Bruxelles 2012 February, 19°-22° 2012 • In February, the class 4Bp went to Bruxelles for a few days. It was a wonderful experience!!! • ZZZZZ.... We left from Ronchi on February the 19th, at 8 o'clock in the morning: we were so tired!! I H , H G I H Y L F A N N A IW ! ! ! ! GH Our hotel in Bruxelles ... “Maison du Dragon” … MADE IN CHINA! First day: visit at Magritte's museum… René François Ghislain Magritte (21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967) A Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images. His work challenges observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. Some of his major works… The Magritte Museum opened to the public on 30 May 2009 in Brussels. Housed in the five-level neo-classical Hotel Altenloh, on the Place Royale, it displays some 200 original Magritte paintings, drawings and sculptures. Wondering around Bruxelles… The magic Grand Place …and for dinner... italian food at "Capannina“ nice waiter and delicious dishes!!! Second day: discovering Bruges Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canalbased northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North". Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port. At one time, it was the "chief commercial city" of the world. A lovely landscape, a rich center and…delicious sweets’ shops!! Outskirt of Bruxelles... The Atomium The Atomium is a monument in Brussels, originally built for Expo in the 1958. Designed by André Waterkeyn and Les Architectes Polak, it stands 102 metres. It has nine steel spheres connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal. Third day: Museum of Cocoa and Chocolate Belgian chocolates are rated some of the best in the world. • Belgians take chocolate making very seriously! There are thousands of varieties to choose from and endless choices to be made: Pralines,Truffles, Gianduja… And finally… the European Parliament The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU). It exercises the legislative function of the EU and it has been described as one of the most powerful legislatures in the world. The Parliament is currently composed of 754 Members, who serve the second largest democratic electorate in the world (after India) and the largest trans-national democratic electorate in the world. The Espace Léopold is the complex of parliament buildings in Brussels housing the European Parliament, a legislative chamber of the European Union (EU). The buildings are located in the European quarter in the east of Brussels, with building starting in 1989. We recommend this fantastic european city to all of you!
