SHIRAZ / VIOGNIER
This innovative blend of red Shiraz grapes and white Viognier grapes
has become a favourite of Aussie wine lovers. While the name suggests
a traditional blend, this wine is actually produced by co-fermentaion, to
preserve the brightness of the red pigments and enhance the flavour.
Our Shiraz / Viognier is vibrant and fruit forward with aromas of cherry,
orange blossom, and a hint of honey, leading to luscious blackberry
characters on the palate.
This medium bodied red is perfect for sipping with friends.
SAUVIGNON BLANC / SEMILLON
Originally a French blend, this refreshing white wine has become one
of Australia’s most popular wines. Pale straw in colour, this wine has an
intense nose of passionfruit, peach, and lime, layered with a pleasant
grassiness.
Expansive flavours of pink grapefruit, lemongrass and snow pea on the
palate are balanced by just the right level of firm acidity to finish.
Refreshing and crisp, this is a great wine for everyday sipping.

Understanding “Terroir” (tare-wah)
You may have heard the word “terroir” being discussed
in many wine circles, but what does it actually mean?
different regions within a country, and even different
areas of the same vineyard.
The root of the word ‘terroir’ is ‘terre’ – French for ‘land’
or ‘earth’. Terroir denotes the special characteristics that
a combination of factors contribute to making a wine
from a particular place unique.
Wine Kitz sources our juices from a number of well
known grape growing countries, including California,
Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy, all of which
have their own unique terroir. Many of our Limited
Release wines have come from other prominent grape
growing countries and regions such as South Africa,
Argentina, Washington State, Oregon, Spain, and
Austria to name a few.
The factors that make up the terroir of a specific location
are soil type, topography, and climate, all of which impart
their own unique quality and characteristics to grapes
grown in that region. The basic idea is that if you took
the same grape variety, followed the same growing and
winemaking practices in a different location, it would
never taste quite the same. Terroir is the reason that
Chardonnay wines from Burgundy are different from
Chardonnay wines from California.
You can find varying terroirs between different countries,
The unique terroir of these countries and regions will
create wines with different characteristics, even when
made from the same grape varietal.
So don’t be afraid to explore the unique characteristics
of the many wines available to you from all over the
world right at home at your local Wine Kitz Retailer.

FUN WINE FACTS
•
There are approximately 20 million acres of grapes planted around the
world making grapes the world’s number one fruit crop.
•
There are over 10,000 varieties and sub-varieties of wine grapes in the
world.
•
One ton of grapes makes about 60 cases of wine, or 720 bottles. One
bottle of wine contains about 2.8 pounds of grapes.
•
Grapes are the only fruit that is capable of producing the proper nutrition
for the yeast on its skin and sugar in its juice to ferment naturally.
•
A crop of newly planted grape vines takes four to five years to grow
before it can be harvested.
•
Darker shades of wine (the deepest, blackest reds and the most golden
whites) usually come from warm climates. Lighter colors, especially in
white wines, come from cooler climates and are less lush.
•
There are about 400 species of oak, though only about 20 are used in
making oak barrels. Of the trees that are used, only 5% are suitable for
making high grade wine barrels. The average age of a French oak tree
harvested for use in wine barrels is 170 years!
•
The wreck of the TITANIC holds the oldest wine cellar in the world and
despite the depth and wreckage, the bottles are still intact.
•
The longest recorded champagne cork flight was 177 feet and 9 inches,
four feet from level ground at Woodbury Vineyards in New York State.
