„Fostering Academic International Relations in Israeli Academic Colleges“
Bericht über den Study Visit,
durchgeführt von Kolleginnen vom Kaye Academic College, Israel
im Zeitraum vom 27. Mai 2013 bis 30. Mai 2013
an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Kärnten / Viktor Frankl Hochschule
In der Zeit vom 27. Mai 2013 bis 30. Mai 2013 fand der zweite Study Visit im Rahmen des TempusIRIS-Projekts statt. Als Vertreterinnen des Kaye Academic Colleges wurden Frau Dr. Olzan Goldstein
(Head of Research Department) und Frau Dr. Riva Levenchuk (Head of the International Relations
Department) entsandt.
Erste und intensive Gespräche über beide Institutionen wurden bereits beim Kick-Off-Meeting in Tel
Aviv (Feber 2013) mit Frau Dr. Goldstein geführt. Sehr herzlich war daher bereits der Empfang am
Klagenfurter Flughafen. Erste Eindrücke von der Reise und Neuigkeiten wurden nicht nur nach dem
Ankommen reflektiert bzw. ausgetauscht, sondern am nächsten Tag fortgesetzt.
Der zweite Tag, Dienstag, 28. Mai 2013, war gekennzeichnet durch die Informationen, seit wann die
Servicestelle “Bildungskooperationen und internationale Kontakte” an der Pädagogischen Hochschule
besteht, wie die gesamte Aufbauarbeit erfolgte, wie viele Ressourcen (personell und zeitlich) zur Verfügung stehen, wie die Kontaktaufnahme und die Kontaktpflege mit den Partnerinstitutionen der Hochschule funktioniert und vieles mehr. Einblick wurde ebenso in den täglichen Ablauf der Arbeiten, die in
der Servicestelle zu erfüllen sind, gegeben. Dies betraf die Arbeit mit den Incoming Students und Outgoing Students, dem Incoming Staff und dem Outgoing Staff, welche Projekte von der Servicestelle koordiniert und an wie vielen teilgenommen wurde, wie die Partnerinstitutionen ausgewählt wurden /
werden, wie bei internationalen Projekten die Finanzierung erfolgt u.v.m.

Dabei wurde die Servicestellenleiterin von Frau ÜOL Elfriede Koschina unterstützt, welche ebenfalls
im Projekt Tempus-Iris aktiv teilnimmt. Kollegin Koschina ermöglichte es den israelischen Partnerinnen, ihren Englisch-Unterricht, abgehalten an der NMS, zu besuchen. Zu Mittag wurden grenz- und
kulturübergreifende Gespräche beim Mittagessen fortgeführt. Zu diesem koscheren Essen lud Kollege
an der Hochschule und Dompfarrer von Klagenfurt, Herr Dr. theol. Peter Allmaier, ein. Bei dem interessanten interkulturellen Austausch war auch Domkurat und Leiter des Referates für Kichenmusik aus
Wien, Herr MMag. Konstantin Reymaier, anwesend und neben Beruflichem war Platz und Gelegenheit
für persönliche Gespräche. Anschließend wurde mit Herrn Mario Wolte, Student an der Pädagogischen
Hochschule, ein Stadtrundgang durchgeführt bei dem die Klagenfurter Innenstadt mit viel Interesse der
israelischen Gäste erkundet wurde.
Am nächsten Tag, Mittwoch, 29. Mai 2013, erhielten die israelischen Gäste grundsätzliche Informationen über die Pädagogische Hochschule Kärnten / Viktor Frankl Hochschule sowie Informationen
über das zweisprachige Schulwesen in Kärnten von Rektorin, Frau Prof. Mag. Dr. Marlies Krainz-Dürr.
Über Forschungsaktivitäten an der Pädagogischen Hochschule sowie über Projekte, in welche die
Hochschule mit Begleitforschung involviert ist, berichtete Frau Univ.-Doz. Dr. Gabriele Khan, Vizerektorin für Forschung und Entwicklung. Weitere Kooperationsmöglichkeiten zwischen der Hochschule und dem Kaye Academic College wurden mit der Vizerektorin und den israelischen Kolleginnen
am Nachmittag vertiefender diskutiert.
Zuvor stand jedoch der Besuch bei einer Lehrveranstaltung an der Pädagogischen Hochschule mit Studierenden am Programm. Die israelischen Gäste erhielten nicht nur einen Einblick in welcher Form angehende Englischlehrer/innen die Didaktik vermittelt bekommen, sondern konnten die allerletzte Englisch-Didaktikstunde innerhalb von sechs Semestern miterleben, welche Studierenden bei Kollegin
ÜOL Elfriede Koschina innerhalb der letzten drei Jahren absolvierten. Sie erlebten dabei Darbietungen,
bei denen die Methodenvielfalt, das didaktische Wissen, die Leidenschaft und die Freude der Studierenden als zukünftige Englischlehrer/innen. Der weitere Nachmittag war gekennzeichnet durch vertiefende Gespräche über den Studienablauf an der Hochschule, die Integration von Incoming Students und
von den vielen Fragen, die von den israelischen Kolleginnen gestellt und beantwortet wurden.
Am Feiertag, am 30 Mai 2013, wurde die Exkursion in das Dreiländereck Österreich - Slowenien Italien durchgeführt. Dabei erhielten die Gäste Auskünfte über die Geschichte, Kultur und Wirtschaft
Kärntens und die Region Friaul-Julisch-Venetien. Vor dem Abflug nach Israel konnten die Gäste typische slowenische Gerichte beim Mittagessen in Kranjska Gora kennenlernen und dieses bei einem
Espresso und Cappuccino in Tarvis beenden. Auch während der gesamten Autofahrt von Italien bis
zum Flughafen Klagenfurt ergaben sich viele Gespräche rund und die Internationalisierungsaktivitäten
beider Institutionen, bei welchen klar zum Ausdruck kam, dass weitere gemeinsame Aktivitäten ins
Auge gefasste werden.

