FROM SYLVAN
winter
As many of you know, we moved our operations last year to a larger space, with
the goal of improving our efficiency and expanding services to our clients.
I am pleased to introduce our newest addition, The Wood Shop at Sylvan
Stoltzfus Builders. SSB has built doors and cupolas for quite some time, but now
we can produce large, specialty and one-of-a-kind features -- such as doors,
windows, trim, decorative elements or functional items -- right here where we
do business.
Looking for something special to complement your building project? Browse
through our online portfolio at www.stoltzfusbuilders.com, then bring your ideas
to us. Our skilled craftsmen at The Wood Shop can build it for you.
If you are attending this year’s Horse World Expo, either in Maryland or
Pennsylvania, please stop by our booths and say hello. It’s always a pleasure to
reconnect.

A BARN REBUILT
old structures & old materials
Paul Allebach, residential real estate
developer and property manager, has
a keen eye for new opportunities and a
passion for interesting projects.
Paul’s current construction challenge
centers on a two-hundred-year-old
Montgomery County farmstead in
Harleysville, Pennsylvania. The barn there
was beginning to lean. Its beautiful stone
foundation was solid, and the massive
frame was in remarkably good condition.
What Paul needed was a contractor
with experience working on old structures
such as this.
After checking the internet for barn
restoration specialists, Paul narrowed his
list to three contractors, one of which was
Sylvan Stoltzfus Builders.
“I met with Sylvan and we hit it off right
away. It was a comfortable connection,
our communication was good, and I felt he
would do the best job.”
SSB saw exactly what was needed. The
two-level barn was stripped down to its
frame, squared up, then rebuilt. The horse
stalls on the ground level were removed.
The floor overhead was reinforced with
additional matching timbers salvaged from
another old barn. A lean-to addition on the
outside was removed and replaced with a
new heated workshop that looks as if it’s
been there forever.
“This is the most interesting project I’ve
ever taken on. I really enjoy working
with old structures and materials. It’s
amazing to see an old building take on
new life.” Paul states.
“But I just can’t say enough about SSB and
the team I worked with. They were
mostly young men, barely in their twenties,
yet their skill level was apparent. They were
easy to talk to and fun to work with. It was a
wonderful experience.”

MADE-TO-ORDER
the wood shop
Sure, SSB builds doors, windows and accessories for
its construction projects. But did you know we also
fabricate made-to-order replacement pieces?
Specializing in traditional timber and wood
construction, our talented woodworkers in The
Wood Shop stand ready to design, replicate
and build just what you need to outfit, repair or
upgrade your barn, home or shop.
In most cases, a site visit may not even be
necessary. Bring us a photo, an old window frame,
even a sketch with accurate dimensions; that
may be all we need to get our skilled millworkers
moving and motivated.
Want to install the finished product yourself? No
problem. Prefer to have SSB come and install it
for you? We can do that, too. Have some antique
hardware you’d like to use? It’s your call, and we’re
here to serve.
