TROJAN TRACKS THE NEWSLETTER OF SACRED HEART SCHOOL VOLUME 22, ISSUE 1 “HOME TO THE SACRED HEART TROJANS” WINTER 2016 2015 SHS FOUNDATION DISBURSEMENT For the tenth straight year, the Sacred Heart School Foundation was able to give Sacred Heart School a generous disbursement. In August, Mrs. Dawn Shipp, Principal, High School Department, Mrs. Virginia Morein, Principal, Elementary Department and Father Tom Voorhies, Pastor, were delighted to accept this year’s gift. The disbursement in the amount $28,674 represents the earnings on total assets for the 2014 calendar year as well as half the proceeds from the 2014 benefit banquet and auction. SHS Foundation disbursement funds are to subsidize projects that enhance, supplement, or surpass the basic curriculum of Sacred Heart School. This year, the gift will fully fund an Elementary Library Wireless Student Computer Center. The gift will also subsidize a Wireless Student Computer Center in the High School. Sacred Heart School was able to purchase 92 Chromebooks, Chromebook OS Management Licenses, 3 Mobile Charging Carts and 3 Color Laser Printers. Students will use the Chromebooks for research and testing purposes. This generous donation will continue to enhance our school’s curriculum through the utilization and implementation of technology. Sacred Heart School is very grateful for the generous disbursement and truly appreciates the generosity of everyone’s donations and contributions to the Sacred Heart School Foundation. Pictured (L-R): Mrs. Virginia Morein, Principal, Elementary Department, Mrs. Dawn Shipp, Principal, High School Department, Father Tom Voorhies, Sacred Heart Pastor, Mr. Terryl Fontenot, Foundation President, Dr. Armand Coreil, Foundation Vice President and Mr. Mark Buller, Foundation Treasurer SHS FOUNDATION “WINTER WONDERLAND” DANCE, BUFFET AND AUCTION The 2016 event was a huge success! On behalf of Sacred Heart School Foundation, Sacred Heart School, and the Development Office, we would like to thank each and everyone of you that attended and purchased a ticket. Your loyal support to Sacred Heart School and this event is deeply appreciated. A special thank you to our donors, sponsors and the many, many volunteers and students that made it possible. Also, we would like to thank our wonderful student servers who were so helpful and gracious and to the Class of 1979 for spending the evening with us in support of Sacred Heart. We greatly appreciate all of you! Because of these wonderful supporters, the SHS Foundation raised $26,000! This year’s event theme was “W inter W onderland”. Guests were able to enjoy dancing the night away to the live band, The Neighborhood Stars. The Sacred Heart School Foundation plays a major role in the procurement of funds to ensure the continued financial stability of Sacred Heart School. It is designed as a safety net for the school. It is estimated that parochial schools without such endowments are in danger of closing their doors during tough economic times. The proceeds from the SHS Foundation endowment fund are exclusively for Sacred Heart See page 6 2 TROJAN TRACKS Alumni Spotlight MARCY BOUDREAUX-JOHNSON (‘92) Pastor Father Tom Voorhies Principal, High School Department Mrs. Dawn Cox Shipp Principal, Elementary School Department Mrs. Virginia Morein Development Director Mrs. Kimberly C. Vidrine TROJAN DAY SATURDAY, AUGUST 20, 2016 SACRED HEART HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDS We are in need of your help to bring back our Trojan Fair! The Sacred Heart Fair was started in 1971. With the generous support of the community, parents and grandparents, this fair was an annual event until 1989. The Trojan Fair had devoted leaders that organized the event, but the families of Sacred Heart are what made the fair successful and kept it going for 18 years. Trojan Family Day will be on Saturday, August 20, 2016, and will resemble some of our past Trojan Fairs, minus a few things that are simply too costly for our first year. We hope that monies made at our Trojan Family Day will help fund a ‘full blown’ 2017 TROJAN FAIR with carnival rides and all! There will be various games and prizes for all ages. Some of the activities include a dunking booth, inflatable slide, face painting, bingo, class competition for grades 7-12, a photo booth and a sweet shop. The National Guard has also agreed to donate an inflatable obstacle course. A 1 mile fun run for children and adults will kick off the day. There will be plenty of food including hot dogs, chili pies, jambalaya and other treats, ranging from cotton candy, snowballs to popcorn. If anyone is interested in helping out in any way, including joining planning committees, donating prizes for bingo, sponsoring a booth, donating sweets for the sweet shop, or just helping out that day, please contact Ashley LaFleur at [email protected]. Please help us to make Trojan Family Day a success in order to bring back the Trojan Fair. How wonderful would it be for our children to experience the Trojan Fair? Any donation will be greatly appreciated. 15 SPRING COTILLION 2016 “Roaring Twenties” Top Picture: King Peyton Soileau and Queen Kara Aguillard Bottom Picture: Class of 2016 at the Tea SACRED HEART DEVELOPMENT OFFICE NEEDS YOUR HELP: The Development Office has been asked to offer a choice of a hard copy or digital copy of Trojan Tracks.
