The Salt Lick Cookbook: A Story of Land, Family, and Love [Hardcover]
In Texas and throughout the South, myriad barbecue joints claim the title of “best barbecue.” Many barbecue

enthusiasts would nearly fight to the death to defend their favorite, and the Salt Lick is certainly a contender.
But Salt Lick owner Scott Roberts doesn’t care about that. He’s more interested in the smiles on his customers’
faces as they leave the restaurant. With more than 600,000 customers served each year, he may be onto something.
That’s because Roberts is building on the foundation his family laid down more than 130 years ago, as his
great-grandparents made their long journey to Texas. On the trail, they prepared food and cooked meat in ways
that preserved it. Roberts keeps those techniques because they are simple and proven. His great-grandparents
settled in Driftwood in the 1870s, and his grandparents farmed the land and were sustained by its bounty. They
helped raise Roberts and instilled in him a love of the rural way of life.
This is not a book just about Salt Lick barbecue. It’s about how the barbecue came to be: a story of respect for
the land, its history, and the family that planted its roots in Driftwood and cultivated a well-deserved reputation.

The Super-Fast Thermapen
The Super-Fast Thermapen is a professional tool (originally designed for commercial kitchens, labs and manufacturing plants) that has become the top consumer cooking thermometer for home use. It’s popularity among
celebrity chefs, cooking magazines, top foodies, bloggers and competition BBQ teams have made the Thermapen into an essential tool in the best-equipped home kitchens and backyard BBQ rigs.
The Thermapen is faster and more accurate than any other cooking thermometer on the market. Competitors
have tried to copy the Thermapen with mass-produced products made in China and have flooded the housewares
market with slower, less-accurate knock-offs. However, when compared to true competing commercial thermocouple thermometers, the Thermapen is not only faster and more accurate, it’s also less expensive!
The Thermapen’s speed and accuracy will reveal more about
food and cooking techniques than you ever imagined. You’ll
learn that temperatures are always changing; a roast is never the
same temperature throughout while cooking. If you want to know
what’s really going on, get a Thermapen.
If you want to experience speed and precision (traceable to National Standards) and you’re on a quest for culinary perfection,
you will want a Thermapen. Add up the expense of wasted meats
alone and you’ll justify the cost of this professional tool.
A Thermapen can be used for virtually anything that needs to
be cooked or chilled. Use it on meats, fish, casseroles, re-heated
foods, breads, cakes, deep frying and candy. You don’t have to
have a Thermapen to be a great cook; however, more than one
celebrity chef and several food writers have testified that a Thermapen will make you a better cook...AND, you can choose your
own color! Order one today

arbecue sauces and rubs are essential to make that great barbecue complete. Here are some of our favorite
sauces and rubs that we suggest purchasing this holiday season. We are that you are going to enjoy them as
much as we do and you will want to surprise that pitmaster in your life with these great flavor profiles.
Pork Barrel BBQ Sauce and Rub
In early 2008, Pork Barrel BBQ remained as nothing more than the idea we had conceived two years earlier as
Senate staffers. This began to change in the spring of 2008 when we decided it was time to dust off our idea to
bring high quality barbecue to Washington, D.C. In June, after weeks in the test kitchen we convened the first
meeting of the Pork Barrel BBQ Kitchen Cabinet and asked our Kitchen Cabinet members to rate six variations
of what would become our initial product. After several hours of eating, Cabinet members narrowed down the
six variations to their two favorites, liking different flavor elements from each. The following week we reconvened the Kitchen Cabinet and presented to them a single product crafted with the previous weeks comments
and recommendations in mind. That Sunday afternoon in June 2008, with the blessing of the Kitchen Cabinet,
our first product – Pork Barrel BBQ’s All-American Spice Rub – was finalized and ready to take the barbecue
world by storm.
In December 2008, after months of working through the world of starting a small business, Pork Barrel BBQ
was officially founded. There were a lot of people who thought we were crazy founding Pork Barrel BBQ at the
peak of the economic crisis, but we wanted to prove that a company not owned or operated by the federal government could succeed if it was founded from a good idea by founders willing to work hard. It was our goal to
prove that the free market was still the greatest path to success for a small business and that it was still possible
to grab a piece of the “American Dream.”
Featured Barbecue Sauce and Rub 2012: Meat Mitch BBQ
Sauce and Rub
This sauce is all about the sweet and spice, it is a Kansas City Style
through and through. It is a sauce that is great on just about everything.
Meat Mitch Whomp! Competition BBQ Sauce is sweet, with a combination of brown sugar and ketchup as the primary ingredients, with a spicy
kick to it. The vanilla extract is somewhat the secret to this and not what
you would normally find in barbecue sauce. When we tasted it, you can
recognize a very subtle, sweet vanilla flavor that comes along with the
spice kick. As a competition sauce we have a lot of hopes for it as it will
definitely raise some eyebrows.
Dimples BBQ Sauce
Cuddle your tongue with Dimples BBQ Sauce, a pleasant medley of
sweet tomatoes and tangy vinegar. Dimples compliments anything you
can grill into a beautiful blend of barbecue harmony. With its smooth
texture and joyful flavor, Dimples defies all categories of smokey goodness.

accolades, as well as the respect of my peers. Baste with it, add it to soups and sauces, use it for dipping or as
a finishing glaze, dress it up or use it as is.. We are delighted to share with you what our friends & family have
been enjoying for more than a century.
Snake River Farms Wagu Meat
The beauty of Snake River Farms American Wagyu Beef is its simplicity. It has been raised from the finest
stock in the best environment for an intense and succulent beef flavor to be savored and enjoyed. This delicious
beef offers positive nutritional benefits as well. Wagyu cattle are genetically predisposed to a higher percentage
of unsaturated fat – more than any other breed. Meeting Japan’s exclusive marbling requirements means that
Snake River Farms American Wagyu Beef exceeds the quality of other U.S. beef brands. This level of distinction is possible because Snake River Farms uses only the finest stock and carefully manages every step of the
production process from start to finish. American Wagyu Beef is known as the Butter Knife Beef because you
can cut it with a butter knife. Our beef tastes wonderful. It graces your palate like a fine wine, with complex
flavors, subtle sweetness and a lingering finish.
