Happy Epiphany!
This weekend the Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany. Traditionally, the Epiphany is celebrated on January
6th, twelve days after the feast of Christmas. In our country it is moved to the Sunday between January 2nd and January
8th. This feast is one of the most ancient in the Catholic Church that celebrates the revelation of God to mankind! In
fact, this is the meaning of the word “Epiphany.” It is a Greek word that means “revelation.”
On this feast of Epiphany we see the wise men from the East coming to see the “new born king of the Jews.” It
is revealed to these men and to us that this new born king is the son of God. He is God himself who came into our world
to become one of us. The gifts of the wise men reveal to us who the baby Jesus is. The gold tells us he is a king. Gold is
a gift for kings! He is the king of the universe. The frankincense tells us that he is priest. It was the job of the priest to
offer up the sacrifice of incense in the temple. He is the true priest who will be offering his very life as a perfect sacrifice
to the Father in heaven. Which brings us to the gift of myrrh. The myrrh is a spice used to prepare a dead body for burial.
This gift tells us that this baby was born to die. Yes, he has come into this world to die for our sins. “God so loved the
world that he gave his only begotten Son.”
Let us pray on this feast of Epiphany that was has been revealed to us about this baby born in Bethlehem would
find a place deep in our hearts and minds. Let us pray that we will always be ready to share with others what God has
revealed to us!

comfort and peace.
The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel

The St. Joseph Fund Raising Committee is having its annual

and Sword, will be held on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the

The Holy Epiphany
While often times conflicting lore muddles the story of the Magi, those bearing gifts for the Christ child are Caspar of Tarsus, Melchior of Persian and
Balthasar of Saba. Weary from desert travel, the Magi humbly offer their gifts.
Caspar is young, European and offers gold. Gold finances the Holy Family’s
coming flight to Egypt and also symbolizes Christ’s immortality and purity.
For his generosity, Caspar receives the gifts of charity and spiritual wealth.
Melchior is middle-aged, Persian and offers myrrh. Myrrh is a fragrant gum,
which the ancient Israelites believed to strengthen children. This symbol of
Christ’s mortality was blended with wine and offered to him on the cross,
and also mixed with aloes to wrap his body for the tomb. Melchior receives
the gifts of humility and truth. Balthasar is elderly, Ethiopian and offers
frankincense. Frankincense is a resin used in incense for worship and also
symbolizes prayer and sacrifice. Balthasar receives the gift of Faith. And
Christ, humbling himself to become man, offers us the greatest gift of all,
the light that forever burns in the darkness.

“JUNTOS CONSTRUYENDO EL REINO DE DIOS”
Feliz Epifanía!
Este fin de semana la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de la Epifanía. Tradicionalmente, se celebra la Epifanía el 6 de
enero, doce días después de la fiesta de Navidad. En nuestro país se traslada al domingo entre el 2 y el 8 de enero. Esta fiesta es una de las más antiguas en la Iglesia Católica que celebra la revelación de Dios a la humanidad! De
hecho, este es el significado de la palabra “Epiphany.” es una palabra griega que significa “revelación.” En esta fiesta
de Epifanía vemos a los hombres sabios del este que viene a ver al “recien nacido rey de los judíos.” Se revela a estos
hombres y a nosotros, que este nuevo nacido rey es el hijo de Dios. Él es Dios mismo que vino a nuestro mundo para
convertirse en uno de nosotros. Los regalos de los Reyes Magos nos muestran quien es el niño Jesús. El oro nos dice que es un rey.
El oro es un regalo para Reyes! Él es el rey del universo. El incienso nos dice que él es sacerdote. Fue el trabajo
del sacerdote ofrecer el sacrificio de incienso en el templo. Él es el verdadero sacerdote que ofrecerá su propia vida
como sacrificio perfecto al padre en el cielo. Lo que nos lleva al regalo de la mirra. La mirra es una especie que se
utiliza para preparar un cadáver para el entierro. Este regalo nos dice que este niño nació para morir. Sí, él ha venido
a este mundo a morir por nuestros pecados. “Dios tanto amó al mundo que dió a su único Hijo.” Oremos en esta fiesta de la Epifanía que se ha revelado a nosotros acerca de este bebé nacido
en Belén, para que encuentre un lugar en nuestras mentes y corazones. Oremos para que siempre estemos dispuestos
a compartir con otros lo que Dios ha revelado a nosotros!

ADORACIÓN. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel

LOS REYES MAGOS
La primera descripción de los tres Reyes Magos como hoy los conocemos,
fue hecha en el siglo XIV, por un monje benedictino, llamado Beda. Describió a Melchor (Magalath) como un anciano de cabellos y barba blanca,

incienso es otra resina. Su significado simbólico es la ampliación de la conciencia, la purificación, que va más allá de los apetitos cotidianos. El incienso
honraba a Jesús como Divinidad.
Baltasar (Serakin), procedente de África, de raza negra, el oro. El oro es
pureza. No se corrompe, no se altera, representa lo más puro del hombre. Se
utilizaba en la joyería real y para ornamentos
religiosos. El oro, honraba al Niño Jesús como
Rey. A través de los siglos, la tradición ha ido
añadiendo otras posibles simbologías, como
que los Reyes representaban los tres
continentes conocidos en la antigüedad:
Europa, Asia, y África; que representaban
alma, mente y cuerpo, y otra interpretación,
como símbolo de las tres edades del hombre.
