Pastor’s Point:
“Living in Two Worlds!”
Living the Christian life can be described as having to live in two worlds. One is secular
and one is spiritual. Such living requires special insight, understanding, maturity, and
Godly wisdom. Thankfully our Lord and God provides everything needed including the
indwelling Holy Spirit of God, the authoritative written word of God, a physical and
spiritual family for the fellowship of worship and encouragement, and the call to serve
our Heavenly King, the Prince of Peace in His earthly Kingdom on earth.
Believe it or not there is an excellent example for this kind of living found in a
biological reality from the world of marine life. There is a fish, native to the equatorial
waters of the western Atlantic region called “Anableps.” The word ‘anableps’ means
those that look upwards, and this fish has a set of four eyes. They have two-tiered
eyes, with the upper and lower halves of each eyeball operating independently and
having separate cornea and irises. The upper eyes protrude above the surface of the
water and enable the anableps to search for food and to spot enemies in the air. The
lower eyes remain focused in the water, functioning in the usual fishlike fashion. So, at
the same time, they can live in both worlds – the world below and the world above.
The love, grace, mercy and love of our Lord God equips the believer for living in both
worlds with the greatest sense of satisfaction, joy, peace, and hope. But for those who
might find this way of living something of a challenge there is a solution. The solution
is found in an active faith nurtured in worship and Bible studies, and attaching oneself
to a church home.
One of the joys of being a member of MOPC is the desire and practice of our Christian
faith offering the best kind of atmosphere in which to grow in strength and wisdom for
living in two worlds. Come and give it a fair chance to make a positive difference in
your life.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Jerry
