Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Church is Missionary
Every month the Pope gives two intentions for the Church to
pray for: a general intention and a missionary intention. The
general intention of the Holy Father for this month is for all the
terminally ill, that they may be sustained in their sufferings by
faith in God and the love of others. His missionary intention for
this month is that the celebration of World Mission Sunday may
increase in the People of God the passion for evangelization and
the support of missionary activity through prayer and economic
aid for the poorest Churches (Dioceses).
Today is World Mission Sunday. The Church was founded by
Jesus with a specific mission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that
I have commanded you.” This is the final command of the Risen
Jesus to his apostles in the Gospel of Matthew. Such an
enormous, worldwide, catholic mission! How could these eleven
simple men (Matthias had not yet been chosen to replace Judas
Iscariot) accomplish such an immense task, so far beyond the
capacity of even the most talented human beings? Our Lord gave
his final promise, “And behold, I am with you always, until the
end of the age” (Mt 28,19-20). As the Angel Gabriel had
announced to Mary, “Nothing will be impossible for God” (Lk
1,37).
Throughout the ages, from the 12 Apostles onward, the Church
has carried forth her mission, producing in every century
luminous bands of missionaries and martyrs. These have
witnessed to Christ and his Gospel to the four corners of the
earth. They have made disciples of the nations and baptized
them in the Name of our Triune God. Today over a billion
people on earth call themselves “Catholics,” and nearly two
billion, “Christians” (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants,
Evangelicals...).
One glorious page in the Christianization of the world was
written in the first half of the 17th century, when the Society of
Jesus sent missionaries from France to the new world of North
America. Fr. Jean de Brebeuf arrived in that great wilderness in
1625, full of zeal to convert the native peoples to Christ and his
Church. He was assigned to the Huron and Iroquois tribes. In the
first few years there were no fruits of his labors, but then the
Hurons began to believe in the Gospel and be baptized. In his 24
years in the New World, with the help of his fellow Jesuit
missionaries, he saw over 7000 come to the faith.
The Iroquois were more resistant to the new religion; seven of
the eight martyrs were killed by the Iroquois, between 1642 and
1649, in what is today western New York, Quebec and Ontario.
The final martyr was killed by a Huron who was baptized but
then had apostatized from the faith. The love of these
missionaries for the indigenous peoples and their zeal for their
souls were greater than the barbaric cruelty of the tortures they
suffered and willingly embraced. The proof of the saying of the
second-century Tertullian was borne out: “The blood of martyrs
is the seed of the Church.” From their glory in heaven these
missionary martyrs, Sts. John de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues, Noel
Charbanel, Antony Daniel, Charles Garnier, Gabriel Lalemant,
René Goupil and John de Lalande had the joy of seeing the
eventual Christianization of nearly all the Huron and Iroquois
tribes whom they had encountered. Blessed Kateri Takawitha,
“the Lily of the Mohawks,” would be their most splendid fruit.

Memorial Mass
The month of November has always been a special time for prayer in
honor of our loved ones who have died. As usual, here in the parish,
we will be celebrating a Memorial Mass. This Mass gives families who
have lost loved ones, an opportunity to express their sorrow before
the Lord, and receive the support of our parish community. This Memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 6:30
p.m. If you have lost a loved one in the years of 2010 and 2011, and
want him/her remembered by name, there will be forms available by
the entrances of the church for you to fill out, or you may request a
form in the parish office. The completed form must be legible and
turned in to the parish office by Thursday, October 27. We invite all
members of the parish to come and join us in prayer and support at
the Mass for our deceased. *If you have already submitted the names
of your loved ones before, please don’t submit them again. Their
names are already in the parish “Book of Life”. You are welcome to
look at it, at the end of the Memorial Mass.

3. Particular adaptations to the U.S. are included. The new Englishlanguage Missal also includes Vatican-approved adaptations requested by the Bishops of the United States as well as texts for observances that are proper to the United States (such as the prayers for
the Memorial of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and prayers for Independence Day and Thanksgiving Day).
4. “And with your spirit.” The translation of several phrases in the
Order of Mass had been previously decided by the Vatican in the
instruction Liturgiam authenticam. Among these are “certain expressions that belong to the heritage of the whole or of a great part of the
ancient Church, as well as others that have become part of the general human patrimony…” Such is the case of the response “Et cum spiritu tuo.” What had originally been translated in 1973 as “And also
with you” becomes now “And with your spirit.” This places the English translation in line with the way this has always been translated in
most other languages, including Spanish, French, German, and Italian
5. Changes in the people’s parts. In addition to the response to the
greeting “The Lord be with you”, people are going to find a number of
other changes in the translation of common prayers throughout. This
includes the various parts of the Penitential act (“I confess to Almighty God…”), the Gloria, the Creed (both in the Nicene Creed and
the Apostles’ Creed), the Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy), the Mystery of
Faith, and the invitation to communion. (Samples of comparative

