CHEERS AND CHALLENGES
JACK SAYS
We’re back from another great year in Pigeon
Forge! I appreciate the support from everyone who
attended our meeting, it was good to see everyone
together. Everyone did a nice job representing their
restaurant and I am proud of our entire team. I am
especially proud of the team that remained home to take
care of business so others could attend our annual
meeting. Everyone at JRN understands that it takes an
ENTIRE team to be a real success and we could not
have attended this meeting without the support of our
team that remained behind. With hard work and a
strong bench, hopefully more of you can attend next
year!
Again, sincere thanks for all those who supported us
at home and for those who attended, I hope you had time
to relax a bit and have a good time, you deserved it!
Now it’s time to get busy with another kick ass
year!
Thanks!
Jack Hager, Regional Manager
“Hey Jack, well said.” David Neal

A RIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT
I visited store J718116 in Olney, IL. This
team showed an abundance of teamwork and
pride. There was one employee by the name of
Adam who was just awesome. Adam is cross
trained to work different positions, and that’s
exactly what he was doing. At some point I went
to the manager Terry and told her how helpful and
supportive Adam had been. She replied, “Yes, I
have a really good team that supports each other
to make sure our customers have the best
experience here at KFC.”
As I continued on with the evaluation Terry
approached me to tell me that she had told Adam
that I said he was doing such a super job. Adam
replied back to her and said, “I hope she
recognizes Tara the new team member because
she is doing a great job also.” I thought, WOW,
what an amazing team member to think about a
fellow co-worker like that and to express it. Tara
was doing a terrific job on the front counter
providing all customers with eye contact, friendly
smiles and even conversation. Thanks Adam and
Tara for being internal and external CUSTOMER
MANIACS!! Terry, thanks for casting the right
bright light onto your team.

PRAISING A STEVE
(BERLEY)
Hello Mr. David Neal,
I just wanted the opportunity to thank you
for giving us a great leader by the name of Mr.
Steve Berley. He has been a great success to the
Albany market. Always inspiring us to reach for
the stars and be goal-oriented individuals.
Throughout his leadership, we have learned
about the business and how to read and truly
understand what a P&L contains and a balance
scorecard. Berley looks out for the best interest
of his people, never giving himself credit for
anything. It feels so good to know that you are
appreciated for the little things you do. Again,
from all of us here in Albany, Cordele, and Fort
Valley we say thank you to the Neal family and
Mr. Jack Hager. May God’s richest blessings be
yours.
Cordele, GA KFC Team
Brenda, I want you to know that Steve is a
valued asset to JRN, what he does is primarily a
choice he makes, to put his people first! While

Lessons Learned
Safety Series 2007
Burns
From Letha Beaty
The seriousness of a burn is determined by:
• The depth of the burn (first-, second-, third-, or
fourth-degree).
• The size of the burn.
• The cause (thermal, electrical, chemical,
radiation, or friction).
• The part of the body where the burn occurred.
• The age and health of the burn victim.
• Other injuries.
A first-degree burn is a minor red burn of
the top layer of skin, such as a mild sunburn. The
burned skin may hurt and be slightly swollen.
There are two types of second-degree burns,
defined by their depth:
Superficial partial-thickness burns injure the
first and second layers of skin. The skin around
the burn turns white (blanches) when pressed,
then turns back to red. The burn is moist and
painful with blistering and swelling that usually
lasts for at least 48 hours.
Deep partial-thickness burns injure deeper
skin layers and are white with red areas. This kind
of burn is not painful, but it can cause a sensation
of pressure. The skin looks spotted, remains white
when pressed, may appear waxy in some areas,
and is dry or slightly moist. Possible infection is
an important concern with these burns, which
you may not notice for several days. Medical
attention should be sought ASAP!
A third-degree burn can cause severe pain.
However, if nerve endings are damaged, the burn
may not hurt right away. Third-degree burns may
look white, cherry red, or black, and they do not
change color when you press on them (they do not
blanch). Although blisters may develop, the burn
is mostly dry, hard, and leathery-looking.
A fourth-degree burn extends through
muscle, ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels,
and bone. This type of burn ALWAYS requires
medical attention ASAP.
Report all burns promptly regardless of
the degree. Any burn can result in an infection
and need Medical Treatment.

THANKS TO APRIL
On April 29, I visited KFC (Old Ft. Prkwy.)
in Murfreesboro, TN. Owner John Neal. This
team was focused on our customer’s needs. April
Preston really stood out. While sitting in the
lobby, April clocks out to take a break. She sat
down at a table across from me. Another
gentleman finishes his meal and was fixing to
leave but he passes by April and begins to have a
conversation with her. He joins her and continues
to talk about the restaurant. They talked for a
good 20 minutes. I heard April explain to him that
she loved her job and whenever a customer has a
problem, they fix it no matter what! She let him
know that she was in it for our customers. When
the gentleman gets up to leave, he approaches
Sheila (RGM) and myself and assures us he will
be back just because of April, and it was a real
pleasure getting to talk with her. What I am trying
to say is, Friendliness and Southern Hospitality
really does make a difference.

Getting away to attend a business meeting
is never easy and could not happen without the
support of your family and team members
who stayed behind to "guard the fort and take
care of customers."
I believe all of us returned home with
renewed energy to get the job done in 2007
and a better understanding of JRN; as we
reflect on our shared values of people first and
helping each other to support our mission: To
make a profit to insure the continuing growth
of JRN and every RGM and team member.
We hope to see all of you again next year
as we contemplate "How did we get here?"
David Neal, VP Operations
IN CARING COMPANY
Thank you, John R. and Operations Team,
for allowing me the opportunity to participate
in the 2007 RGM Meeting. It was very
rewarding and inspiring to see the Family
Friendly Relationships among JRN
employees. I feel very confident and
comfortable promoting your company as a
“company that cares.”
I especially enjoyed the fact that Mr. John
R. was in my first workshop at 8:00 a.m.
Tuesday morning. He participated as a
student, there to learn, as well as a presenter.
Interactive and hands on workshops are the
way to go. I know you have heard it, but it is
true “people don’t care how much you know
until they know how much you care.” I look
forward to learning more about the company
and seeing all of you again next year.
