[email protected], (315)760-6708 Animal Care Team: Sabrina, Brandy, Mason, Dorian, Jackie, Angela Mission Statement: WRHA is an open admission shelter dedicated to providing the highest quality care and compassion for the animals entrusted to us while leading our community in creating a more humane society. 129 Pets go Home for the Holidays Community Cat Room During the months of September and October 2015, 129 animals went home and will be having a wonderful Holiday Season! There were 98 adoptions, 27 animals found their owners, and 4 dogs were transferred to rescue. Awesome work by the staff, especially the front desk receptionists, adoption coordinator, and shelter manager. Great job! Thank you to all of our adopters who found it in their hearts to adopt a shelter pet, and thank you to all who share the pets on our FaceBook page! New Staff Member Joins WRHA Our Community Cat Room is a delightful place to come and visit for adopters and volunteers alike! To help keep our Community Room (and other feline) residents enriched and healthy we are seeking the following donations: High power air purifier with ionizer Wind Chimes and Mobiles Cat toys of all kinds Cat tree with compartments Scratching posts Small Flat Screen TV w/ DVD Player DVD’s of fish/birds/rodents MP3 System Help Keep our Pets Healthy! WRHA is looking for high quality air purifiers for all the animal rooms in the shelter. Presently we have two of these operating and we have seen a difference already in the air quality! We are looking for the model type pictured here or even better. A HEPA type purifier that kills air borne viruses, bacteria and air borne pathogens is ideal. This model comes from WalMart but there are others available on Amazon and other on-line sources. This past August (2015), a new staff member joined the team at Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association. She is from Oneida, County NY and comes with over 20 years of animal welfare experience. Joanne Cronan-Hamoy worked at Stevens-Swan Humane Society for ten years as Program Coordinator, followed by another thirteen plus years at Spring Farm CARES in Clinton where she was Humane Education and Rabbit Adoption Coordinator. She has been brought on board to develop in-shelter programs and events, officially titled as “WRHA Programs & Events Coordinator”. Joanne will be working on many projects such as the volunteer program, humane education, special events development and a major capital campaign to build a new facility in 2016. Joanne is very excited to land here at the shores of Wanderers’ Rest. She says, “I love the staff and ambiance at WRHA – the only animal shelter in Madison County. The people are warm, friendly, and most of all supportive. Of course the animals are what is the most important so their needs are crucial. I want to strengthen and work on new ideas for adoption outreach, community programs for the animals, and move WRHA into a new innovative and progressive direction for the future. With the support of the Executive Director, staff, and Board, I am most confident we will achieve our goals.” Thank you Volunteers! From the Director's Desk As the end of the year comes to a close, I spend time reflecting on what we could have done differently and what we need to improve on going forward. As Executive Director I must assess the organization's current situation, review its strategy, and make recommendations to maximize effectiveness. I am confident that in 2016 WRHA will continue to grow in exciting new directions. The bar has been raised and WRHA staff, and volunteers have exceeded beyond expectations. I am confident that we will continue our path towards greatness. Humane Education builds stronger communities! Our volunteers are awesome and we want to thank each one of you. Many would like to remain anonymous, but we appreciate everything you do and say on behalf of the animals at Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association. They, most of all appreciate your time, love, dedication, and support. Orientations are held on a Saturday of each month. Because December is always a busy time, we will hold the next orientation in January 2016. Watch our 2016 schedule for the date. Our last orientation saw about 30 people and many students from Colgate have joined the ranks. We look forward to working with all of you. A special thank you for the day goes to 12 year old Helena Bonaventura! She had a booth where she did henna tattoos and sold animal themed Christmas ornaments, ALL of her proceeds are donated to WRHA! Her compassion and dedication to the animals of WRHA is an inspiration to all. Two years ago this young lady sold original artwork to raise money for the shelter as well. Upcoming Events October 29-December 23, 2015: Annual Holiday Sale November 7, 2015: Petco Adoption Event December 5, 2015: Petco Adoption Event 2015 Canine Classic Annual Dog Walk and Festival WRHA held their 2015 Canine Classic September 27th at the beautiful Jim Marshall Farms Foundation, Inc. We were blessed with perfect weather and an energetic crowd. There were business and craft vendors in attendance, raffle baskets, awesome food provided by Ladybug Lunchbox, and music/DJ services were provided by Dino Radio (93.5 FM) and DJ Nick Caplan. We would like to thank all who participated: volunteers, donors, business sponsors, vendors, attendees and Jim Marshall Farms for hosting once again. We raised $5,700 to help our animals. Be looking forward to next year’s event and some fun changes. The evening of October 20th was rainy and damp, but inside Villa Verona Winery, spirits were bright! Our first Paint and Sip event was held from 6 PM – 8 PM and participants had a great evening of fun, relaxation and creativity. There were sixteen people in attendance and each one did an amazing job. We would like to thank Margaret Fetzko for organizing this event as well as the people from Villa Verona Winery for being wonderful hosts.This unique fundraiser was so much fun and we look forward to doing another one in the near future! Don't Forget us this Holiday Season! Pet Food Pantry WRHA offers pet food for the public at no cost. Please visit during normal shelter hours and we can help you. Our food pantry offers cat and kitten dry food and both canned and dry dog food. Treats and some supplements are also available from time to time. The food pantry is stocked by our donations of dog and cat food. Helping those in need, offers them a solution other than surrendering their pet when times are hard. We also work with the Karing Kitchen Soup Kitchen in Oneida to place of dog and cat food in their holiday baskets. Thank you to all of our donors for helping us to be able to do this very important work. Adopt Me! Grace is a beautiful 1 1/2 yr old tan and white pit/ boxer mix who was surrendered due to her owner moving. She is able to to follow a few commands such as sit, stay,and wait.She is very playful, eager to learn, and loves plenty of attention. Grace would love an active family who is willing to keep her occupied, take her for walks and just spend quality time with her. Adopt Me! Ivy is quiet, and reserved, but once she gets to know you, she is a talker and a lover. She was surrendered for adoption due to her owner's declining health and misses the comforts of home! Ivy is located at our offsite location in Pet Supplies Plus on Erie Blvd, stop in to meet her. The holidays are fast approaching and it is an important time for us. We have a small contract with Madison County, but it doesn’t cover even ¼ of our budget. We depend on the generosity of our friends to keep us going. Your donations of dry dog and cat food allow us to offer a pet food pantry to those in need, donations of office supplies free up more money for our animals, our needs are never ending, treats, clay litter, toys, laundry soap, bleach…all of these cost money and the costs just keep rising. Monetary donations help us pay the never ending bills that we seem to face. We would like to thank you all for your generosity and support. If you can find it in your heart, remember the residents at WRHA, and that some of them will be spending their Christmas there. Every little bit helps. We use this type of vehicle to get animals to off-site adoption events and to medical appointments. Our present van has seen better days and it's time for a new one. This is the perfect time of the year for any dealers out there who may be seeing this news story to consider donating to the shelter. WRHA is looking for a new Van! We are a 501c3 tax-exempt organization and your gift is tax deductible.