Day of Reflection on the Revised Roman Missal
A day of reflection on the revised Roman Missal, 3rd Edition will
be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the old church. The
event will start at 9:00 am with a Holy Hour to end at around
12:45 pm. All teachers in the Religious Education Program including RCIA, choir members, lectors, extra-ordinary ministers of
Holy Communion, ushers and volunteers in various apostolic

Trigésimo Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario
La Iglesia es Misionera
Cada mes, el Papa ofrece dos intenciones para rezar por la
Iglesia: una intención general y una intención misionera. La
intención general del Santo Padre para este mes es para todos
los enfermos en fase terminal, que puedan ser sostenidos en sus
sufrimientos por la fe en Dios y el amor de los demás. Su
intención misionera de este mes es que la celebración de la
Jornada Misionera Mundial pueda aumentar en el Pueblo de
Dios la pasión por la evangelización y el apoyo a la actividad
misionera con la oración y la ayuda económica para las iglesias
(diócesis) más pobres.
Hoy es la Jornada Misionera Mundial. La Iglesia fue fundada
por Jesús con una misión especifica: “Vayan y hagan discípulos
de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y
del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y ensenándoles a guardar todo lo
que yo os he mandado.” Este es el mandato final de Jesús
resucitado a sus apóstoles en el Evangelio de Mateo. La misión
de todo el mundo Católico es enorme. ¿Cómo podrían estos
once hombre sencillos (Matías aun no había sido elegido para
reemplazar a Judas Iscariote) cumplir con una tarea tan inmensa,
tan lejos de la capacidad incluso de los seres humanos más
talentosos? Nuestro Señor ha dado su promesa final: “Y he aquí
que yo estoy con vosotros todos los días hasta el fin del
mundo” (Mt 28, 19-20). Como el Ángel Gabriel le anuncio a
María, “Nada es imposible para Dios” (Lucas 1:37)
A lo largo de los siglos, a partir de los 12 apóstoles, la Iglesia ha
llevado a cabo su misión, produciendo en cada siglo bandas
luminosas de misioneros y mártires. Estos han sido testigos de
Cristo y su Evangelio en todos los rincones de la tierra. Ellos
han hecho discípulos de las naciones y bautizado en el Nombre
de nuestro Dios Triuno. Hoy, más de mil millones de personas
en la tierra se llaman “católicos”, y casi dos millones,
“cristianos” (católicos, ortodoxos, protestantes, evangélicos…)
Una página gloriosa en la cristianización del mundo fue escrita
en la primera mitad del siglo 17, cuando la Compañía de Jesús
envió misioneros de Francia al nuevo mundo de Norte América.
El Padre Jean de Brebeuf llego a ese gran desierto en el año
1625, lleno de celo para convertir a los nativos a Cristo y a su
Iglesia. El fue asignado a las tribus Huron y los Iroqueses. En
los primeros años no hubo frutos de su trabajo, pero los Hurones
empezaron a creer en el Evangelio y ser bautizados. En sus 24
años en el Nuevo Mundo, con la ayuda de sus compañeros
misioneros Jesuitas, vio más de 7000 convertirse a la fe.
Los Iroqueses fueron más resistentes a la nueva religión, siete
de los ocho mártires fueron asesinados por los Iroqueses, entre
1642 y 1649, en lo que hoy es el oeste de Nueva York, Quebec
y Ontario. El último mártir fue asesinado por un Hurón, que fue
bautizado, pero luego había apostatizado de la fe. El amor de
estos misioneros a los pueblos indígenas y su celo por las almas
eran superiores a la crueldad barbará de las torturas que
sufrieron. La prueba de lo dicho por el Tertuliano del segundo
siglo se hizo realidad: “La sangre de los mártires es la semilla

Cristiana para Adultos o RICA) y que quieran más información sobre
la Iglesia. La clase se reúne los Lunes a las 7:30 p.m.
Vuela Mas Alto
Enseguida después de la 2a Guerra Mundial, un joven piloto
inglés probaba un frágil avión monomotor en una peligrosa
aventura alrededor del mundo. Poco después de despegar de
uno de los pequeños e improvisados aeródromos de la India,
oyó un ruido extraño que venía de atrás de su asiento y se dió
cuenta que había una rata a bordo y que si roía la cobertura de
lona, podía destruir su frágil avión.
Podía volver al aeropuerto para librarse de su incómodo, peligroso e inesperado pasajero. De repente recordó que las ratas
no resisten las grandes alturas.
Volando cada vez más alto, poco a poco cesaron los ruidos que
ponían en peligro su viaje.
Puede que hayan situaciones u obstáculos que estén poniendo
en peligro tu vida espiritual, NO permitas que esto te derribe,
VUELA MÁS ALTO..!!
Elévate a la presencia de Dios, Él te hará levantar vuelo y te
hará volar siempre alto, muy alto, y desde arriba podrás ver tus
problemas como insignificancias y en Su presencia perecerán...!

