AMA 2015 “Deepening the Faith, Together in Service.”
Parishes throughout
the Diocese of
Monterey and,
indeed, throughout
the world, will be participating in
ARISE over a three-year period.
There are five six-week blocks of
time, each called a “Season”. Each
of these Seasons has a major gospel theme that is broken down into
weekly themes. We are about to
start Season II, “Change our
Hearts”. Sign up February 7-8.
Prayer weekend February 14-15.
Groups starts the week of February 22 and will meet for 6 weeks.
Over the next few weeks you’ll be hearing about the Annual Ministry
Appeal and how the ministries of the diocese serve all of us. The theme
of the AMA this year is “Deepening the Faith, Together in Service.” Let
me give you an example of how our parish is served by the diocesan
ministries. More information in next bulletin.

A New Year, New Beginnings for the Chris an Steward
Resist overwork – There is a pressure to produce, meet goals, be successful. But
ac vi es that lead us to overwork, constant fa gue and worry do not give glory to
God. What God calls us to do we can do well. Be mindful that life requires balance, down me and le ng go of unrealis c goals.
Nurture friendships – Our friends are those we choose to be with, those with
whom we spend our evenings, with whom we vaca on, to whom we go to for
advice. Friends are gi s from God who give us a greater apprecia on of God’s
love for us. Friends need our me and love.
Give more – Good stewards realize that everything they have is entrusted to
them as a gi to be shared. There is no be er place to begin than sharing with the
community that gathers around the Lord’s table at Mass. Consider what you are
giving to your parish and local diocese and commit to an even greater contribuon as circumstances allow.
Make a difference in your parish community – Believe it or not, your parish community can use your talents. Offering your talents to your faith community is one
of the most effec ve ways to feel useful and connected to others, and it is a poten ally life-changing New Year’s resolu on.
Consider living more simply – We cannot find fulfillment in possessions. They add
nothing to our self-worth. Jesus blessed the “poor in spirit” in his Sermon on the
Mount; and Saint Francis of Assisi urged us to live with only what was necessary,
for that is how we begin to find God.
Get healthy – Studies show that most people in North America are accelera ng
their own decline into premature old age, owing to poor diet and lack of physical
ac vity. Be a good steward of your body. If necessary, plan a complete overhaul
of your diet and exercise habits.
Don’t give up – People give up their New Year’s resolu ons because of perfeconism and unrealis c expecta ons. So take it slow, be kind to yourself and keep
trying. Resist the urge to throw your hands up and quit. You succeed through
small, manageable changes over me.
Turn to the Lord – Ask the Lord for guidance, strength and perseverance in
achieving your resolu ons. In his le er to the Philippians, Saint Paul writes: “I can
do everything through Him who gives me strength” (Phil 4:13). If God is the center of our New Year’s resolu ons, they have a be er chance for success.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION MASS
Our Confirmation Youth Mass will be on Sunday,
January 25 at the 5:00 pm Mass.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
As a result of the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, the
Church has defined a new pastoral plan for your care whenever you
struggle with illness. There are rites for children, a communal rite for
celebration in the parish, forms of care for the sick at each stage and
transition, and for the desperately ill. There is a much broader interpretation of who may be anointed, including not only the visibly ill, but
those battling addiction, or the elderly coping with the frustrating aches
and pains of aging. Children under seven are normally not anointed,
since the oil is associated with reconciliation. (For the same reason,
they do not receive ashes on Ash Wednesday.) However, children close
to that age who have a serious illness often gain a deep level of spiritual
insight and maturity, and may benefit from catechesis for the Eucharist.
Once admitted to confirmation and/or Eucharist, a sick child should be
anointed. It is a great strength of our present rite that a section is included with prayers tailored to the experience and understanding of a
child. Considering our recent history of being fairly sparing with this
sacrament, the generosity of celebration today is helping us to retrieve
an essential part of our tradition of reverence for the sick.

2015 AMA Profundizando la fe, juntos en el servicio
Durante las próximas semanas estaremos hablando sobre el Llamado
anual de colaboración para los Ministerios y cómo todos nosotros podemos ayudar a los ministerios de la diócesis. El tema de la campaña
(AMA) este año es "Profundizar la fe, juntos en el servicio". Mas
información en el proximo boletin.
REPORTE DE DONACIONES
Para las personas que usan sobres para dar su donación, los
reportes del 2014 ya están disponibles en la oficina. Si le es
imposible pasar a recogerla favor de comunicarse con nosotros
y con gusto, se lo haremos llegar por correo.
Un Nuevo Año, Nuevos Inicios para el Corresponsable Cristiano
Nutra las amistades – Nuestros amigos son aquellos con quienes elegimos
estar, con quienes compar mos las tardes, con quienes vamos de vacaciones o a
quienes acudimos por consejo. Los amigos son dones de Dios que nos dan una
mayor apreciación del amor de Dios por nosotros. Los amigos necesitan nuestro
empo y amor.
Dé más – Los buenos corresponsables reconocen que todo lo que ellos enen es
confiado a ellos para ser compar do. No hay un mejor lugar para comenzar a
compar r que con la comunidad que se reúne alrededor de la mesa del Señor
en la Misa. Considere lo que está dando a su parroquia y a su diócesis local y
comprométase a una mayor contribución de acuerdo a lo que sus circunstancias
le permitan.
Haga una diferencia en su comunidad parroquial – Aunque usted no lo crea, su
comunidad parroquial puede usar sus talentos. Ofrecer sus talentos a su
comunidad de fe es una de las maneras más efec vas de sen rse ú l y
conectado con otros, y es una resolución de Año Nuevo que puede cambiar
potencialmente la vida.
Considere vivir con más sencillez – Nosotros no podemos encontrar sa sfacción
en las posesiones. Ellas no agregan nada a nuestro propio valor. Jesús bendijo al
“pobre en espíritu” en su Sermón de la Montaña, y San Francisco de Asís nos
alentó a vivir sólo con lo necesario, esta es la manera en la que empezamos a
encontrar a Dios.
Manténgase saludable – Algunos estudios muestran que las personas en Norte
América están acelerando su propio declive hacia una vejez prematura, a causa
de una dieta pobre y falta de ac vidad sica. Sea buen corresponsable de su
cuerpo. Planeé una revisión completa de su dieta y de sus hábitos de ejercicio.
No renuncie – Las personas renuncian a sus resoluciones de Año Nuevo debido
al perfeccionismo y a expecta vas no realistas. Así que tómelo con calma, sea
amable consigo mismo y con núe intentándolo. Rechace el impulso de
renunciar. Usted lo logra a través de pequeños cambios manejables, con
constancia y empo.
Vuelva al Señor – Pida al Señor su guía, fortaleza y perseverancia en el logro de
sus resoluciones. En su carta a los Filipenses, San Pablo escribe: “Puedo hacerlo
todo a través de Él, quien es mi fortaleza” (Filipenses 4:13). Si Dios es el centro
de nuestras resoluciones de Año Nuevo, ellas tendrán una mejor oportunidad
de éxito.
