follow to reach tourist services, activities or attractions.
SECURITY
Right turns at red lights are only allowed at a few intersections in the municipalities
of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. It is still compulsory to come to a complete stop,
and drivers must give the right of way to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians who

Tour of the Route des Navigateurs
From Pocatière to Sainte-Luce
195 kilometres, one way
Following Route 132 from the Centre-du-Québec and ChaudièreAppalaches regions, you will join the Bas-Saint-Laurent section of
the Route des Navigateurs at La Pocatière in Kamouraska county.
With most traffic staying on Highway 20, you’ll then ride on tranquil
Route 132 through a string of peaceful villages among Victorian-era
homes on the shores of the St. Lawrence, recalling the heyday of the
19th century seaside resorts.
At Rivière-du-Loup, the St. Lawrence already reaches a width of
23 kilometres and is referred to as the “sea”. This is also where the Route
des Phares (lighthouse trail) begins. You can visit three lighthouses in the
Bas-Saint-Laurent region: the lighthouse on Île du Pot à l’Eau-de-Vie,
located off Rivière-du-Loup, and the Île Verte lighthouse, the oldest on
the St. Lawrence, and the Pointe-au-Père lighthouse in Rimouski.
A string of islands open to visitors dots the St. Lawrence in the
Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Enjoy an outing on the water to discover the
animals and plants of the St. Lawrence, whether by kayak, Zodiac or
larger boats for whale-watching cruises. In Trois-Pistoles, you’ll be
enchanted by local legends and charmed by the Basque culture.
For a stretch on the way from Saint-Simon to Rimouski, the
road passes among rocky ridges and outcroppings. Views of the
St. Lawrence are framed between the mountains and islands of Le Bic,

Rimouski, the region’s largest city, stretches along the shores of the
St. Lawrence. Enjoy the sea breezes while strolling on the shoreline

Sainte-Luce, a favourite for summer outings.
After Sainte-Luce, you reach the end of the Route des Navigateurs

145-kilometre loop
La Pocatière, the gateway to the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, is known
for its educational institutions, the museum of ethnology and the lively
city centre where you will find cafes, shops, restaurants and many services.
Take a break at the tourist information office on the Route du Quai,
where the knowledgeable staff will be happy to provide information
about local attractions. While there, visit the adjacent interpretive
centre showcasing the St. Lawrence.
As you continue your tour along Route 132, you will pass through a
succession of villages and coastal landscapes, each more lovely than
the last. Discover the region’s heritage and historic wayside crosses
starting in Rivière-Ouelle, and learn the story of the Chapais family in
Saint-Denis.
The village of Kamouraska is probably one of the best known resort
towns in eastern Quebec. On weekends, Avenue Morel (Route 132) is
crowded with visitors to the many restaurants, fish markets, bakery,
shops and art galleries, as well as the museum and health spa. The
traditional architecture of the region has been preserved in many
magnificent homes, some of which are now B&Bs.
19th century, the village features many period homes and villas, and still
has a saltwater swimming pool open to the public.
When you reach the end of the village, make a hard right to backtrack
on Route 132, then turn left uphill onto Côte de la Mer. Turn right onto
Chemin du Lac, then right onto the 3e Rang, which will lead you to
Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska to the west.
As you continue on Route 232 from Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska,
you will pass through farming and logging villages with views of the
St. Lawrence in the distance. In Saint-Pascal, take advantage of the
diverse shopping and services or even spend the night.
Return to La Pocatière, passing through the charming village of
Saint-Pacôme.
Continue to Saint-André, where you can enjoy a meal and stay the
night before taking the Route du Fleuve to ride along the shore to
Notre-Dame-du-Portage. A popular seaside resort town in the late

West of Rivière-du-Loup, take Route 132 to Route 289 in Saint-André,
the starting point for the Route des Frontières along the borders with
Maine and New Brunswick.
Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup, Saint-François-Xavierde-Viger, Saint-Épiphane, Saint-Arsène and finally back to
Rivière-du-Loup, the second largest city in the region.
After passing through Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska, a beautiful
winding road leads you to Pohénégamook, a resort town on the shores
of a lake of the same name. The sandy beach, resort, restaurants and
inns all add to the ambiance of the area’s “holiday village”. You will pass
through Pohénégamook’s three distinct sectors: Saint-Éleuthère,
Estcourt and Sully. Stop in the Parc de la Frontière in Estcourt and
visit the small international bridge, as well as the Canada-US border
marker.
Take the time to explore Rivière-du-Loup’s many attractions, from
the waterfall in the heart of downtown at the Parc des Chutes to sea
cruises, including restaurants and lodging to suit every taste and every
budget. The shoreline Parc de la Pointe is a great place to enjoy the
St. Lawrence and the spectacular sunsets the region is known for.
To complete the tour, take Highway 85 North, passing through
Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!, to the Route 291 exit toward SaintHonoré-de-Témiscouata. Route 291 will lead you through

Continue on to Rivière-Bleue, then take Route 232 toward the
Cabano sector of Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac. A favourite stop for
many riders, the town boasts many B&Bs and restaurants (including
one of the best restaurants in the Bas-Saint-Laurent!), a main street
where visitors rub shoulders with locals, and the Parc Clair Soleil – a
lively summertime gathering place. Over 42 kilometres in length, Lac
Témiscouata forms a delightful backdrop for the whole town. If you
have time, make sure to visit the brand new Parc national du
Lac-Témiscouata, just across the lake.

where you will turn right to continue through the village before taking
