the wigs.
the prosecution in a case involving the sale of a car and a
verbal contract. The competition was extremely close with only
10 points, out of a potential 300, separating Lambton High
School from HSPA.

It is a brave thing to do and Ida raised over $800 for this
worthy cause. More information about the program can be

MODEL UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY (MUNA)
Lachlan Bray and Toby Schmieden did a fantastic job as
barristers, supported by their solicitor Angela Domingues.
Ruby Maughan and Jackson Price spoke confidently as
witnesses and maintained their composure under the pressure
of cross-examination. Brodie McNaughton effectively
maintained court order as court officer. The group has shown
excellent team work skills and have enjoyed the challenge of
putting their legal knowledge into practice.
Maya Al Maraee and Ruby Maughan (Year 11) proudly
represented Lambton High School as Iraq at MUNA last
weekend. The event was again a huge success with 18 teams
from 13 schools debating resolutions that had been framed on
current world events, replicating the General Assembly of the
United Nations. In preparation for the event, Maya and Ruby
were required to research the history of Iraq and anticipate
how Iraq would vote on 16 resolutions, such as the rights of
indigenous peoples and the situation of human rights in the
Syrian Arab Republic. Ruby and Maya looked stunning in
traditional Iraqi attire and spoke confidently and diplomatically
as they voted on the various resolutions.
Lambton High School was able to attend due to the generous
sponsorship of the Newcastle Sunrise Rotary Club. The
special efforts of the Rotary Club of Muswellbrook in the
organisation of the venue, the MUNA dinner on Friday 20 May
and the luncheon on MUNA day were greatly appreciated by
all.

MOCK TRIAL
Brodie McNaughton, Lachlan Bray, Jackson Price, Toby
Schmieden, Angela Domingues and Ruby Maughan from Year
11 Legal Studies have participated in three rounds of the Law
Society NSW Mock Trial competition. The Mock Trial provides
students with valuable real-world court room experience
adjudicated by a local solicitor. Round three conducted on the
19 May involved a civil case, in which Lambton High
represented the defence and Hunter School of Performing Arts
Mrs Corliss, Head Teacher HSIE
Congratulations to our open tennis teams for their efforts on 17
May 2016. The girls are Hunter Region champions and the
nd
boys placed 2 . It is the first time in 15 years that both teams
made the finals. Thank you to Mr Lorang for managing the
teams.

REPRESENTATIVE SPORT
PRIVATE TUTORS OR COACHES
Parents or carers who engage the services of a private tutor or
coach have an important role to play in helping to keep their
children safe.
From 1 April 2016 adults who provide private tuition or
coaching services to children will need to obtain a new
Working With Children Check.

Hunter PSSA Touch Referee: Hugh Fitter
Thank you to Sophie Carson, Reardon Davies, Anita
Schwarzer and Dewmi De Silva for their efforts to gain
sponsorship from the local community for Green Day.
TRIAL HSC INFORMATION
Students were provided with the Trial HSC Timetable and
Procedures documents this past week. Extensive support is
available to students. This ranges from study guides and
templates through to tutorial and lectures both at school and
the University of Newcastle. The school also provides for
teaching staff to be available in the Senior Study who
specialise in supporting individual HSC students.



The information distributed to students is available on the
school Moodle course "Senior Study Years 10, 11, 12". It
is also attached to a daily notice for Monday 30 May.
Tutorials that are held at school are voluntarily conducted
by our teachers and are free of charge to students.
Lectures at the University of Newcastle are conducted by
an external organisation. The school has negotiated a
special discount rate for students attending these lectures
of $20 per session provided students pay at school by
Friday 10 June (end of Week 7). Payment slips
are available in the Senior Study.
YEAR 10-11 SUBJECTSELECTION FOR 2017
Students in Year 10 were provided with Subject Selection
Booklets providing information on the HSC and courses
available at Lambton High School this past week. All parents
and caregivers of Year 10 students are invited to attend an
information evening in the MPC on Wednesday 15 June
2016 commencing at 6.00 pm. The meeting is to provide
information on the Preliminary HSC (Year 11) and the HSC
(Year 12).
Students will be asked to elect their patterns of study by 21
June 2016 so this is an important opportunity for you to review
and clarify information on patterns of study and the
requirements and procedures of the HSC. To further support
your student in making appropriate decisions about their senior
education a meeting will be scheduled with a Head Teacher for
you and your student on Tuesday 21 June during school
hours. Digital copies of the booklet are available on the Moodle
course "Senior Study Years 10, 11, 12".
The Certificate for Self Employed People will no longer be valid
after their expiry date and the certificate holders will need to
apply for a new Working With Children Check.
Parents or carers should ask their child’s tutor or coach for
their name, date of birth and their Working With Children
Check number.
They must then go online and verify the tutor or coach is not
barred from working with children in NSW.
Verifying that a tutor or coach can work with children is quick
and
easy.
Just
follow
the
simple
steps
at:
www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/parentscheckthecheck
If you suspect that an adult is providing services to children
without a Working With Children Check you can go online to
make a confidential report or phone (02) 9286 7219.

SCHOOL INTERNET ACCESS CHANGES
The week after
From Wednesday 1 June there will be slight differences in the

students:


may have to reconnect to the WiFi at school.

may have to change proxy settings.
The instructions to make these changes has been sent to their
school email. Obviously this email should be accessed and
that instructions attached should be saved to your
