2016 Cubmobile Construction Specifications and Requirements Classifications: The 2016 Cubmobile Derby will only consist of the STOCK classification STOCK – The Stock Cubmobile classification will have cars that are built in compliance with the guidelines published in the cub scout handbook. In addition to meeting the specifications in the handbook, all Stock cubmobiles will race with standard wheels and axles which will be obtained through the Cub Scout Pack. •No more than 3 drivers per car. •All cars must be not pre registered MODIFIED – There will be no modified class Registration and Inspection: On the day of the Derby all entrants will present their Cubmobile for inspection, at which time they will indicate which classification they intend to enter. The inspection will be performed to ensure the entrant meets the specifications for the entry class, and that all safety requirements are met. The tolerance for meeting dimensional requirements in both classifications will be +/- 1 inch. A car that has been entered in the Stock classification that does not meet all the requirements will not be allowed. If you have any questions regarding your Cubmobile design compliance, it is suggested that you contact Andrea Arias ([email protected]) or Jeff Dunlap ([email protected]), well before Derby day so that you may have an opportunity to correct any problems. 2016 Cubmobile Construction Specifications and Requirements STOCK Cubmobile Parts and Specifications: • A standard hardware package for Stock Cubmobile construction will be made available by your pack. The Stock hardware package includes standard wheels and four lag screws that are to be used for axles. • Wheels MUST be standard product provided by the cub scout pack as part of Stock Cubmobile hardware package. • Axles MUST be standard product provided by the cub scout pack as part of Stock Cubmobile hardware package. Figure 1 illustrates two acceptable configurations for axle construction • Figure 2 provides an illustration of overall design, building materials and hardware. All dimensions should be considered specifications within +/- 1 inch • The car frame is made from 2 x 4 construction lumber. • The overall length of the car frame is 52 inches. • The wheelbase is 48 inches • Use roundhead ½ inch bolts or wood screws for frame construction. • Do NOT use nails for frame constructi on. • Cars must be equipped with adequat e safety belt securely fastened to the frame of the car. • Steering is done with feet, placed on t he front axle, and by the hands holding a rope fastened to the front axle. No other stee ring devices are permitted. • Cars must be equipped with a hand b rake mounted to the frame. • Two blocks must be fastened to the fr ont axle within ½ inch on either side of the center frame to limit the turning radius • No additional components can be add ed for ballast. All parts must be integral to the construction of the Cubmobile. • Stabilizer bars from the frame to the rear axle are allowed (no greater than 2x2 and must be wood) Standard Wheels obtained from Harbor Freight *Please see changes to axle on specs page Figure 2 – Design and Construction Standards
