Del Padre Michael Shanahan, nuestro párroco
This is the time of year when many parishes move into
transition mode. Fr. Manuel Padilla will be a part of this transition this year. We are grateful for the past five years we
have had with Fr. Padilla here at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Fr. Manuel will transfer to the Shrine of Our Lady of
Guadalupe in Des Plaines, IL. He begins there on July 1,
2016. We gathered last weekend to show our gratitude
and offer blessings for him.
Este es el tiempo del año cuando las parroquias están en
transición. El Padre Manuel será parte de la transición de este
año. Le estamos muy agradecidos por los cinco años con
nosotros, aquí en la Parroquia de Lourdes. El Padre
Manuel será transferido al Santuario de la Virgen de
Guadalupe en Des Plaines, IL. El comenzará el 1ro de
Julio, 2016.
Nos reunimos la semana pasada para
mostrar nuestra gratitud y ofrecerle bendiciones.
Fr. Manuel has shared gentle wisdom and has been
a kind presence to many parishioners and friends of the
parish over these years. Fr. Manuel has always been available
for a variety of requests in the parish. Thank you for your
sacramental ministry in celebrating the Eucharist and Reconciliation, in the hospitals and nursing homes, with our children in Religious Education and altar servers. We thank you
also for celebrating the Quinceañeras for many young women
in the parish. I personally thank Fr. Manuel for his wise, pastoral perspective on a wide variety of pastoral situations. In
the midst of ambiguity, his serene perspective consistently
brought new light to a number of situations. He has always
been an instrument of peace in advocating for cooperation
and consensus in those occasional moments of tension. Fr.
Manuel, be assured you are always most welcome here in the
future. God Bless Fr. Manuel. Our new associate pastor will
be Fr. Dominic Vinh Ha. Fr. Dominic will officially begin
here at Our Lady of Lourdes on July 1, 2016.
In these
days when there is a shortage of clergy, we are blessed to
have been granted an associate pastor. I was recently at a
meeting with several pastors from nearby parishes. Most of
the parishes in our area only have one priest assigned to
them. These parishes also require bi-lingual clergy. In an
effort to meet our bi-lingual needs, I have been inviting visiting clergy to celebrate the Sunday Eucharist. They are Fr.
Tom Heneghan, M.M., Fr. Xamie Reyes and Fr. Brendan
Curran, O.P.
El Padre Manuel compartió su sabiduría gentil y ha sido
una presencia bondadosa para muchos parroquianos y
amigos de la parroquia en estos años. El siempre ha estado
disponible para una variedad de servicios en la parroquia.
Gracias por el ministerio de sacramentos al celebrar la Eucaristía y la Reconciliación, en los hospitals y asilos, con los
niños de Educación Religiosa y los monaguillos. Le agradecemos también por celebrar las Quinceañeras de muchas
jovencitas en la parroquia. Personalmente agradezco al Padre
Manuel por su sabia perspectiva pastoral en una amplia

El siempre ha sido un instrumento de paz, pidiendo por colaboración y concenso en esos momentos ocasionales de tensión. Padre Manuel, por seguro será siempre muy bienvenido

Nuestro nuevo párroco asociado será el Padre Dominic Vinh
Ha. El Padre Dominic empieza oficialmente el 1ro de Julio,
aquí en la parroquia.
En estos días cuando hay una escasez de clérigos, somos bendecidos de contar con un párroco asociado. Recientemente
estuve en una reunión de varios párrocos de parroquias vecinas. En la mayoría de parroquias en nuestra área solo hay un
solo sacerdote asignado. Y estas parroquias necesitan un
sacerdote bilingue. En un esfuerzo de acomodar nuestras necesidades bilingues, he estado invitando a otros sacerdotes a
celebrar la Eucaristía dominical. Ellos son los Padres Tom
Heneghan, M.M., Xamie Reyes y Brendan Curran, O.P.
Los veremos en las misas en español ocasionalmente. Les
agradezco por su graciosa y cordial bienvenida que ustedes
han ofrecidos a estos clérigos que nos visitan. He empezado
también la investigación inicial de invitar a un sacerdote Internacional, para que sea miembro de nuestro staff. Siempre
trato de relacionar varias situaciones pastorales con el Evangelio.
We will see each of them for masses in Spanish on an occasional basis on the weekends. I thank you for the gracious
welcome you have extended to these visiting clergy. I have
also begun the initial investigation of inviting an international priest to be a member of staff. I always try to relate
various parish pastoral situations to the Gospel.
You may remember the story of the multiplication of the
loaves. Thousands of hungry pilgrims looked to the disciples
for sustenance. Jesus encouraged the disciples to have trust in
His presence. The disciples feared there would not be enough
to take care of the needs of the people. Jesus encouraged the
disciples to bless and multiply the little they did have. A
priest friend shared the following thought with me: “trust in
God is writing your name on the bottom of a sheet of blank
paper, and handing it to the Lord for Him to fill in”. We have
always been a blessed parish. Indeed, God has plans for us.
Let us trust in God’s constant goodness. God Bless.

parroquia bendecida. Ciertamente el Señor tiene planes para
nosotros. Confiemos en la constante bondad de Dios. Bendiciones para todos.
