November-December
Welcome Dennis!
by Brett Neal, Chief Operations Officer JRN Inc
It is hard to imagine that the Holidays are upon us
once again It seems time just flies, especially when
,
there is so much happening and such excitement in the
business and world of Kentucky Fried Chicken! JRN's
Brand Measures are improving, Re-Colonelization is in
full swing and gaining momentum, costs are getting
better and sales are on the incline. That, my friends, is
the formula, or "Original Recipe" if you will, for success
going into 2016! I thank you all for the hard work
iifigEnce and conscientioirrr.rs you put forth .rdi and
every day as we continue our impassioned campaign of
making Kentucky Fried Chicken the premier dining
choice for our customers across the Southeast.
As everyone certainly knows, the position of
Regional Manager for East Tennessee, Western
Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina was
held by the legendary Rodney Shaw who stepped down
in September. Rodney gave forty five years of dedicated
service to JRN, Kentucky Fried Chicker, the Brand as a
whole and all those who worked with him. It is an
understatement in the highest order to say whomever
takes the position vacated by Rodney Shaw has a yery,
very hard actto follow. Rodney Shaw has always
represented the best in JRN through his unwavering
commitment to excellence. Rodney's consummate
personal obligation to honesty, integrity and distinction
is without equal.
I write you once againto let you know of another
exceptional promotion at JRN and ask that everyone join
me in congratulating and welcoming JRN's new Region
Director for the East Tennessee, Western Virginia, North
Carolina and South Carolina markets. The new Region
Director began his career with JRN in 1988 as a cook at
the Radford, Virginia KFC restaurarrt. Short thereafter
(1989), he transferred to the Brambleton Road KFC in
Roanoke, Virginia as the Assistarfi Manager. Having
passed the robust and spirited scrutiny of another
legendary Regional Manager, Buford 'oSarge" Greene,

Duran was eager to

told me during his interview thathe would show me that
he was a strong leader and he has done just that. Duran
has over 15 years of management experience, including
several years with KFC. Duran's strength is his passion
to train and invest in his people. I have yet to visit the
store and not observe him coaching and recognizinghis
team. He is truly creating a "Winning" culture in his
store. I am proud to have him on my team.

this young man became the Restaurant General Manager
at the Tanglewood KFC store in Roanoke, Virginia
(1991). At the time of his promotion to Restaurant
General Manager, he committed to both Sarge Greene
and Jack Hager that he would be "the best store
manager they had and he would not let them down."
True to his word, that was exactly what transpired. In
1998 this fine young man was promoted, once again, to
Area Manager for the Roanoke, Virginia market. By
now most of you know I am speaking about our good
friend Marty WalMn every single position along the
w&y, Marty enjoyed leadership, guidance, mentoring and
direction from Jack Hager. That is, unquestionably,
among the finest professional educations one could ever
hope to receive. It is with ffiy, David, Tyrone and
everyone at JRN, including Jack's, full confidence and
support that Marty accepted the position of Region
Director.
Marty is a preeminent operator, steadfastly dedicated
first and foremost to his Team and their success, who
genuinely understands that the definitive and genuine
strength of JRN is in its people. He is a remarkable
coach and outstanding trainer who exemplifies what it
means to be an ambassador to JRN and Kentucky Fried
Chicken. Throughout his lifelong career at JRN, Marty
has always understood the paramount importance of
accepti"g resp{nsibil ity, leading by .Tample and
recognizing all achievements. Professional in demeanor,
structured in methodology, diligent in thought and kind
in nature, Marty is an exceptional addition to JRN's
akeady exceptional lineup of Region Directors. Marty
will be relocating to Ashville, North Carolina.
Congrattlations Marty, and welcome to JRN's Region
Director Team!

Coloneling for the Cause
We donated items to the local American Cancer
society through the Y-12 Federal Credit llnion. The
bank manager had previously decided to dress up as
Colonel Sanders (since they eat here ) ... so I had
asked to shoot us some photos of the outcome so we
could send them in to you. He looks pretty close
doesn't he? I think they did an outstanding job, ,, arud
had a great outcome.

Way" Back is Easy
This fall KFC embarked on a national focus to reinforce
everyone's commitment to prepare and serve our flagship
product, Original Recipe chicken, the Colonel's way. The
effort, of course, is "Re-Colonelizatton." As of Friday,
December 4, each and every JRN restaurant has been certified
as "Re-Colonelized!" This means that all, yes ALL, of our
restaurants have 100% completed Chicken Mastery, understand
and follow Oil and Equipment Management, have verified SET
points for all fryers and have converted to the new 2 hour hold
time. What an amazing feat! I thank everyone for the hard
work, dedication and determination we showed together as a
team to realize a job very well done.
As we move into 2016,Ilook forward to an unprecedented
year of achievements and successes which will be accomplished
the only way the JRN Team knows, and that is The Hard Way!
Brett Neal, Chief Operations Officer, JRNI Inc.
Tyrone Neal, President JRN Inc.,

RECOLONELIZATION is "Back
to Basics." Focus on doing things the
right wdy, or, as the Colonel said, "The
Hard Way." Saturday,Nov 21, was ReColonelization day at many stores.

She asked how I was doing and I said I was
feeling under the weather. She then said she hoped I
feel better soon. It helps because I'm not from the

Jacob R in Drive Thru. Too many times I have
experienced drive thru employees who don't smile or
create a welcoming atmosphere. They just want to
move the cars through like cattle. But Jacob R greeted
me with a genuine smile, friendly attitude and you
could tell he was happy to take my order and give me
my order. He took the iime to reiterate what my order

Liszbeth recognizedus and welcomed us back
with a big smile. We were treated as if we were the
only customers in the restaurarrt. She stated that if
there was anything else we needed to come and see
her. I said as long as there is chicken and dumplings
and the cobbler I will be fine!!!!!! She laughed and
said we have more in the back if that's not enough. I
smiled. I asked her if the chicken and dumpling
were canned and she said no that "momma" (pointed
to a co-worker)makes it from scratch. Liszbethwent
above and beyond our expectations of service.

asked. Connie was very friendly and her smile goes

Nice job, Connie. Sometimes it is the little
things we do that will keep customer coming back

First of all, it takes a team, not only one, to
make a difference in the service. However Donna

liked it warm. She smiled and just wanted me to be
satisfied.