El Paraguas
En un pueblito de zona rural en los años 50, se produjo una larga
sequía que amenazaba con dejar en la ruina a todos sus habitantes, debido a que subsistían con el fruto del trabajo del campo. A
pesar de que la mayoría de sus habitantes eran creyentes, ante la
situación límite, marcharon a ver al Ministro religioso local y le
dijeron:
- "Si Dios es tan poderoso, pidámosle que envíe la lluvia necesaria
para revertir esta angustiante situación."
- "Está bien, le pediremos al Señor, pero deberá haber una condición indispensable."
- "¡Díganos cuál es!", respondieron todos.
- "Hay que pedírselo con fe, con mucha fe, contestó el Lider."
- "¡Así lo haremos, y también vendremos a la iglesia todos los
días!"
Los campesinos comenzaron a ir a la iglesia todos los días, pero
las semanas transcurrían y la esperada lluvia no se hacía presente.
Un día, fueron todos a enfrentar al párroco y reclamarle:
- "Usted nos dijo que si le pedíamos con fe a Dios que enviara las
lluvias, Él iba a acceder a nuestras peticiones. Pero ya van varias
semanas y no obtenemos respuesta alguna."
- "¿Han ustedes pedido con fe verdadera?", les preguntó el párroco.
- "¡Sí, por supuesto!", respondieron al unísono.
- "Entonces, si dicen haber pedido con Fe Verdadera... ¿porqué
durante todos estos días ni uno solo de ustedes ha traído el paraguas?"
Hebreos 11:1 "Ahora bien, la fe es la certeza de lo que se espera,
la convicción de lo que no se ve." Mateo 21:22 "Y todo lo que
pidiereis en oración, creyendo, lo recibiréis."
Month of the Holy Rosary
The month of October (Overview - Calendar) is dedicated
to the Holy Rosary.
According to an account by fifteenthcentury Dominican,
Alan de la Roch,
Mary appeared to
St. Dominic in 1206
after he had been
praying and doing
severe penances because of his lack of
success in combating
the
Albigensian
heresy. Mary praised
him for his valiant
fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a
mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him
to preach it to others.
"Since the prayers of the Rosary come from such excellent
sources — from Our Lord Himself, from inspired Scripture,
and from the Church — it is not surprising that the Rosary
is so dear to our Blessed Mother and so powerful with heaven.
"If we consider the power of the Rosary as seen in its effects,
we find a great abundance of proofs of its wonderful value.
Many are the favors granted to private individuals through
its devout recitation: there are few devoted users of the Rosary who cannot testify to experiencing its power in their
own lives. If we turn to history, we see many great triumphs
of the Rosary. Early tradition attributes the defeat of the
Albigensians at the Battle of Muret in 1213 to the Rosary.
But even those who do not accept this tradition will admit
that St. Pius V attributed the great defeat of the Turkish
fleet on the first Sunday of October, 1571, to the fact that at

day. Two years later, Gregory XIII allowed the celebration
of a feast of the Rosary in churches having an altar dedicated to the Rosary. In 1671, Clement X extended the feast to
all Spain. A second great victory over the Turks, who once,
like the Russians, threatened the ruin of Christian civilization, occurred on August 5, 1716, when Prince Eugene defeated them at Peterwardein in Hungary. Thereupon Clement XI extended the feast of the Rosary to the whole
Church.

Cuenta una historia que hace muchos años un Judío trabajaba en una planta empacadora de carne en Noruega. Un
día terminando su horario de trabajo, fue a uno de los refrigeradores para inspeccionar algo; se cerró la puerta con el
seguro y se quedó atrapado dentro del refrigerador.
Golpeó fuertemente la puerta y empezó a gritar una y otra
vez, pero nadie lo escuchaba. La mayoría de los trabajadores se había ido a sus casas, y era casi imposible escucharlo
por el grosor que tenía esa puerta.
Llevaba cuatro horas en el refrigerador y se sentía ya al borde de la muerte, sin esperanzas de salvación.
De repente y para su inmensa alegría, se abrió la puerta. El
guardia de seguridad entró y lo rescató.
Después de esto, le preguntaron al guardia a qué se debía el
que se le ocurrió abrir ésa puerta sino era parte de su rutina
de trabajo ??.
Él explicó: llevo trabajando en ésta empresa casi 25 años;
cientos de trabajadores entran a la planta cada día, pero él
es el único que me saluda en la mañana y se despide de mi
en las tardes. El resto de los trabajadores me tratan como si
yo fuera invisible.
Hoy ,como cada día, me dijo " hola " a la entrada, pero
nunca escuché - "hasta mañana" . Yo espero por ese hola,
buenos días, y ése chao o hasta mañana - cada jornada. Sabiendo que todavía no se había despedido de mi, pensé que
debía estar en algún lugar del edificio y que algo debió pasarle, por lo que lo busqué y gracias a Dios lo encontré ".
