Electromobility in
the Netherlands
Highlights 2013
Companies, social institutions, knowledge centres, and national,
regional, and local governments are working together to accelerate
the growth of electric driving and to capitalise on its economic
opportunities. The number of electric vehicles in the Netherlands
has grown dramatically in the past year. The number of companies
active in the sector is also increasing. This growth in commercial
activity is particularly apparent in the areas of vehicle manufacturing (including custom-made vehicles), propulsion technology,
charging infrastructure, and services.

Economic opportunities in electromobility
A report by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency reveals that entrepreneurs are cashing in on
electric driving’s economic potential in increasing volume. Between 2010 and 2012, sector
revenue doubled, employment tripled, and exports quadrupled. Expectations remain

that American EV frontrunners look to the Netherlands when choosing a location for
pilot programmes or regional headquarters.
