Today's reading might seem to be a real "downer."
Just as we are beginning the new liturgical year, we hear
Jesus' reminders to "be vigilant" and "pray." Advent is a
time of preparation for Jesus' final coming. Jesus, the just
one, who will judge us in the final days of human history,
wants us to be able to stand up like true Christians when
that time comes.

There will be Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament on Friday, December 4th from
8:30am-5:00pm. This will take place in the
Altar Servers’ sacristy to the right of the
altar.
Jubilee Choir Christmas Concert:
Epiphany’s Jubilee Choir is having a
Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec. 4th, at
7:30pm featuring the Jubilee Choir of
Epiphany, Epiphany Youth Choir; and
guest, St. Thomas More’s 8pm Choir.

Tuesday, December 8th is the
Solemnity of the Immaculate
Conception of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. This is a Holy
Day of Obligation. Masses
will be at 6:30am, 8:00am, 11:00am
(School Mass), 5:30pm and 7:30pm
(Spanish). The Grupo Hispano will also
celebrate this day ( La Purisima) on Sunday, Dec. 6th at the 11:30am Mass. Fellowship will follow in the cafeteria.

Una Espera Activa:
A medida que se abre este nuevo año litúrgico, las lecturas de hoy resultan muy
apropiadas ya que nos fundamentan en lo
que significa vivir como auténticos cristianos. El Evangelio, con sus atemorizantes
predicciones sobre el fin de los tiempos,
invita a los oyentes a que “velen… y
hagan oración continuamente” (Lucas
21:36). Este tipo de vigilancia no es algo
pasivo para los cristianos. Más bien, es
una espera activa. ¿Qué debemos hacer
mientras esperamos la venida del Señor?
La segunda lectura nos ofrece la respuesta:
“rebosar de un amor mutuo” (1 Tesalonicenses 3:12). Hoy se habla de promesas
hechas y cumplidas. Que en este tiempo de
Adviento quedemos firmemente enraizados en una postura de activo esperar por el
Señor, quien trae justicia y paz.
