GOSPEL: Matthew 25:1-13
Why do we need the gift of wisdom? Why do we need to
be prepared daily for Christ's coming? The parable in today's gospel provides some answers. According to the parable, five foolish bridesmaids go out to meet the bridegroom
without bringing any extra oil for their lamps (the bridegroom in this story represents Christ). When the bridegroom finally arrives at midnight, the foolish bridesmaids
have to run off in the opposite direction to purchase more
oil. By the time they get back, the door to the wedding celebration is locked. And the groom says to them "I do not
know you."
1.) A parable is a story told to teach a lesson. What is the
lesson of the story of the wise and foolish bridesmaids?
2.) Name some ways that Jesus comes into our lives. How
does Jesus come at life’s end? How can we wisely be ready
when he comes?
3.) According to this story, can wisdom be borrowed? Name
some wise people or wisdom figures in our lives who can
help us to discover sensible ways of acting. Why would an
oil lamp burning be a symbol of wisdom and remind you of
this gospel?
EVANGELIO: Mateo 25:1-13
¿Por qué necesitamos el don de la sabiduría? ¿Por qué
necesitamos estar preparados para la venida de Jesús? La
parábola de hoy nos ofrece algunas respuestas. Cinco novias
necias, cuyas lámparas no tenían suficiente aceite, iban a
encontrarse con el novio (el novio en esta historia representa
a Cristo). A media noche, cuando el novio llega, el aceite de
las lámparas de las novias necias se había agotado y corren
en dirección opuesta a comprar más. Pero al regresar, la
puerta donde se celebraba la boda estaba cerrada y el novio
les dijo "yo no las conozco."
1.) La parábola es una historia que nos cuenta una lección.
¿Cuál es la lección de la historia sobre las novias prudentes y
las novias necias?
2.) Nombra algunas formas en que Jesús viene a nuestras
vidas. ¿Cómo Jesús viene al final de la vida? ¿Cómo podemos
estar sabiamente preparados para su venida?
3.) De acuerdo a la historia, ¿puede pedirse prestada la sabiduría? Nombra algunas personas o figuras sabias en nuestras
vidas quienes nos pueden ayudar a descubrir formas sensibles de actuar. ¿Cómo una lámpara encendida puede ser un
símbolo de sabiduría? ¿Cómo te lo recuerda este evangelio?

Thursday, December 8th is the Solemnity
of the Immaculate Conception of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a Holy Day
of Obligation. Masses will be at 6:30am,
