It was a rousing success! We had our largest attendance ever with 226 paid guests and over $32,000 in prizes. From the initial feedback it appears that everyone had a great time. While the final accounting isn’t complete, it looks like we raised slightly below $30,000 and after expenses will net around $15,000. This money will go a long way towards providing the funds we need for activities for the upcoming year. This could not have happened without the support of those who attended, our sponsors and those individuals and businesses that made cash or merchandise donations. As usual the food and service at Chandlers was great. I encourage you to consider them if you are holding an event in the future. A special thank you goes out to the board and other club members that helped pull this together. They worked hard and it showed in the success we had. Dan Koniewicz did a great job as Master of Ceremonies by keeping things moving and entertaining. As a side bar we presented an award to Jim Ziebka for his thirteen years of service to the FRV chapter. We also raised $916 for One Hope United and $300 for Take A Vet Fishing. Planning is already underway for next year’s event so mark your calendars for March 18, 2017 as the tentative date for next year’s event. More good news is that we received notification from the Hugh Becker Foundation that we will be receiving a grant totaling $5,000 of which half is to be used for stocking and the other half for IDNR equipment needs. April is here and we have only two more monthly meetings before we break for the summer. Our April speaker will be Captain Matt Firestein speaking on Lake St. Clair. May will feature Bill Bennett talking about Indiana muskies. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month with a buffet starting at 6:00 PM and meetings starting at 7:00 PM. Come ad check us out before you head out for your summer Muskie hunts. Our next big event is the one day “Challunge of the Chain” Tournament to be held on Saturday, May 14th on the Fox Chain. Entries are $200 per two man team and cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. After the event, we will present trophies to the winners, have some dinner and raffle off some great prizes. For information see the flyer in this newsletter or contact Dan Koniewicz at [email protected] We have multiple events and outings planned for this summer and fall including a Saturday on the water get together on the Fox Chain in the mornings in June, July and August. The newsletter and website will contain the details. We hope you can join us. I encourage you to invite your Muskie fishing friends and families to our meetings and to join Muskies, Inc. and our Chapter. Membership is only $35 a year and I think that those who actively participate in our meetings and events will say it is worth it. We cannot succeed without a strong and active membership base. See you at April’s meeting. Until next month be well. Steve Kroll PAGE FRV MUSKIES INC. 2 GENERAL MEETINGS 7:00 PM @ SCHAUMBURG GOLF CLUB/CHANDLER’S CHOPHOUSE 401 N. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, IL. Hope to see you there! Musky Tales update! With the ice off we want to get the word out of our continued efforts to become a local destination for fishing and outdoor enthusiasts. We begin with a soon to be improved boat launch at our Channel Lake location. The high water level kept the repairs from being done before the ice came on. The plan is to have this done still before season opens. Annual launch passes are $125 for club members ($150 for non) and can be purchased in store or by calling Kurt @ (847)456-9806. Annual launch pass holders also get 10% discount on tackle, bait and food at our new location. As many of you may already know we also have taken down the vacant building on the property. Improvements of all sorts will be done to make the best use of the land but this will require quite a bit of time and resources so please be patient. More immediate impact is our newly acquired property most recently know as Lake Marie Lodge. First, you have a bathroom to finally use but more importantly a place to get tackle , live bait and food. Our retail store will be opening again in March along with our website. The food business will be known as Time 2 Bite and located in the bar area of the building. With that said we plan to obtain our liquor license in the months ahead as well. Our menu will evolve but will be breakfast and lunch options. Our intent is not to be a new restaurant or bar in town but rather a business model built to bring our customer base more. We now also have 20 seasonal slips (in channel behind Webbs Marina) for rent along with room for boat storage, services and events. Lastly, we have the property (formerly known as Sorensen’s Bait Shop) and hope to make that a rental cabin for guide