Fr. Joe’s Journal
We celebrate the feast of the Holy Family
and continue to celebrate Christmas! The
church celebrates its major feasts with a period of
days to reflect on the meaning of the day. Christmas
is one of those feasts. We continue the celebration of
Christmas until the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord
on January 11th. This gives a chance us to savor the
great miracle of the Birth of our Lord. This gives us
hope and we all need hope in our lives. The birth of
Jesus changed us and gives meaning to our lives. The
feast today emphasizes not only the Holy Family but
also reminds us that Christmas has made us brothers
and sister of Jesus and sons and daughters of God our
Father. We are part of a God’s family. We receive a
call to serve God and His family.
We welcome the new year! This Thursday we
begin another year, 2015. This event gives us time to
reflect on the year ahead and strive to do better in the
new year. A good way to begin the year is to attend
mass. New Years Day is also a Holy Day obligation
and we celebrate mass at 10 a.m. in English and noon
in Spanish. We also celebrate the great Ecuadorian
feast of Virgin de la Nube. We congratulate our Ecuadorian brothers and sister on their patronal feast. .
Thank you! I thank in advance (I write this before
Christmas) the many people who will make our
Christmas so beautiful. Each year our parishioners
step forward to enhance our Christmas. We deeply
appreciate their time, their talent and their generosity.
We pray for Archbishop Cupich and Cardinal George. We have welcomed our new
Archbishop Cupich and ask God to be with him and
continue to pray for the health of Cardinal George..
The end of the Calendar year: The end of the
year offers an opportunity to make financial contributions to the church and also to the capital campaign. . I thank all those who have pledged.
Fr. Kinoti’s father, my brother and brother
in law: I ask your prayer for Fr. Kinoti’s father, my
brother and my brother in law. We are grateful for
your prayers.. I also ask for your prayers for all of
our parishioners who face serious health issues.
God Bless you. Your pastor, Fr. Joe
nuestra Navidad tan hermosa.
Agradezco a
Joe
Meat Drive a Success!
¡Colecta de Carne un Éxito!
As this bulletin goes to press there are still a
few more hours before orders for Market Day are
due. So far we have received orders for over 130
pounds of meat. This is great news for our food pantry clients who will be able to start out the new year
by choosing from either lean ground beef or chicken
steaks for their families. Thanks to all who took part
in the drive.

WE ARE GOD’S HOLY FAMILY
SOMOS LA SAGRADA FAMILIA DE DIOS
The scriptures of Israel are filled with many stories of
barren couples who were miraculously granted the gift of
children by God. Surely the best known among these is the
first reading from today, from which Luke took inspiration
when he recounted the miraculous birth of John the Baptist
to Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the more miraculous birth
of Jesus to Mary and Joseph. In each instance, we are given
examples or role models of those who trusted in God. More
than examples of those who trust, they are models of selfsurrender. They abandoned their own presuppositions and
prejudices about the workings of the world and turned their
lives over to belief in a God who can make life grow where
none ought to; a God who can turn death around into a new
and unimagined life; a God who can, today, take a tiny
child of humble parents in an insignificant town and make
him into a light for all the world. This is what we, as God’s
holy family, are called to do each day: to trust not in ourselves and the way we think things should be, but to open
ourselves and surrender ourselves in faith to a God of endless promise.

The Christmas Spirit
Despite the flu that had many of our students and staff
down during the Advent Season, we kept the spirit of
Christmas strong at both campuses. All the primary classrooms were filled beautiful Advent projects that the students created. There were a few mischievous “elves”
around that would play tricks on the kids each day. The
middle school classroom doors were decorated with
cheer. The preschool & kindergarten Christmas concert
was a delight – the children sang so beautifully and
brought such happiness to the audience as their passionate voices excited emulated the joy of the season. Due to
the many absences because of the flu, we postponed our
Annual 1st-8th grade Christmas Caroling concert until early
January. We felt it would be best for everyone to be able
to participate and no one who is sick to feel obligated to
attend. We celebrated our last day of school before break
with an All School Mass in the morning followed by
“buddy reading time” where partners of an older and
younger student read together. The students, young and
old, love their buddies and it’s a great way to create a
nice bond in the student body. The end of the day was
party time with celebrations in each classroom. We hope
that all the entire NCA community which includes everyone at all of our parishes has Very, Merry Christmas!

January 1st: World Day of Prayer for Peace
Prayer for World Peace
Oración por Paz Mundial
Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to
be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the
endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what
we believe to be right.
May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome
evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.
We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a
world emancipated from violence, a new world where
fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice, nor
selfishness make them bring suffering to others.
Help us to devote our whole life and thought and energy
to the task of making peace, praying always for the inspiration and the power to fulfill the destiny for which we
and all men were created.
Ayúdanos a dedicar nuestra vida y pensamientos y

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION
ADOPCION ESPIRITUAL
Month 3- “I can swallow!”
Mes 3- “¡Puedo tragar!”
Your baby is quite active in the womb now,
though her mother won’t feel her for another
two months. If her mom’s womb had a window, you could see your spiritually adopted
baby squint, swallow and move her tongue. She can
make a tight fist, if you touch her palm. She is
breathing amniotic fluid as she will until birth,
though she obtains the oxygen she needs through the
umbilical cord. She weighs about one ounce, yet is
every bit a person as you are!
Please consider taking this opportunity to pray
