Edwardsville High School Athletics
A Tradition of Excellence
Edwardsville High School has a long tradition of athletic excellence. In fact, EHS has appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch top
five athletic programs in seven of the last nine years, winning the top prize three times, and is recognized as one of the premier
schools in the state of Illinois.
This success is the result of hard work and high expectations – part of business as usual for EHS. The school is fortunate to have
talented and dedicated athletes and coaches, administrative, parental and community support, summer improvement programs,
and camaraderie among coaches.
During the 2008-2009 school year, Edwardsville High School brought home trophies in four IHSA sports: Boys Golf - 3rd place,
Boys Soccer - 2nd place, Team Wrestling - 4th place, and Girls Softball - 2nd place. In 2009-10, Boys Soccer finished in 4th place,
Cheerleading finished in 9th place, and Girls Track finished in 4th place. During the Fall 2010 season, Boys Soccer and Girls
Volleyball each took home third place trophies, and in 2011, Boys Volleyball became the first team from downstate to qualify for
the IHSA state tournament. During the past decade, Edwardsville High School has earned 18 IHSA trophies in 9 different sports.

Welcome to
Edwardsville High School
Home of the EHS Tigers
In District 7, our primary concern is improving student achievement and preparing students for life beyond
high school. It is our belief that participation in athletics plays an important role in the development of
well-rounded young people. We have no doubt that the lessons learned both on and off the field of play will
serve our student athletes well in whatever direction they take in life.
We encourage and expect our student athletes to reflect the values of the community in which we live.
Sportsmanship on and off the field is a core value of the District 7 community. It is critical that our student
athletes understand that participating in extracurricular athletics is not just about winning and losing, it is
also about learning to compete with integrity and with respect for one’s opponent.
We have that same expectation of sportsmanship for our fans. We are fortunate in District 7 to have spirited
and loyal fans, and we thank all of them for their continued support. We know that in the heat of action that
it’s easy for emotions to run high, but we encourage and expect our fans to demonstrate respect for our
opponents, their fans, and the officials.
On behalf of District 7 students and staff, we want to thank the Board of Education for its continuing
commitment to excellence - and, above all, we want to thank the communities that make up District 7 for
their commitment to the Edwardsville Tiger tradition.

Head Coach Lori Blade
Coach Lori Blade has compiled a 239-35 record with seven Elite Eight appearances in her
nine years as coach of the Lady Tigers. She has compiled a 472-76 record overall in her 17 years of
coaching basketball.
The Lady Tigers will have a fresh look this season. The lineup for the Tigers will include
two returning seniors and a heavy dose of juniors. The seniors, Erin Bell and Leigh Kesper,
figure to see plenty of playing time, with Kesper coming off an injury from last season. Juniors
competing for time will include Emmonnie Henderson, Lauren White, Rachel Wiesehan, Sydney
Bloch, Sarah Parker, Ashia Jones, and Quianna Hampton. Younger talented prospects competing
for varsity time include 3-point shooter Kourtney Dunbar and versatile guard/post player Aaliyah
Covington.
The Lady Tigers hope to build upon their recent years’ successes and battle for a SWC
Championship and the opportunity to reach the State semifinals.

Head Coach Mike Waldo
Coach Mike Waldo is beginning his 24th year as head coach of the Tigers and
30th overall. He has compiled a career record of 547 wins against 223 losses. He holds
the school record for wins as the boys head basketball coach. His teams have won 16
regional titles and three sectional championships, and they have qualified for the state
tournament on three occasions.
Coach Waldo is looking forward to the 2011-12 season. He expects to have a
competitive team even though they are playing a tough schedule. This year’s team,
which boasts six seniors, is made up of a good group of student-athletes who want to
excel on the court and in the classroom. The players and coaches are very appreciative
of the support of parents, the student body, and the community.

Coach Craig Ohlau
Fourth-year coach Craig Ohlau, a 2005 graduate of Southern Illinois University at
Edwardsville, earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and general science. He has six
years’ coaching experience in baseball, basketball, and bowling. This year’s boys team looks
to improve on its fifth place finish in the sectional. Seniors Shawn Kerr and Steven Hillmer,
along with sophomore Ben Paolucci, look to anchor an inexperienced team and compete
for a spot in the State Championships. The Tigers also look to newcomers Logan Sahuri
and Michael Laws to play pivotal roles for the team this season. The Tigers graduated five
seniors from last year’s squad.
On the girls’ side, only two seniors graduated. Three varsity starters, seniors Kallie
Schipkowski and Sammi Hayes and sophomore Meagan Mayo, will be returning from last
year’s squad, and they will be vital to the team’s success this season. Junior Laura Linck and sophomore Mary
Garner also look to build on their experience from last year and contribute to the success of the Lady Tigers this
season. The girls are looking to improve on their Southwestern Conference finish of a year ago and also have
expectations of making a run at the State Tournament. 2011 Varsity/JV Boys/Girls Bowling