clients, tournament participants or weekend warriors too far for commute. Please make the time to stop in as you venture out this season! WWW.FRVMUSKIE.COM FRV MUSKIES INC. PAGE 5 FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CIRCLE… Dear Members, The weather has been surprisingly mild, if this trend continues we might have an early spring. Most Fishing Licenses expire on March 31st. Now is the time to renew your fishing licenses before they expire and speaking of renewing fishing licenses, the State of Illinois is no longer mailing vehicle license plate renewal applications. Take a look at your expiration date you might be due! It might also be time to renew your FRV membership! Currently 28 memberships will expire by the end of April. We need your continued support as a member in good-standing. You are vital to health of the chapter and just as important; we need your attendance at the monthly meeting. The folks at FRV do value your participation, so please come to the meetings, get away from the TV get those gray cells working not lapsing. Sign-up for one of the Club’s sponsored trips. They are fun! You never know, you might catch a 50 incher! All members are welcome to join us at the next Board Meeting at Cabela’s. Meetings are held in one of their meeting rooms on the upper level; the Wednesday following the normal monthly meeting. Sit-in, ask questions, feel free to contribute to the discussions, become a board member, help shape the future of our Chapter. Remember you are the life blood of the chapter. Below is a list of expiring memberships, if you have already renewed thank you. Behrends, Todd Berg, Duffy, Erkenswick, Gallagher, Hanifl, Hegner, Hoerich, Jaras, Koniewicz, Kyle, Koss, Lamkin, Latoza, Latoza, Minor (Court Jester), Murphy, Nowak, Petrone, Rosegay, Sass, Trattner, VanDoorn, If your name appears on this list, see me at the next meeting to renew and receive a free Spinner Bait. Thanks Again, F rank Lucido Membership Director IMA REPORT The winter, quarterly meeting was held Feb., 28th at Bass Pro Shop in Bolingbrook. A letter of thanks from Denny Sands of the Shabbona Sportsman Club thanking the IMA and member clubs for helping repair the retention fencing below the dam was introduced. FRV contributed $1,500 to this project. DNR has finalized its wish list for this year. The total amount now including 5 trap nets is $10,555. In order of priority they are seeking the 2nd trailer to haul fish ($4,000), PIT tags and guns for 3 biologists ($4,055) and the trap nets ($2,500). The state cannot fund these projects. As of this writing, other IL muskie clubs have pledged $2,750. FRV, the largest club in IL, has budgeted $3,500 towards 2016 projects. This is in addition to $5,000 for stocking. FRV's Board is considering the amount to be contributed toward these DNR projects. DNR has also requested help in upgrading its booth at sport shows. Locally, it exhibits at the Chicago Muskie Expo, the Schaumburg and Tinley Park fishing shows. Dan Lamkin, FRV's Show Director has volunteered to help redesign their booth. Creel Survey - The 2015 muskie creel survey shows 601 fish were registered. The benefits to the IL muskie program of reporting every muskie caught regardless of size are substantial in helping the biologists plan and manage our fishery. Muskie fishing in IL has never been better because of the emphasis DNR has been giving to the muskie program. Want more and better muskie in IL? Report your catches. This is in addition to reporting to the MI Lunge Log were your report of 30"+ fish contributes to this vast storehouse of individual lake statistics that we each can use every day. You can report to the DNR at ifishillinois.org or by filling out and mailing in a green card. Reports to MI's Lunge Log are made at muskiesinc.org or thru the link on FRV's web site www.frvmuskie.com Respectfully submitted , IMA Delegates WWW.FRVMUSKIE.COM PAGE 6 FRV MUSKIES INC. 2016 Summer Youth Activities Hoffman Estates Kids Fishing Derby - June 4 One Hope United Boys Fishing Outing - June 11 Bartlett Youth Fishing Derby - August 6 YCA Youth Muskie Weekend - September 21-24 Hoffman Estates Kids Derby On June 4, 2016 from 9am-1pm, South Ridge Lake, Freeman and Mumford Roads, Hoffman Estates. The commitment from you requires a ½ day of guiding expertise and patience. This is one of our "feel good" outings of the year. Many of these foster kids have never been in a boat, let alone had a "father figure" around to teach them anything about the outdoors or fishing. Right now, we need FRV members who are willing to share their fishing knowledge with ~20 kids and their chaperons who are all OHU staff members. When pledging your support we also need to know if your are able to bring a boat and if so, the number of fishermen your boat can comfortably handle. Bartlett Youth Fishing Derby Rain or Shine!
