Visit Roseburg
FRONT COVER Welcome to Roseburg. Roseburg is the heart of the scenic and recreational paradise known as the Land of Umpqua. Within our Southern Oregon community, or just minutes away, you’ll have access to an array of activities to make your trip a memorable one. Stroll through our historic downtown, with unique shops and galleries and outstanding brewpubs and restaurants, or venture out into the surrounding wine country, one of Oregon’s fastest growing. Begin your adventure at the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION ATTRACTIONS The Roseburg Blast Tour Travel back to more than 50 years in less than two hours. It was a hot August evening when a driver parked his truck filled with explosives in downtown Roseburg and retired to a nearby hotel to rest. The rest is history- in the Roseburg area at least. The Blast of 1959 changed the landscape of Roseburg’s charming downtown district, leveling several city blocks and killing 14 people. Go to VisitRoseburg.com and look for the Roseburg Blast icon at the bottom of the home page. Click the link and start walking back through time. Smart phone or mobile device needed. Covered Bridges In the 1930’s there were over 300 covered bridges in Oregon. Today, there are 51, the largest concentration in the western United States. Timber, used to construct bridges, was an easily accessible building material. It was discovered, however, that if they were covered, the life of the bridge was greatly increased and thus required very little maintenance. INDEX 1. Cavitt Creek Built: 1943 2.
