regents clash
in the 2015
women’s college
world series
Jennifer Vargas ’01 delivered the keynote address at St. Lucy’s Priory
High School’s Commencement Ceremonies on Sunday, May 24, 2015.
Jennifer emphasized the importance of overcoming challenges in order
to pursue one’s dreams:
As Regents, you have been prepared to survive and conquer any
challenges that come your way. You are all independent, knowledgeable
women grounded in your faith. St. Lucy’s has provided you with
the materials and tools that you need to move on in the world.
Now it is up to you to decide what to do with them.
Challenges that you encounter in your life come in various forms.
For example, learning how to step out of your comfort zone and explore
is a challenge in itself. In life, there is no straight path to your dream.
In fact, sometimes you will find an unexplored path that leads you
to interesting experiences that help mold your life. Do not be afraid
to try new things or fear the unknown. You need to explore new worlds,
‘to run where the brave dare not go.’
The journey will definitely not be easy. You will be challenged time
and time again, but you must remember that the manner in which you
overcome your challenges will determine your success. If you fall down,
get up, brush yourself off and try again. Always keep a positive attitude
and be willing to work hard. Most importantly, stay strong in your faith.
May God continue to bless you on your journey and in the pursuit
of your dream.
Jennifer received her B.A. in Biology from UCLA in 2005. She attended and
graduated from medical school at the University of Guadalajara (Mexico)
in December 2011. She is currently working as a medical doctor, practicing
family medicine.
Friends since the first grade at Our Lady
of Assumption in Claremont, and teammates
on the St. Lucy’s Regents Softball Team for
four years, the friendship of alumna Jazmine
Sosa ’12 and Danielle O’Toole ’12 was tested
this past June when their respective college
teams played each other in the Women’s
College World Series in Oklahoma. Jazmine
is a Catcher for the UCLA Bruins. Danielle
plays both Pitcher and First Base for the
University of Arizona Wildcats.
vehicle safety
advocate
Rita Garabet ’11 returned to campus

safety. Rita lost her brother in a tragic
motorcycle accident while she was a
student at St. Lucy’s. Her family created
the Joseph F. Garabet Foundation to
raise awareness, especially among
young adults, about the dangers of
borrowing and lending cars, bikes,
motorbikes, and fire arms. For more
