KEY DATES... Friday 20 February Breakfast Club 8.30-8.50am Friday 27 February Breakfast Club 8.30-8.50am A NOTE FROM SENIOR YEARS LEADERSHIP The 2015 Academic year is now well and truly underway. I would like to begin by thanking all of the fabulous Senior Years students who have returned to school this year with remarkable focus and enthusiasm for their studies. The world of Senior Years is very busy with deadlines for assessment, SACE requirements, new compulsory areas of study and of course the demands of juggling part-time work with fulltime study for many students. The timetable structure in SY is specifically designed to provide students with significantly more time in every subject to ensure that they are able to meet the full range of requirements in each of their subject outlines. As such, it is extremely important that all students are here every lesson, every day. Another very important aspect of SY is the access every student has to a laptop. We believe that by providing 24/7 access to computers in SY, students are able to continue with their curriculum outside of school hours. To prepare for any work students need to undertake at home, they are able to download any required information and/or programs using the school network which should eliminate the need for internet access at home. To ensure that computers continue to run smoothly, it is vital that all nonschool related media be removed from laptops by the end of Week 5. Students will need to store all of their non-school related media on an external drive from the start of week 6. After this date, the media may be automatically deleted from laptops. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Class of 2014 – Dux Assembly We began the school year with the Dux Assembly on Tuesday week 2, where we presented the Dux, Nava Avaz Pour with her Certificate acknowledging her outstanding results as the highest achieving student in Year 12 with an ATAR of 93. In addition we presented the laptop awards to four students who received 2 ‘A’ grades and completed their SACE – Congratulations to Nava Avaz Pour, Mustafa Ahmadzada, Corey Pritchard and Kye Adsett. All four students along with 24 other graduates from the Class of 2014 will be attending University this year. We wish them well with all their future endeavours. Some outstanding facts about the Class of 2014: •94% completion of SACE •89% retention – students who started the year completed the year •100% completion for ATSI Students •100% completion for Students in Special Class •87% completion for student with an NEP •42% of grades were A’s and B’s •89% of grades were C or higher •Top 6 ATARS were between 83 and 93 Academic Awards At the conclusion of the Class of 2014 Awards we presented the Academic Awards for Term 4 2014 for the students who received an A grade in one or more subjects. The number of students receiving ‘A’ results continues to grow and is now far too numerous to list in this newsletter. Over the course of the day students were involved in many activities such as: • Team building challenges • Improving study techniques • Balancing school/work and life • Mental and Physical health • Pathway preparation • and the Class of 2015 photo All the students had a great day showing exceptional teamwork while participating in all the activities and challenges. The class of 2015 showed innovative and creative problem solving skills which will be put to good use throughout the year. Drivers must stop for anyone using the crossing or about to use the crossing when the lights are flashing. Drivers are not required to stop if the lights are not flashing.” PEDESTRIANS – it IS legal to cross outside of the 25 and 50 signs BUT please try to take the extra steps to use the crossing (good exercise) AND be an example of being safe to younger ones. STUDENT PEDESTRIANS – If you do not use the crossing please TAKE YOUR HEADPHONES OUT so you can HEAR the traffic and RAISE YOUR EYES your phone etc to SEE the traffic! Lynne Symons Principal
