CONNECTION Vol. 9 No. 1 January 2006 IT’S ABOUT (THAT) TIME Photos from last year’s meeting. We are really excited about our RGM meeting at Music Road in Pigeon Forge, March 20-23. The theme this year is “It’s about us…and it’s about time.” We will be featuring JRN’s managers and their contributions to KFC for 35 years beginning in 1970. In addition, there will be interactive workshops, free time, awards, presentations, celebrations, recognitions, and special entertainment. I hope you will consider participating again this year. Please pass along any thoughts and ideas you might have about this year’s meeting. Also, RM’s will be receiving a spreadsheet in the next few days for the room reservations. 2005 has been a great year and now it’s time to celebrate because… “It’s about us…and it’s about time.” Sincerely, David Neal, Vice-President, Operations MADE MARION To: Brenda Sorah, Manager Congratulations on the opening of your new Taco Bell-Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in the Town of Marion. I am very pleased to have you and your staff as a vital part of our business community. I wish for you the very best for many years in your new location. If I may be of help, feel free to contact me. Sincerely, David P. Helms, Mayor, Town of Marion, VA For those who helped in the enormously successful opening in Marion, VA, thanks for all the record setting numbers, for the rest of us, a look at what that team accomplished! First seven days: Six of those days over $10,000, including the JRN all time record day of $12,205 on Friday, Dec 30. We have also experienced great openings at Lebanon, VA, Woodruff Road Greenville, SC, Hayes VA, and Weaverville, NC. We are looking forward to the imminent openings at Gloucester Courthouse, VA and Gallatin, TN and the reopening after the fire at Concord Parkade sometime in February. Dick Moore, Chief Financial Officer, JRN Music Road Hotel and Inn Pigeon Forge, TN Marion, VA rebuilt as a KFC/Taco Bell. JRN CONNECTION January 2006 Vol. 9, No. 1 2 SANTA PAUSE IN ATOKA Atoka, TN crew from left to right: Dollette Moore, Cassie Cullum, Andrea Caldwell, Samantha Stiefel, Angelica Wolford and on Santa’s lap Sharon Vallieu. CHRISTMAS IN SHELBYVILLE No Springfielders Invited This was our Christmas Party at KFC in Shelbyville, TN (above and right). A few were missing, but it is always good to get together for a few laughs. Mary Elkins and Crew, Shelbyville, TN On December 17 Santa arrived at our KFC/Taco Bell in Atoka, TN. He came with a big smile and all his reindeer. Helpers greeted all the boys and girls who came to visit. We had approximately 50 kids come to visit between 1 and 3 pm, who all left with a smile, candy and a picture with Santa. Santa looked so real (above) he fooled his own granddaughter and she never knew her “paw-paw” was really Santa. Elizabeth is my granddaughter on Santa’s lap, and Santa is my step-dad John. He went out on the street and waved and we had a great turn out. It was a real fun day for everyone, thanks. Rhonda in Atoka, TN L to R: Mary Elkins, RGM Shelbyville, TN, Lee Stewart, Christy Reese. JRN CONNECTION January 2006 Vol. 9, No. 1 HERE’S TO YOU, MRS. ROBISON 3 LORDY, LORDY, LOOK WHO’S 40! Celebrating the big 4 0 in February! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GREG PARTIN! Your team in Nicholasville, KY salutes you! Area Manager Ramona Robison is a proud Grandmother!! My son PFC Christopher Robison and his wife Jamie had a beautiful baby girl on Dec. 30th at 3:23 pm. She weighed 7 lbs 9 ozs and was 21 inches long. Her name is Arwen Eva Robison. She stole my heart at first sight. Ramona Robison, Area Manager CLEMENTINE’S DARLING Congratulations to Clementine Bond, RGM at Vann Drive in Jackson TN on the arrival of Kenneth Devon Deberry Jr. her newest grandbaby to spoil. I can see he has your smile which is a good thing. Wendell Teague, Area Manager CHRISTMAS MEMORIAL My name is Mary Norman, and I work for JRN and this is the first Christmas in our store (Memorial Blvd. Murfreesboro, TN), our first Christmas tree and decorations. I have been with KFC since 8/4/03. I started on Church St. in Murfreesboro before this store was opened. These three managers are the best we have ever had: Jimmy Wilson, Wanda Bange, and Phonh Senaphan. If it was not for these managers we would not have had a Christmas. I just want them to know how much I love working with them. I really do love working at KFC. I love working with the public and meeting new people. I am from Georgia and I came here to start a new life. Mary Norman, FSW, Memorial Blvd. Murfreesboro, TN KFC JRN CONNECTION January 2006 Vol. 9, No. 1 A dine-in guest of the Terre Haute, IN #1 KFC says that the food is excellent. He ordered the 10 piece Original Recipe meal with mashed potatoes, slaw and macaroni and cheese. Also at the same Terre Haute store, a dine-in customer says that Jon is very enthusiastic and helpful. He says that Jon continuously checked on his party during his visit and made sure everything was perfect. The restrooms are particularly clean and wellstocked in the Vinton, VA store, according to a dine-in customer. And Chevy and Denise, both employees at the Vinton store, are wonderful and provide excellent customer service, says another customer. Service is great and the food is delicious at the Scottsville Rd., Bowling Green, KY restaurant, says a dine-in customer. He suggests that a unit should be opened in Columbia, KY. Teresa, a cashier at the Woodruff, SC store, is extremely friendly and efficient, and gives great customer service, says a drive-thru customer. A dine-in guest at the West Frankfort, IL restaurant says she is impressed with the service there. Also at West Frankfort, a customer says the store is always clean, the buffet always stocked and the employees are always friendly. “I have been to this location many, many times since moving to Nicholasville in 1998,” writes a drive-thru customer of the Nicholasville, KY KFC. “But my experience this past Friday has got to be the most memorable, wonderful service that I have ever received-anywhere! The young lady that took my order in the drive thru was very friendly and cheerful even though the store was very busy. I had to wait a couple minutes