions project, or make a
special effort to join us on
outreach night, or get involved in our music program. There is no greater
blessing in living the
Christian life than being
directly involved in the
work of ministry, and summer can be a time we enjoy
this blessing most of all.
During the month of June,
I plan to begin a new Sunday morning sermon series
on the Old Testament book
of Daniel.
I especially
want to focus on the courage and commitment to
God exemplified by Daniel
and his faithful friends as
they faced great danger in
openly living out their
faith. There are many lessons from this book that we
can learn and apply to our
own lives today as we face
ever increasing hostility to
true Christianity and Biblical morality in our own
nation. Do your best to be
a part of this eye-opening
study of what it really
means to live godly for
Jesus in an ungodly age.

JUNE MEETINGS
The morning group of WMU,
Women on Mission, will meet on
Tuesday morning, June 14,
2016, at 10:00. As always, we
will have a wonderful brunch
before our business meeting. In
an effort to continue to get to
know Macland’s members, our

Arnsdorff. Joseph is a member
of the music ministry and sings
in the adult choir, the mens’ ensemble and is a soloist. He also
sings for weddings and special
occasions. He has just been approved to be one of our Macland
Baptist deacons. His testimony
promises to be a wonderful
blessing for all of us. Please
make plans to attend for a morning of great fellowship. Bring a
friend!
The evening group will meet on
Monday, June 13, at 6:00 in the
fellowship hall. Linda Ruth will
be our guest speaker. Linda and
Neal have been members of
MBC for many years. She is the

GOODTIMERS
The Macland senior adults, known
as the Goodtimers, enjoyed a day
of food, fun and fellowship as we
rode the bus to Blue Ridge to catch
the train to McCaysville,GA/
Copperhill,TN. We rode the 26mile round trip in an open-air car
through the hills of northeast Georgia and beside the beautiful Toccoa River. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect.
We were very pleased to have our
Pastor, Dr. Walker, and his wife,
Karen, with us!
Our next gathering will be on June
16th for Game Day. More information will be announced as the
plans are finalized.

50 YEARS OF MINISTRY
By Nancy Arrington
“Let all things be done decently
and in order” I Corinthians 14:40
If you were a visitor to Macland
Baptist Church in the late sixties
and seventies, you would be met
at the front door by Mr. Quillard
(“Slim”) Bundrum. If you were a
child you would be offered a
piece of chewing gum. “Mr.
Slim” or “Uncle Slim”, as he was
known, appeared to have a magic
coat pocket that never ran out of
gum. This tall, slender, very quiet
older man would be surrounded
by children every Sunday though
he and Mrs. Ruby had no children
of their own. On homecoming
and dinner on the ground days
both the young and the old would
be at his side to sample the refreshing lemonade he was famous
for preparing.
Installing the steeple on January
7, 1970 completed the vision of
those first members of Macland
Baptist Church. Pastor J. T.
Huckeba felt that he had fulfilled
God’s calling to lead the congregation to this point. He stepped
down and another part time Pastor
was called. Reverend Berry Henderson served as Pastor for three
years at a salary of $350.00 per
month and also worked as an executive with the BP Oil Company. Under his leadership the
church was accepted into the
Noonday Baptist Association, and
the first Sunday in December was
designated for the Lottie Moon
Christmas offering. March was
set aside for promoting Annie
Armstrong Home Missions. After

only a year as Pastor, the need for
an educational building become
apparent and a committee was
formed to draw plans and make
recommendations. Offerings received on the fourth Sunday of
each month were placed into a
building fund for this purpose.
The Macland community was still
very rural in those days, and our
church was blessed with a delightful couple who owned a small
farm about a mile west of the
church. Mr. Herman and Ms.
Thelma Thoms were brother and
sister and rode to church in a T
Model Ford. Ms. Thelma drove
and Mr. Herman turned the crank
on the outside to start the engine.
They generously shared fresh garden vegetables with everyone.
Their home place was recently torn
down and the property is being
developed. What a treasure of history they shared from their early
childhood days.
Our first full time Pastor was Reverend Harold Proctor who began
his ministry in June, 1974 at a salary of $271.15 per week. He resigned in 1976, but was instrumental in establishing a building fund
in which 10% of the entire
monthly offerings were placed. A
long range planning board was
also initiated.
Much more to come in the July
edition.

Macland Baptist Church is a family oriented, Bible believing, Bible
preaching Southern Baptist Church. We are traditional in worship
style. We offer a morning worship service at 10:30 am on Sundays,
Sunday and Wednesday evening services, and strong Sunday
School and AWANA programs. We also provide GA’s, Mission
Friends, Teamkid, and WMU to help provide missions education
and training for our children. We have weekday and weeknight ladies Bible studies and a growing number of specialized classes for
adults on Wednesday evenings in addition to our prayer service.
We offer a special midweek student worship and Bible study. We
have an active children’s program and age graded nurseries. Our
goal in providing these programs and opportunities is to train and
equip the body of Christ to do the work of the ministry and to reach
a lost world for Christ.
Our music is a mix of traditional hymns, Southern Gospel favorites, and contemporary specials. The preaching is from the New
King James Bible in expository style. We are evangelistic in our
approach and are missions minded.
