There is a small and mighty team of coordinators that had been meeting for many weeks in
preparation for our Summer Celebration
which took place this weekend, July 18. This
work of planning was one of grace and spirit.
We began each meeting with prayer and asking ourselves key questions to focus on as a
way of remaining in the Spirit of Christ during
this stewardship effort. We have not only raised
funds for the parish. We have also raised Spirit
and Faith through this massive, community effort
to show our support for Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. If you were at the Summer Celebration, you
may have noticed many of the volunteers were
walking around with shirts that said: “Ask Me
About Lourdes.” These volunteers were looking
for visitors from the neighborhood and around
Chicagoland and extending a warm welcome to
them. Our Summer Celebration was a great opportunity to show others that we are community
that is a vibrant, welcoming, growing, committed
community of faithful people. We are not perfect
of course. But we don’t get stuck in anything that
leads to dissension. We move on. We make it
work. We are led by His Spirit. Take note of today’s Responsorial Psalm. It is the familiar Psalm
23: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I
shall want. “ I truly felt the presence of the shepherd as we planned and carried out our plans for
the Summer Celebration. I hope you feel that
presence as well.
Hubo un grupo de coordinadores pequeño y
poderoso que se reunieron por muchas semanas en preparación para la Celebración de
Verano del 18 de Julio. Este trabajo de
planeación fue hecho con gracia y espíritu.
Comenzamos cada reunión con la oración e
hicimos preguntas claves para concentrarnos
en el Espíritu de Cristo durante este esfuerzo
de mayordomía. No solo recaudamos fondos
para la parroquia. También alzamos el Espíritu y
la Fe a través de un esfuerzo comunitario masivo
para mostrar nuestro apoyo a la Parroquia de
Lourdes. Si vinieron a la Celebración, ustedes
habrán visto a muchos voluntarios con t-shirts
que decían “Pregúntame sobre Lourdes.” Estos
voluntarios buscaban visitantes del barrio y de
Chicago para extenderles una bienvenida calurosa.
Nuestra Celebración de Verano fue una gran oportunidad de mostrar a otros que somos una comunidad vibrante, creciente comprometida con feligreses fieles. Por supuesto que no somos perfectos. Pero no nos quedamos atascados en lo que
conduzca a la disension. Nosotros seguimos adelante. Y lo hacemos trabajar. Somos guiados por
su Espíritu. Recuerden el salmo responsorial de
hoy. Es el Salmo 23: “El Señor es mi pastor, nada
me faltará.” Verdaderamente sentí la presencia
del Pastor durante la planeación y la ejecución de
nuestros planes para la Celebración de Verano.
Espero que ustedes también hayan sentido esa
presencia.
I thank our extremely dedicated team of coordinating volunteers for your enormous accomplishment in the Summer Celebration. I thank all
of our friends and parishioners who made all
kinds of donations for the success of Summer
Celebration. I am so proud and grateful to report
that we actually had received enough donations
IN ADVANCE of the Summer Celebration that
every single overhead expense was paid before
we even started the event. That is amazing! That
is a credit to all of you and your friends and relatives who supported us. We are blessed indeed.

THE DAYTIMERS…
....is a purely social group aimed at men and women in the over-fifty demographic that are
available in the afternoon hours. We meet for conversation, snacks and a free movie - usually
an Academy Award winner or a familiar classic. We gather in the Rectory Lounge on the
3rd Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. There are no dues or admission charges.
This month we are watching the 2015 drama "Woman in Gold" starring Helen
Mirren. Come join us - get out of the house - and bring your friends and neighbors to this
casual get together on Tuesday, July 21st!

know how to wash dishes?... Open
cans?... Put food on a plate?... Serve
juice?... Sweep the floor? No special
skills are required to help feed the homeless and
working poor. We serve an average of 200 hundred
people every Wednesday. Preparation begins at 3:30
p.m.; we serve from 5:30 p.m.– 6:30 p.m. and clean
up, which is usually finished by 8:00 p.m—If we
have enough help!
Many people ask us if they can help in another
way. In your package of envelopes there is a blue
envelope marked “Soup Kitchen Support,” please
use it and give as much as you can. Change goes a
long way to helping people who have nothing, especially in these days of a hard economy.

The annual Golden Wedding Anniversary
Mass for 2015 will be on Sunday, August 30
at 2:45 PM at Holy Name Cathedral. We are hoping Archbishop Cupich will be able to preside at
the Mass, if his schedule allows. Couples married
50 years are invited to attend and will be able to
attend the Mass and the reception afterwards.