at the window and got to see what teamwork truly looks like. “Everyone was working together and to see them, I would have never known they were that busy. Everyone-including the manager- had their own job to do and was more than getting it done. “This time of the year, businesses are in such a hurry to get you in and out that they loose the personal relationship with their customers but this store has found a way to do what they need to and 4 make the customer feel like they are the only one. “When the food & service is so outstandingly wonderful, it just doesn’t get any better and other businesses need to watch this team and see how it should be done. Please send my many, many thanks to the managers and staff on doing such a wonderful job. I look forward to many more visits!!” Jonathon, a cashier at the Wards Rd. Lynchburg, VA store, gives outstanding, friendly and fast customer service, says a drivethru customer. A drive-thru customer at the same Wards Rd. KFC says she thinks the manager there is great. A dine-in guest at the Martin, TN KFC says he witnessed another customer at the location become very belligerent and the crew members and manager handled the situation very professionally. He feels the crew, and the manager, Debbie, should be commended for their level of professionalism. At the Humboldt, TN store a carry-out customer says the chicken, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes are delicious. The food is great at the London, KY restaurant, says a drive-thru customer. She says that the original recipe chicken and coleslaw both taste good. A dine-in customer of the Memorial Blvd. Murfreesboro, TN KFC says the service is very good and the food is hot and fresh. She says the unit is clean and the manager and employees are very happy and friendly. Service is great and fresh at the same Memorial Blvd. store, according to a dine-in customer who also says the staff is polite and courteous. A dine-in customer at the Skyland, Asheville, NC restaurant writes, “100% improved since my last visit. Thanks, Bill Parker. It will be worth the trip to visit again. Whatever problems this store had, they seem to be corrected. Thanks, again.” More Customer Commendations on Page 6 JRN CONNECTION January 2006 Vol. 9, No. 1 5 AN AULD ACQUAINTANCE’S $1,000,000 GOOD-BYE I have to brag a little on Ed, Chris, and the entire team at the Lebanon, TN KFC store. Ed (Ruth, RGM) has been working towards the goal of $1000,000 for six years. They have an old KFC store, but that wasn't going to stop him. So they focused on quick, friendly service and great product. It paid off. At about 2 P.M. on New Year's Eve, the Lebanon KFC store realized their goal. However, Ed has told me if he doesn't get a new store soon, he is going to have to retire and set up a hot dog stand. It was my pleasure to have worked with all of you in Lebanon. Loretta Fleming, Area Manager Loretta is trading Lebanon and Gallatin for Bardstown and Glasgow. Future site of the New Seymour KFC with Buffet. Address of the site is 11517 Chapman Highway, Seymour TN 37865 “AND YOU ARE?” CHICKEN DOODLE SOUP These napkin drawings are from a customer at the Harrisburg, IL KFC. He leaves one every week, sometimes twice a week. He gave me permission to send them to you if you would like to print them. We all get a laugh. He is a special customer. His name is Denny Steed. Val Mitchell, RGM Harrisburg, IL The lady pictured above is this month’s “mystery” JRN employee. Can you guess who she is? Mail or email your guesses to: JRN Connection Attn: Allen Underwood P.O. Box 1257 Columbia, TN 38402 [email protected] Last month’s mystery employee (pictured left) was Wally Hebert, VP of Marketing. Only one person guessed correctly, Frankie Bostick, Wally’s assistant. Was it because of the shape of his head, or that the photo looks like he standing on top of a chicken that made it hard to figure out? JRN CONNECTION January 2006 Vol. 9, No. 1 6 TH WOODRUFF 4 AND GOLD MORE CUSTOMER COMMENDATIONS The buffet is always stocked and the employees always friendly at the West Frankfort, IL KFC, says a customer. “I am writing to let you know of the friendly service we received on the above date,” writes a drive-thru customer at the Robinson, IL restaurant. “My sons both ordered boneless wings and we had to wait just a few minutes. We were offered drinks because of our wait. We were very impressed. That is the first time that has happened anywhere. Also on the same evening, my sister stopped in at the same store. She said they received very good service as well. The employees were very nice and asked how they were doing. The food was very good too. It just seems it isn't that often you receive such good service anymore. I just wanted to pass this along as you probably usually hear only complaints.” Lona, an employee at the Bardstown, KY store, provides outstanding service, according to a carry-out customer. He adds that she is very friendly and attentive. At the Fort Valley, GA KFC Devon exhibits great customer service skills, says a carry-out customer. He also says that the food is great. A drive-thru customer at the London, KY store says the food is great there too. She says the Original Recipe chicken and coleslaw both taste good. The manager Jason, at the Hamburg, Lexington, KY restaurant, is very nice and helpful, says a drive-thru customer. A dine-in customer at the newly rebuilt Weaverville, NC KFC says the service is wonderful, and the building is very beautiful. Brenda, manager at the Cave City, KY store, is very friendly, says a dine-in customer. She also says that Brenda received her order Continued in next column Hello Team, Please join me in a huge CHAMPS Cheer for store #J718178 located in Woodruff, S.C. This team is an asset and I would like to thank them for what they do each and every day!! You guys are great!! Teresa Mills Champs and Recognition Specialist North/South Carolina Commendations Continued from 1st column correctly and the food was fresh. And, she says, the location is very clean. “Name on receipt was Shamiska...name on tag was Missy,” writes a dine-in customer of the Richmond Rd. Lexington, KY store. “Missy needs to be recognized for providing customer service above and beyond my expectations.
