Hello NFL Alumni Detroit Chapter Supporters and Golfers!
We invite you to enjoy a great day of golf, meet some of your NFL Alumni favorites from around the
league, enjoy a delicious dinner, and compete for a trip to the NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf. There are
a number of ways you can participate: secure a foursome, become a sponsor, or supply auction items.
The outing is a great way to showcase and market your business to alumni, fans, and other influencers.
This year we will partner with Henry Ford Health System’s “Game on Cancer” campaign to raise funds
and awareness for those suffering from this disease in Metropolitan Detroit. Additionally, we will honor
Super Bowl Champion Tom Nowatzke for his years of support and service to the NFL Alumni and former
players.
This event is a qualifier for the 2016 Super NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf. The winning
team receives and all-expense paid trip to Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs in Phoenix, AZ
to compete in one of the most noteworthy golf competitions in America - Play for the Ring!
Please complete the attached form and mark your calendars for Monday, July 20, 2015. The NFL
Alumni Detroit Chapter Golf Classic is a chance to have a great time while helping the fight against
cancer in Detroit and its surrounding communities.
Thank you for helping to make this outing a success!

Tom Nowatzke
The NFL Alumni Detroit Chapter is proud of honor Tom Nowatzke at the 2015 celebrity golf outing.
Coming out of Indiana University in 1965, Tom had already been selected All-Big Ten twice, he was
named as a first team All-American, he led the Big-10 in rushing in 1963 (a first for Indiana), was voted
MVP by his teammates, set a field goal record, led his team in playing minutes averaging over 51 minutes
per game, and played in the East-West Shrine Game, the Senior Bowl and the All-American Game. It
was no wonder Tom was the number one draft choice in 1965 for both the Detroit Lions, and the New
York Jets.
Tom signed as a running back with the Detroit Lions, and in 1967 he led the team in rushing and scoring.
In 1969 he switched to linebacker and was traded to The Baltimore Colts. While in Baltimore, Tom
played running back, tight end and linebacker. In 1970 he scored the tying touchdown in Super Bowl
V, and the following season he was voted the Unsung Hero Award.
While Tom played his heart out on the field, he dedicated himself to the alumni off the field. He has
served as president of the Detroit Chapter for 15 years, he continues to serve on the board of the national
NFL Alumni, and the board of Gridiron Greats. If the NFL Alumni has a helping hand, it is most likely
connected to Tom Nowatzke’s arm.
Tom has been inducted into the Indiana University Hall of Fame, the State of Indiana Hall of Fame, the
Gridiron Greats Hall of Fame, and the National Polish American Sports Hall of Fame. Tom also serves
on the board of the St. Louis Center, in Chelsea, Michigan.
Game On Cancer
Game On Cancer is an unprecedented initiative to significantly raise awareness and funds for the
Josephenie Ford Cancer Institute (JFCI), Henry Ford Health System. Funds raised through Game On
Cancer are fulfilling immediate and urgent patient needs – such as transportation, food, shelter and more
for struggling patients. With more than 14,000 cancer patients treated each year, JCFI at Henry Ford
is one of the largest cancer institutes in the country. Game On Cancer is providing necessary research
dollars to further the advancement of cancer prevention and treatment of the most complex cancers. The
combination of experience, technology, and compassion is why more patients choose JFCI
than any other cancer facility in Michigan. The Detroit Lions have partnered with
Henry Ford Health System’s JFCI to find a cure for cancer and make life
a bit easier for our patients in Southeast Michigan.
