Does size matter?
In the past year or so, I have heard through the
grapevine all different opinions on how "BIG" the club
has gotten. Some may think the club is too big,
others may think that we should not worry about its
size, some say it has lost that family feeling, etc.
Well, let me start out by saying that, yes, I do state a
lot that we are the largest regional club in the world.
The reason I do this is because I am very proud of
the fact that so many people want to enjoy their
Mustangs together to the fullest. We provide a ton of
benefits that allow them to enjoy their Mustangs
even more, which is why the membership has grown.
You may not know every name or face in the club,
but I do know that the members who are coming out
to the events are having a good time and are
allowing their love for Ford and the Mustang to bring
them a ton of fun and enjoyment. I mean that is what
we are all about, supporting Ford Motor Co. and the
Mustang Brand, while enjoying our cars in the
greatest of ways.
We provide a ton of benefits to our members, such
as discounts at lots of sponsors, special spots to
park at all cruises, free food at most cruises, tours at
the plant where the Mustang is built, the chance to
meet people who share a lot of the same interests as
you, and to be a part of the largest one-day all-Ford
and Mustang show on this side of the country, and
yes, I am including national shows!
Here is a great example of why size does matter: we
get noticed and interest from sponsors from all over
the country. Because of our size, they see a lot of
potential business within one club, which we provide
to them. They offer us discounts to get our business,
and we are happy to oblige. Also our club has been
invited by sponsors to come out to their facilities for
our general meetings, which is a huge compliment!
Besides Roush this upcoming month, three more
sponsors have shown interest and we are in talks
with them now to make those happen as well. These
are benefits we could not get with 40 members. And
I believe one of our strong selling points in landing
the Ford World Headquarters as the home for our
beloved Mustang Memories car show, is that they
see how much support of Ford and the Mustang
brand is right here in their backyard. So much that
Ford even allowed us to come into their home this
past May and hold our general meeting inside the
Ford World Headquarters auditorium, which is a day
all of us in attendance will never forget. The Ford
brass who came out to support us was stunning to
say the least. Once again, this would not have
happened with a club of 40 or 60 members. With
currently 620+ active members (households), which
totals over 1000+ people, we become very attractive
to a lot of people, especially sponsors and potential
sponsors, and of course Ford Motor Company itself.
A great benefit is that a lot of people have met their
best friend, close friends and some lifelong friends
through the club. It is an honor to be in such
company where everyone wants to be a member to
reap the benefits and have a great time doing so,
while meeting new friends and good people who all
share the same love for our beloved Mustang!
So please, recognize that size has lead to the things
that are being presented to our club for us to enjoy,
making your ownership experience of the greatest
muscle car in the world that much better than any
other club in the world!
My greatest reward since I have been your president
is seeing everyone being able to enjoy all the
benefits we are able to provide you because of our
size! I am in no way saying the club wouldn't be fun
if we were still at 200 members, but look what we
have been able to provide since our amazing growth
has started! So in this case, yes, "Size does Matter."

About the Club
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan
(MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a
group of individuals with the desire to protect and
preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most
attractive and fun filled cars ever made. We are
enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair with the
many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car.
Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from
1964½ to the 2013 GT or the 2004 Cobra, we love
them all. The mission of club members is to collect,
restore and preserve the history of the Mustang
along with the stories of the people and the roles that
they played in making this one of the great cars of
the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a
requirement for membership, your enthusiasm,
expertise, and / or love of the automobile are most
welcome.
Many of our club members own one or more
Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years.
Club members are always exchanging information,
providing sources for parts, literature and helpful
hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our
members are a diverse group of individuals, located
throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a
great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general
membership meetings are held on the second
Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter,
The Accelerator, provides the members with reports
on club activities, technical information,
advertisements and business service locations and
more. Some club activities include car shows,
picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical
sessions.

My One-of-a-Kind GT 500
By Carver Dumke
MOCSEM Member
Photos by Gary Brewer
This car was originally built for the Ford Vehicle
Program Office as a 2006MY Mustang GT Premium
with a spoiler delete, 4.6L V8, 5 speed transmission.
The car was then delivered to DST in Romulus, MI in
October 2005. DST was contracted by Ford to
convert this car to a 2007MY Shelby GT 500. All the
GT 500 body modifications were added and the car
was completely repainted the same color, Torch
Red. Then, Brembo brakes, Shelby GT 500 exhaust
system, wheels, tires and interior components were
added.
The car was then displayed as a 2007MY GT 500
during press days at the 2006 NAIAS in Detroit.
Following the NAIAS, it was sent to the New York
Auto Show in March of 2006 where it was on public
display as the new 2007MY GT 500. The car was
then shipped to similar auto shows around the
country. The car made its final appearance in
Mustang Alley before being retired to the back lot at
DST.
I found the car in late 2008 and although Ford
Vehicle Program Office said I could not buy this car, I
secured Elena Ford's written permission to purchase
it. Ford had it shipped to Village Ford where I took
delivery in October 2008. At the time, the car had
1,400 miles on it.