Anstrengende, jedoch sehr erfolgreiche, herzliche, offene und für die Zukunft weiterhin sehr kooperative Tage beendeten diesen Study-Visit an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Kärnten / Viktor Frankl
Hochschule.

Report on the Study Visit,
implemented by colleagues from the Kaye Academic College,
Beer-Sheva, Israel
in the time period from May 27th, 2013 to May 30th, 2013
at the University College of Teacher Education / University College Viktor Frankl,
Carinthia/Austria
In the period from May 27th, 2013 to May 30th, 2013 the second Study Visit of Israeli Partner
Institutions took place within the Tempus-IRIS-Project at the University College of Teacher Education
/ University College Viktor Frankl in Carinthia, Austria. Dr. Olzan Goldstein (Head of Research
Department) and Dr. Riva Levenchuk (Head of the International Relations Department) were sent as
representatives of the Kaye Academic College.
The first intense conversations about both institutions had already taken place at the kick-off meeting in
Tel Aviv (February 2013) with Dr. Goldstein. Therefore the reception at the Klagenfurt airport was
already very warm. First impressions of the journey and latest news were not only reflected and
exchanged after the arrival, but also continued the next day.

The second day, Tuesday, May 28th 2013, was characterized by the information about the service point
"Office for International Affairs" at the University College of Teacher Education, how the entire
development work was carried out, how many resources (personnel and temporal) are available, how
the establishment and maintenance of contacts with the partner institutions of the university works and
more. Also insight was given in the daily routines of the work at the Office for International Affairs.
This included the work with the Incoming students and Outgoing students, the Incoming staff and the
Outgoing staff, which and how many projects were coordinated by the service point, how the partner
institutions were / are being selected, how international projects are being financed, etc.
Thereby, the head of the Office for International Affairs was supported by ÜOL Elfriede Koschina,
who also participates actively in the Tempus-Iris project. Colleague Koschina allowed the Israeli
partners to visit her English classes, held at the NMS (New Middle School). At lunchtime, cross-border
and -cultural discussions were continued. Klagenfurt’s Dome Priest Dr. Peter Allmaier, who is also
lecturer at the College of Education, invited the delegation to a kosher meal. Dome Curate and Head of
the Department for Church Music from Vienna, MMag. Konstantin Reymaier also joined the
interesting cultural exchange. Besides professional discussions enough room was given to personal
matters. Afterwards, an interesting city tour was undertaken, guided by Mr. Mario Wolte, a student at
the University College of Teacher Education, where the Israeli guests could explore the town centre of
Klagenfurt.
The next day, Wednesday, May 29th 2013, Rector Prof. Mag. Dr. Marlies Krainz-Dürr gave the Israeli
guests basic information about the University College of Teacher Education / University College
Viktor Frankl as well as information about the bilingual education in Carinthia. Univ.-Doz. Dr.
Gabriele Khan, Vice Rector for Research and Development, talked about research activities at the
University College of Teacher Education and about projects in which the University is involved with
accompanying research. In the afternoon further cooperation possibilities between the University and
the Kaye Academic College were discussed with the Vice Rector and Israeli colleagues. However,
before that, the agenda included a visit of a course at the University College of Teacher Education.
The Israeli guests not only gained an insight into what form aspiring English teachers get taught
didactics, but could witness the very last hour of English-teaching within six semesters, which students
completed within the last three years with ÜOL Elfriede Koschina. They experienced presentations,
where the diversity of methods, the didactic knowledge, the passion and the joy of students as future
teachers of English emerged. The afternoon was further characterized by in-depth discussions about the
course of studies at the University, the integration of Incoming Students and the many questions that
were asked by the Israeli colleagues.

On May 30th 2013, a public holiday in Austria, an excursion to the border triangle Austria-SloveniaItaly was organized. The guests received information about the history, culture and economy of
Carinthia and the region Friuli Venezia Giulia. Before the departure to Israel, the guests could taste
typical Slovenian dishes at lunch in Kranjska Gora. The day ended in a nice way over some espressi
and cappuccini in Tarvisio. During the entire drive from Italy to the airport Klagenfurt, many
conversations happened about the internationalization activities of the two institutions, where it became
very clear that further joint activities will be planned.
Strenuous, but very successful, warm and open days, remaining very cooperative for the future,
finished this Study Visit at the University College of Teacher Education / University College Viktor
Frankl in Carinthia, Austria.
